Omaha Aid Urged in The United Jewish Appeal has launched an extensive national casli drive to raise $25,000,000 during the month of June, needed by the UJA to meet critical requirements of the people of • Israel, Robert M. Feinberg, Regional Chairman on Cash Collections, announced this week.

Tiie drive will seek to redeem 19G9 pledges for both the Israel Emergency Fund and the Regular UJA Fund, for the vast humanitarian programs

Abie Nathan Flies Again JERUSALEM <JTA)~Abie Nathan, Israel's self-styled "peace ilot," flew to Cairo from Rome this week in another attempt to ring peace to the Middle East. He landed at the Cairo airport arid was told to leave the country. According to a Cyprus radio broadcast he was immediately placed on a plane bound for Athens.

This was the third futile attempt of the Tel Aviv restaurant owner to meet with Egypt's President Nasser. Carrying a British passport Nathan arrived in Cairo on a Japanese airliner from Rome. It was reported that Nathan was recognized by airport authorities and taken into custody. After an investigation, he was ordered to leave the country.

In bis two previous peace missions, Mr. Nathan piloted his own plane from Israel to Port Said. His first flight, Feb. 28, 1966, ended in Port Said when the local governor turned him back. In a program worked out by the Crown Heights Community Council and the New York Police Department, 24 police officers, all non-Jews, disguised themselves as Hasidim to combat a rash of beatings suffered by Hasidim by local hoodlums.

According to. Rabbi Arnold Wolf, chairman, of the Crown Heights Community Council, such threats and assaults have dropped off heavily. "Imagine the amazement and stupification," he said, when a tough attacked what he thought was a defenseless Hasid, only to find him fighting back and identifying himself as ' a policeman.

Rabbi Wolf said; "As a result of close cooperation between the police department and the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, the Crown Heights area in the past year has seen a sharp decrease in crime.

Rabbi Goldman, who has the support of several student and faculty g r o u p s at Columbia, has accused the'Jewish Alumni Advisory Board of complicity with the university administration in firing him because of his support of student rebels in last, spring's disorders on the Columbia campus. Mr. Sulzberger commented that as far as he could recollect, Rabbi Goldman was informed of his dismissal before the campus troubles.

QUESTION': Why d!d the Bible require the termer lo leave some grain at the end of his field during harvest time?

ANSWER: This was obviously done so that the poor could come and glean the leftover grains of the field.

The rabbis give at least four reasons for requiring the farmer to leave this portion at the end! ol the Held, One is that this would prevent the farmer from informing relatives of his who are po^r. where the place for the leftovers would be before he finishes harvesting the grain. They could thus come fay and pick the remainder and deprive other poor people of their chance to glean. Requiring the farmer to leave the leftovers at the end of the field makes it possible for all to know where they are as well as when he lias finished harvesting.

A second reason given Is that if tlie poor did not know iha place where the leftovers are* kept, they would have to stand around and wait to see which portion of the field is last harvested, thus preventing them from earning anything or gleaning anything elsewhere.

A third reason is that if the leftover portion is not assigned to one special place in the Held, passers-by might think that tho farmer had left no portion for the poor, The fourth reason given is .that the, farmer might claim he already left some grain which had been picked up thus deceiving the poor.

The Bible (Leviticus, 19:8) thus .wished to make sure that every possible precaution was taken to see to it that the poorwould not be deprived of their needs, which is considered to ba an obligation on the part of the farmer.

Beth Israel Synagogue Scene Of Blumenthal-Amster Rites Miss Amy Blumenthal became the bride of Nathan- Amster, Sunday, June 8, 1969. Rabbi Isaac Nadoff and Cantor Jacob Lefkowitz officiated at the 6 p.m. ceremony at Beth Israel Synagogue. A dinner followed in the synagogue social hall.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Blumenthai, Dallas, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Roman Amster are the parents of the bridegroom.

Miss Anita Baskin was maid of honor. Bridesmaids 'Were the Misses Roni Fisher and Arlene v Newman.
