Shecky & Sol 'Inc.' boost Rose Blumkin Jewish Home campaign
Entertainer Shecky Ghreene came to Omaha last weetumd and with the help of Sol Pareow, Lorrie Bematein, Florence Brody and acores of others made it liappen: many thousands of dollars were raised for the Home and since the money is still coming in and some donors have not yet been acknowledged, a fkiU report wont be available in the Jewish Preu until Sept 29. Lee Jane and Sol Parsow, honorees for the event, welcome Shecky to the Saturday night party the Parsows hosted for patrons. More than 1,000 attended the Sunday evening performance at the Orpheum and provided Shecky and Marilyn Maye with a standing ovation. An estimated 360 patrons attended a dinner in the OPPD Atrium before the show. Mariljrn and Shecky greet Mrs. B at the Parsow party and talk about the old days in Omaha. (See editorial on page 4.)
Bible quiz scheduled Gary Epstein, president of Henry Monsky Lodge B'nai B'rith, has announced the Tenth Annual Edward Zorinsky B'nai B'rith Bible Quiz will be held Dec. 10, 2 p.niv, in the theater of the Jewish Community Center. '. The purpose of the quiz is to encourage Jewish youth to become more famiUar with their heritage, the Bible. It is also to honor the memory of the late Senator Edward Zorinsky, who had a special concern for Jewish young people. Four prizes will be awarded to those judged as winners by rabbis in the community. First prize is $500; second, $300; third, $200; and fourth, $100. The prize monies can be applied toward college tuition or a trip to Israel. The contest is open to all Jewish teenagers in the Omaha area in grades nine through 12, Mr. Epstein stated. "It is hard to believe that this is the 10th year for the contest,' suid Steve Riekes, a trustee of the Lodge. He thanked the Lodge and the family of Senator Zorinsky for their support He gave special thanks to Gloria ICaslow, Stan Mitohell, Ann KibelSchwartz and Lois Epstein for their "outstanding help and conunitment" He also thanked the dozens of teenagers who have participated during these 10 yean.
