A six week study tour of Israel with high nchool (Undents from throughout the U.S. and Canada will comprise the Isrnel Pilgrimage program for 1984. The program sponnored by the Bureau of Jewish Education and administered by the National Raman Commission includes visits to nrclicological sites and places of natural and historical significance using the Hebrew Bible tig n guidebook. Modern Israeli political and cultural institutions arc also the focus of the program. Hiking, swimming, and climbing add to on appreciation of Israel's natural phenomenon. The lour is guided by scholars and other professionals and includes a basic itinerary that ja tentatively as follows: 23 days at the Jerusalem base (including field trips to the Tel Aviv area, the Dead Ken area,), 11 days at a Galilee center (including field trips to the Haifa area, the Golan, Safed,), four days

In the summer of 1083 four Omaha young people participated in Htudy tours to Israel. Two of them, Bill Wiesman, a member of Belh El Synagogue nnd AZA, and Jay. Plotkin, a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, attended the community-sponsored Ramnh Pilgrimage. In discussions after the trip, participants stated that the program had given their UVCR an added dimension through experiences which they say they will always remember. Both Wiesman and Plotkin are now making presentation* to various young people and youth groups about their experiences. Grassley expands plan to free Soviet Jews

Senator Grnwiley told 200 friends and supporters of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith Sunday that his alliance nooks unified action among the allied nations to help oppressed Jews in the Soviet Union and other parts of the world. The Senator was tho principal speaker in a program conducted at the Red Lion Inn to honor Jule M, Newman and Irvin Yaffe with Torch of Liberty Awards and Sister Cathlecn Real, C.H.M., president of the Col lego of St. Mary, with the 1983 Democratic Legacy Award. Senator Grns.iley credited the Omaha Soviet Jewry Committee with sparking his interest in tho Soviet Jewry problem. "The Soviet Jewry Committee, headed by

Richard Katskee receives Scoiftitig's highest award

• Richard Kotakce, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton A. Katskcc, was awarded the rank of Ragle Scout at ceremonies held at Beth El Synagogue. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest rank awarded by Boy Scouts. Earlier, Richard received the Ner Tamid award. The Ner Tamid is given for demonstration of achievement in Jewish knowledge. Uichurd, 10, is a junior at Omaha Burke High School, a member of the Burke Band, a member of National Honor Society and participate* in youth activities as a member or AZA #100, USY and Hebrew High School.
