Israel Announces LiraDevaluation JERUSALEM (JTA)—The devaluation of'Israel's pound (lira) by 20 per cent was reported this week by Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir. ^ • The pound today is worth slightly less than 24 United States cents as against 28 cents, last week. The new official-exchange rate is- 4.20 Israeli pounds to the dollar compared with th'e previous rate of 3.50 to the dollar. . Along with the devaluation, Sapir announced a series of sweeping economic controls designed to keep devaluation from ballooning Israel's domestic prices. He said every price increase domestically could not be more than 20 per cent of the foreign currency factor involved in its costs and that all price increases 'will have to be approved by a special board. Sapir also listed a series of other regulations as part of the new economic program.- He said no new taxes would be imposed and that planned tax reforms .will be implemented on schedule. All existing stocks of products In Israel are to be sold at predevaluatlon prices or be subject to a tax equal to any price increase. He said bank credit was being frozen at present levels. Labor unions are being asked not to present any., new wage demands before expiration of existing collective wage pacts, next year. Later today, Sapir announced new rates for grants to lowincome families. .

Des Moines JCC ATTENTION COLLEGE STUDENTS The; "Jewish 'Community Center is Rooking for staff members for its weekly fall programs. The Center needs college age students with background skills in special areas, such as creative drama, beginning g u i t a r , embroidery for young chiljdren,' drawing, cartooning, sketching, elementary gym, games and. singing with young children, and a variety of other subjects and areas. Classes meet once a week; the day and t i m e of the sessions varies. These are paid positions, depending on the age, skills, and experience of the leaders. Gold, for support of a distinguished professorship in marketing on the Lincoln campus. The Nathan Gold Professor^ ship in Marketing in the College of Business Administration will enable the University of Nebraska, Lincoln to attract to its faculty an additional scholar of distinction in the area of consumer, behaviour. Mr. Gold, who died in 1970, was a University alumnus and was nationally noted as a leader in the retail- industry. He was 'a major contributor to the building of Nebraska, particularly in the areas of development and diversification of the economy. Israel Display at Iowa State Fair Des Moines—A multi-media module telling the story of Israel will be on display at the Iowa S t a t e Fair Aug. 20 through 29, The module will include graphic displays, spund presentations, color slides from Israel, and literature for-distribution. The display, sponsored by the Jewish Welfare Federation, will be located in the grandstand area. Members of the Women's Division of the Federation will serve as volunteer staff. The display is strictly educational in nature. There will be no soliciting. The -story told covers all f a c e t s of Jewish service, including United Jewish Appeal work in Israel, the work, of affiliated agencies in other parts of the world, and locally-supported^programs. The UJA, which prepared the module, has displayed it in many,cities in shopping centers, airports, hotels, community centers and department stores. Its presence here will be something of an experiment, as this will be its first placement at a fair.
