This is a letter we did not plan to write but it Is more than a routine letter — it is a call for a response — for there are in the lifetime of adopter or a nation, certain events which call for a response. Such was the heroic rescue of the hostages on July 4. It was an act which once again gave proof to the fact that in the final analysis, when Jews are in trouble they may only look to their fellow Jews for help. , , And so a response is called for + an American Jewish response to the terrorists and their mad ally, Idi Amln. And also a response of a different kind, a response of thanksgiving and appreciation to those who have, once again, added immeasurably to our pride. Words of thanks are good, but they are not enough. We must back up our words with concrete action. The response in Israel was overwhelming. The Israelis, who are the highest taxed people in the world, have voluntarily contributed over $3,000,000 to the soldier and sailor relief fund as an expression of their solidarity. We urge you to demonstrate your solidarity with the people of Israel by making your 1976 pledge to the Omaha Jewish Philanthropies Campaign now. GRATITUDE EXPRESSED
Identity Is Emphasized OMAHA-An immediate start on the College Division segment of the 1976 Omaha Jewish Philanthropies Campaign was urged by members of the Jewish Federation of Omaha at its meetingTbursday.JuIyl. . But the emphasis on the launching of that segment wasn't as much monetary as identity. "Let the college kids know they are part of the Jewish community, too," said Jane Brooks, Federation board member who is chairman of the Jewish Community Center. She and other board members stated that identification would be of perhaps greater benefit both to the Omaha Jewish community and the students than would the money that could be raised. Last year's collegiate campaign raised about $2,000 + about the same as that rasled by the recent Walk for Israel, which featured public school students. - The comments came during a report to the Federation by Executive Director tou Solomon, who projected this year's Campaign will finish at about $1.7 million. The current total stands at $1,519,860 in pledges, an increase of $69,747 over last year's $1,450,113, which had been raised at the same point In that campaign. However, because Omaha started at about $180,000 less than in 1975 due to deaths and-or persons moving away, the 1976 campaign may fall short of the 1975 total of $194 million. The '76 Campaign goal is $2.2 million. - Solomon praised the Wqmen's Division, which has surpassed the $220,000 mark. Comparing 1976 and 1975 pledges, Solomon said that $776,089 has been pledged to the Regular (local needs) Campaign as opposed to $681087 in 1975.This year's Israel Emergency Fund pledges however, are down compared to last year's, $J33,O00 to $749,000.

It was Ladles Day at Sally Appel's on Tuesday, July 13, when she invited 15 for tea. What a lovely afternoon it was, thanks to her wonderful hospitality. Bennie Meyerson was honored the next day at a special birthday party given by his sister, Lena Grossman, and sister-in-law Shirley Meyerson, Thursday afternoon Mary Wine and her talented workers were busy as usual with their various projects. A full busload today went to see the movie "HAWMP" and they agreed It was a warm and interesting picture. Our sincere thanks to B'nal B'rith (District Lodge 6 dinner) for the very beautiful flower arrangements that were sent to the Dr. Sher Home. We need several young people with time on their hands to volunteer in the LOVE program. Make it the "in thing" this summer. The residents lovet-to see young people.
