Hose 1. Halprin Rose L. Halprin, a world leader of the Zionist movement and the Jewish Community, and twice president of Hadassah, the largest women's volunteer organization in the world, is dead. Mrs. Halprin was known for her personal vivacity, wit and analytical mind, her straightforward appraisals, and her fearless advocacy of the positions she considered sound. A gifted orator, she blended the intellectual and the emotional, the inspirational with the informative. Despite her powerful personality, she was a petite woman — noted for her hats and her elegance — she had the bearing of a mandarin, which was fitting for the role she played on the international scene. Bernice S. Tannenbaum, president of Hadassah, said that, "Mrs. Halprin had served on the national level for 52 years. She was still at her desk planning an Aliyah Conference shortly before her death." Mrs. Tannenbaum said, "Rose was a passionate fighter for principle. She possessed great moral and spiritual strength and was in the vanguard of those who called themselves 'Jewish Women Leaders.' She participated in the great events of. this century and contributed to the decisions Ihat affected Jewish life. She never gave up her right to be heard. And she was listened to with respect and with awe by all those who had the privUedge of working with her." Every generation of Jews has produced leaders who gain the respect and admiration of the entire world community. Mrs. Halprin deserves this recognition.
