Arms Sale Protest Urged By Barry Morrison Director, ADL/CRC Al Crounsc, chairman of the ADL/CRCommittec urges members of the Omaha community to write President Reagan and Secretary of State Haig protesting the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia. Major national Jewish organizational representatives have concurred that the time to protest the sale Is now. Addresses of the President and Secretary of State are given at the end of the article. Arguments against the sale follow. For assistance or Information, call the ADL/CRC office (333-1303). The Reagan adminstration has signalled Its intent to provide the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with some of the most sophisticated military equipment In the U. S. arsenal. A review of several points should convey the ill-advisability of this undertaking. There is no sound military rationale for the sale of such hardware (K-15 fighter jet equipment, AWACs, etc.). It also remains to be demonstrated how the equipment would be used against other potential enemies. The only likely target Is Israel. The escalating arms race which would ensue poses obvious dangers, dangers compounded by the general volatility of the Middle East. Israel, our long-standing and proven ally, would be at a disadvantage in this race since It simply cannot afford the financial burden (with Its 150 per cent annual inflation rate) exacted by this challenge. "According to orders they were to be killed Just like their parents," said defendant Otto Ohlendort, chief of Elnsatzgriippen, at the Nuremberg trials.
