for community sen^ice A program offering an exhibit of artafects tfaa Israel and a series of activities relating to the motion picture Sehindler't Li$t, have won top awards in the category of community service, it was announced today. The awards will be distributed at the annual meeting of the Jewish Federation of Omaha, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jewish Conununity Center theater. A reception will follow in the Qordiqan Education Center. Winning for Bethsaida, the exhibit of artifacts, are the Jewish Cultural Arts Committee and the Bureau of Jewish Education. ADL/CRC will be honored for the Schindler's List community programs. The exhibit, Bethsaida, resulted from Israel's approval for the first time to allow artifacts from a current dig to be transported out of the country for a showing in the United States. The project director. Dr. Richard Freund, was able to use his first-hand knowledge of Bethsaida to provide the Omaha community with an interactive archaeological exhibit that incorporated the history of the area wi^ the artifacts of the actual dig. The ADL/CRC effort provided thousands of area teachers and students with better knowledge and understanding of Jews, Jewish histoiy and culture, and the Holocaust. The entire Jewish community benefitted by the promotion of education, understanding and tolerance, thereby lessening bigotry and anti-Semitism, the announcement stated. Sam Fried, Alan and Carol Parsow, and Gary and Karen Javitch were among the community members who defrayed the costs of film showings, an essay contest, and other activities.
