Campaign May End Early Next Month The 1978 Federation Campaign will be completed In the next few weeks, Joe Kirshenbaum, co-chairman, told the Federation Board of Directors at the group's meeting last week. Mr. Kirshcnbaum said that while some progress is being made toward reaching the Community's goal, strong participation will be needed if a successful completion is to be realized. At its meeting, the Board authorized the procurement of an M.A.E. appraisal for Camp Newman; approved an expenditure of up to an additional $2,100 to the Beber Scholarship Committee to provide camp scholarships for those in need to attend Jewish camps outside Omaha in 1978; approved a transfer of '$4,299 from the Jewish Community Center's maintenance fund to correct a drainage problem on the athletic field.

A Question Persists A few weeks ago, at a Holocaust workshop, the following question was asked: "What -would you say if you could speak now to someone who Had perished in the Holocaust?" Tormented by the question, Rabbi Sidney H Brooks gave his answer Sunday during the Community Yom Hashoah Service at Temple Israel. In his memorial address, Rabbi Brooks said, in part," . . . while I live, I will remember you. I will take an oath to try and fill your space as a Jew . . . so that your memory is a meaningful living blessing." ; Some 150 adults participated in the service and left the sanctuary in reverent silence. In addition to the adultp, there were perhaps three or four under the age of 20, and just a few more from 20 to 40 years of age. What would the children of this community say if they could speak now to someone who had perished in the Holocaust?
The Dead Sea: Alive — Not Dead EIN BOKEK — Most Jewish tourists look upon the Dead Sea as a geographical curiosir ty. It's name is associated with Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot's Wife, a nourishing potash works, and an inability to sink in its waters. Yet growing thousands of Germans, Austrians, Danes, Dutch and Scandinavians have discovered that the therapeutic values of the Dead Sea sun and waters are far superior to most of the famous spas of Europe. And they are coming here in droves. Today there are four hotels, two more are now under construction, and the master plan calls for 17. Remember that this spot is 1200 feet below sea level, and In contrast to the rarefied atmosphere on mountain tops here is the heaviest concentration of oxygen in the world, some 10% more than at sea level. And because the sun shines through 1200 feet more of an atmosphere heavily laden with bromine, the ultra' violet intensity is considerably
reduced. Sunburn does not come easily. The low altitude is good for sufferers from high blood pressure and poor circulation. The low humidity and dryness make the place Ideal for asthma and emphysema, Perhaps the greatest appeal Is to sufferers from psoriasis and eczema. Over a four year period more than a thousand psoriasis patients were brought here from western and central Europe for four weeks of exposure to the climate, the sun and the mineralbearing waters. At the end of that period 90% recovered or showed marked improvement. To be sure it costs money to stay at a comfortable hotel for four weeks, but for most of these patients it would have cost even more to remain in hospitals or subject themselves to long, dragged-out treatments that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. Special treatment in small bath chambers or pools is not necessary. The whole body of the Dead Sea Is available. all other sections of Israel. As we looked out the windows of our room at the Shulamit Gardens we saw a flock of birds swooping low over'the trees and vegetation at this oasis. A few of them came to the edge of the hotel's sweet water swimming pool and had a drink — something they could never do from the waters of the Sea. Hotels, swimming pools, entertainment, television, and now birds? This Is wilderness no more. Truly, life has come to the Dead Sea.

I Old Timers'Review \ f SeniorCitizen Scene By Ait Grossman As 109 Old Timers sauntered Into the J's dining hall, to join in their every other week luncheon, on May 2, a blinding flash greeted their eyes. : After a moment, when eyes became accustomed to the fiery glare, it was discovered , the unexpected brilliance was due to our peerless president EarlSiegel wearing a shimmering red yarmulke. ; It wasn't until our guests of honor, The New Image Quartet from the Chapter of Sweet Adelines, made their appearance to entertain the Old Timers that the special reason Jor Earl wearing the red yarmulke became apparent. Each of the fair damsels was sporting a bright red skirt and :red plaid Jacket. Aside . from crooning, the quartet involved the members in singing along capers. One such performance could well have been called "Bottoms Up" for each time a word began with the letter "B" in the lyrics of "My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean" the men had to alternately jump up then sit back down quickly on their chairs. I tell you, the zetzlng up and down was a bit much for some of our kids. It was^a day for vocalizing
as Sam Sacks, of Council Bluffs, raised his vibrant voice in. chanting both the hamotzi and the bentshen. A particularly swell fellow was the special guest of Sam Zweiback. Benny Stein, a former Omahan, now living in El Paso, Texas, joined the group in breaking bread. Benny and his charming wife were in Omaha to help celebrate the Bar and Bat Mitzvah of two young members of Sam's and my mishpocheh. Dan Greenfield, our resident scholar in the fine art of fishing, announced arrangements were being made to take a party on a rod and reel excursion to Two Rivers.
