A set of threo stamps depicting wild flowers was issued by Israel's Ministry of Posts, in commemoration of the nation's fifteenth Independence Day. The white lily considered one of tiie most beautiful of Israel's wild flowers a p p e a r s on tho 11,0,00 v a l u e ; Mentioned frefluently in the Bible, especially : in the Song of Solomon, the lily Jias served as a popular symbol of beauty, fragrance and generosity for centuries, The architects of King Solomon's Temple chose (he lily as decoration for the pillars of the Temple; it also
has been used on ancient Israeli coins. In the late spring, when most wild flowers have disappeared, the pretty Althaea Setosa Bois (popularly called "The Tower of Bells") makes its appearance. This tall straight flower with graceful rose-pink blossoms, is portrayed on the 1L0.30 stamp. The tulip which turns the coastal plains of Israel to_ flaming red during March and April, is featured on the ILO.37 stamp, This lovely wild flower is considered tho original forebear of the stately tulip now cultivated all over the world. Goldstein, Federation President, stated. 16 Living Cabins The camp, which includes 16 living cabins, four unit pavilions, a large modern Main Lodge, an administration building, swim-
ming pool and pool pavilion, plus a health lodge and personnel cabins, is now being landscaped and readied for the use of the campers, at the end of this month, Mr. Goldstein, declared. Built Kecicef for London (JTA)—Professor Eugene Saenger, the West German rocket expert, declared in an interview in the Daily Telegraph that he and Egyptian engineers had built a rocket in Egypt capable of reaching a height of 300 miles. He s a i d in the interview, which took place in Berlin, that the Egyptians had invited him to Cairo in the spring of 1360 "to make a meteorologicalsounding r o c k e t." In October 1961, the West German Government asked him and his colleagues, all formerly from Space Departments at Stuttgart, to return to West Germany. He said he did so but that most of his colleagues stayed in Egypt.
tSazi Founi Suilty of First Degree liurder Arlington, Va. (JTA)—John C. Vinson, Jr., 18-year-old adherent of Neo-Nazism and a k n o w n smearer of swastikas, was found guilty of a first degree murder here in the fatal shooting last September of Lewis M. Goldfein, 17, a Jewish honor student. First degree murder in Virginia is punishable by death "or a prison sentence of from 20 years to life. , ' ~ Judge Albert V. Bryan, Jr., said Vinson's actions v/ere "deliberate and purposeful" noting that he had carefully armed himself with a revolver and extra ammunition before going to the Goldfein home. A pathologist who is also an expert in ballistics, testified that Goldfein was shot three times in what the doctor termed a deliberate, aimed " series of shots. The judge, who will pronounce sentence in June said Vinson's mental condition "may mitigate punishment, but not the offense." Vinson, whose f a t h e r is a Washington, D.C. policeman, had been under mental confinement since his arrest for the crime.
Belgian Funds Raised To Aid French Jews Milan," (JTA)—A check* for $34,000 to aid the influx of North African Jews in France was presented to the Standing Conference on European Jewish Community Services at the close of a meeting here. The money was the proceeds of a national campaign among Belgian Jews, which Jewish l e a d e r s said marked the first time that a drive had managed to enlist the support of all elements of the Belgian Jewish community.

Ssrael Sets Two U.S. Annual Fund Raising Washington (WNS)—Israel received from the United States two loans totaling $G,80O,0O0, one for $4,400,000 to enlarge the Timna copper mines and the other for use in building a combined power and desalination plant at Eilat, The Israel Mining Company seeks to double the output of the Timna works and to implement a new process for metallic copper. The Israel Electricity Board plans to produce a million gallons of distilled water in the new Eilat plant. The loans are for 20 years at two per cent interest.

Chicago Federation Gels $200,000 Grant Chicago (JTAi — The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chi-, cago has received a $200,000 grant for the purpose of establishing a Department of Re* search. The Research Department will act as a clearing house and evaluation center for all social welfare research projects and experimental services carried forward by the Jewish Federation agencies and by the Federation. Involved in the work of the department will be a continuing basic study of the people in the Jewish community of Chicago, their attitudes, their resources, their potentialities; and a concomitant study of the processes used to serve them.
