Australian Suspect Pleads Innocent To El Aha Mosque Arson Charges J E R U S A L E M (JTA)—Michael Denis William Rohan, the 28-year-old Australian sheepshearer accused of setting fire to the El Aksa mosque Aug. 21, pleaded innocent to each of two c h a r g e s of arson and two charges of violation' of a Holy Place. The charges were read by Judge Henry E. and spectators including members of the foreign diplomatic corps, Moslem dignitaries from East Jerusalem and Israeli officials. The sight of Rohan flanked by two policemen in a bulletproof glass booth wearing earphones to hear the simultaneous English translation of the H e b r e w proceedings made comparisons with the trial of the notorious Gestapo deportation chief Adolf Eichmann inevitable. I s r a e l i authorities have been anxious to play down the resemblance. .: But the Rohan trial is doubtlessly the most important to be held in Israel since Eichmann was tried, convicted and executed. Swiss Oust Israeli Aide BERN, Switzerland (JTA)—Switzerland has expelled the Israeli military attache Col. Zvi Alon in connection with the alleged theft of plans for the Mirage III-S jet engines manufactured by the Sulzer plant in VVinterthur under license from the French firm of Marcel Dassault. The expulsion order linked Colonel Alon and his predecessor with Alfred Frauenknecht, an employe of Sulzer, who was arrested for the theft on September 23. According to Swiss Attorney General Hans Walder, Mr. Frauenknecht confessed to receiving $200,000 from Israel for the blueprints, models and tooling instructions. They were packed in 20 crates which Mr. Frauenknecht allegedly smuggled across the Rhine by barge to Israeli agents in West Germany. Mr. Walder made his charges public September 26. Israeli officials in Jerusalem said at the time that they had no knowledge of Mr. Frauenknecht and refused further comment. The Mirage III-S is said to be an improved version of the Mirage IV supersonic jet, backbone of Israel's combat airforce. Fifty Mirage V jets which Israel bought and paid for have not been delivered by France owing to the arms embargo imposed by former President Charles de Gaulle two years ago.

By Mickey Gerelick lems at C e n t r a l which are cause for alarm, but not hysteria. I believe that parents have a responsibility to be concerned when violence (whatever the c a u s e ) presents a physical threat to their children in a school situation. I was disturbed, however, about how the parents I spoke to, thought the situation should be handled. A few suggested "fighting violence with violence" which seems to me, would accomplish nothing but more bloodshed. This however, was the minority view. The vast majority of parents said. "If anything more happens, I'm going to pull my child out of Central and bear the tuition expense of sending him/ her "elsewhere." This I found particularly disturbing. First of all, I don't think parents should wait "till something more happens" before taking action. I'm a great believer in preventing problems rather than curing them. Secondly, I'm not sure, that running away is the proper action for either prevention or cure. • It was interesting to note that few-of these parentsjvere-wilking to expend the time or effort to explore other avenues. They rarely, if ever, attended PTA' meetings where these problems could and should be aired.. They discussed their fears 'with 'each other, but few had ever brought any thing to the attention of school officials or other community sources that cduMTBe of help. It was the old story again of "lack of involvement." In spite of the hysteria voiced by many Jewish parentsritrwas interesting to note, that at a meeting of the school board last Monday, only one set of Jewish parents appeared voicing concern, and suggestingconcrete action to prevent further incidents at Central?7^ A statement' made at; that school board.meeting Mondayvice-president of the u u a x u, , seems to put the Central probMr. Hart said "thaTWTugfit school principals have been directed "to bring into play any security measures they deem necessary" to keep order. "This board," said Mr. Hart, "Intends to maintain an atmosphere of learning in all schools.. Any child who cannot abide by tlie 7 rulenvlll be" suspended"andultimately expelled." That directive should handle the discipline problems at Central. It should restore "law and order" in the school system for the time being. But there will be a "next time" unless parents get involved in all the many facets of the root causes that fester into violence. , The school board and school officials have voiced their willingness to keep "an open door, an available ear and a willing spirit" to hear from anyone. The PTA begs for "the cooperation of parents." The ADL office will get involved if alerted "to impending problems. I-mighteven suggest t h a t the root c a u s e s of student unrest is within the sphere of study and action by Jewish organizations. It's certainly as "Jewish" as bowling and style shows. Involvement rather than violence or apathy seems to be called for, For the small segment olthose who asked—these are my comments. AZA 100's Bob Handleman drove the Chaim Weizmann defense to a near collapse as he continually was able to penetrate for long yardage. Rayim won a thrilling 12-6 victory over AZA 1 in overtime play. AZA l was on the scoreboard first as Steve Pitlor ran for the six points. The all-important extra point failed and the score at the end of the half read -AZA 1-6-0 over-Rayim.
