Swimming at Camp Free Swim Swim time during summer is certainly a highlight of the day! Campers will have the opportunity to swim every day in either our heated junior Olympic pool (3 5 feet deep) or our wading pool (2 1/2 feet deep).

Water safety is of utmost importance to us and that is why all staff are CPR and first aid certified and are trained in water safety. Our camper-to-staff ratios are the strictest during pool time and lifeguards are always on duty.

Campers who pass the swim test are allowed in the deep end of the pool.

Campers can opt out of the swim test if they would prefer to stay in the shallow end of the big pool or the wading pool. The swim test is demonstrating the ability to swim from one end of the pool to the other without stopping or requiring assistance.

Instructional Swim Our aquatics department runs private and group swim lessons throughout summer for an added fee. Swim lessons can be scheduled during the camp day and we will take care of escorting and picking up your camper from their swim lesson.

Sports Camps

Most sports camps are open to campers 2nd - 5th grade

Sports campers are able to join traditional camp for a field trip for an additional fee ($25 - $75).

Floor Hockey Mini Camp Week 2: 7/1 - 7/3 He shoots, he scores! Floor hockey is one of our campers’ favorite sports in the gym! Come join us for a mini camp the week of the 4th of July filled with practice drills and scrimmages that culminate into a tournament! Floor hockey is played with foam sticks to minimize injury. Teams are also smaller to maximize time playing the puck. This camp will take place inside our gym from 9 am-11 am.

Futsal Soccer Camp with First Touch Soccer Week 3: 7/8 - 7/12, Week 7: 8/5 - 8/9 (Open to all ages) We are partnering with First Touch Soccer to bring futsal to summer camp!

First Touch has experience running year-round clinics and leagues that will develop your camper’s soccer skills! Camp will consist of technical activities, fun games, and scrimmages! This camp will take place in our gym from 9 am-11 am.

Sports Camps

Most sports camps are open to campers 2nd - 5th grade

Sports campers are able to join traditional camp for a field trip for an additional fee ($25 - $75).

BBallers Hoops School Week 4: 7/15 - 7/19, Week 5: 7/22 - 7/26 The BBallers Hoops School team is ready to hone your camper’s basketball skills! Campers will be split into teams where they will practice the fundamentals of basketball with plenty of opportunities to compete and improve. This camp will run from 9 am-11 am.

SkateDogs Skate Camp Week 6: 7/29 - 8/2 Grab your skateboard and helmet and join us for skate camp with SkateDogs!

Campers will spend the morning offsite with SkateDogs learning the basics of skateboarding like proper footing, how to drop-in, simple tricks, and having fun! Skate camp will be ~9:30am-noon. Campers will need to bring their own skateboard, helmet, and pads.

Specialty campers are able to join traditional camp for a field trip for an additional fee ($25 - $75).

Lego Camps (Open to all ages) Week 4: 7/15 - 7/19, Week 6: 7/29 - 8/2, Week 8: 8/12 - 8/16 Lego Marty is back for Summer 2024! Lego Marty brings with him a host of experience leading Lego-themed camps with campers of all ages from Advanced Robotics with Lego to beginner classes like Lego Robot World that have introductory motors introduced. For more information on the specific classes, please refer to the individual sessions on our registration page.

Culinary Camp with Chef Patti (Open to campers 2nd grade +) Week 5: 7/22 - 7/26, Week 7: 8/5 - 8/9 Let’s get cooking with Chef Patti Fleetwood! Campers will receive hands-on training in a kitchen lab environment, learning culinary skills such as kitchen/food safety, measuring, knife safety and cutting techniques, basic nutrition, and various cooking techniques. No experience is needed. Campers will work through the entire cooking process from start to finish!

Gibborim (6th - 8th) Gibborim is for our oldest campers who are ready for independence and want to explore LA and Orange County all summer long! Their schedule is typically comprised of one mitzvah (commandment - good deed) project per week, one beach/bay day (Fridays), and the remaining days spent adventuring all around the area!

Our Gibborim group will have a dedicated teen space in the building this summer with a staff-to-camper ratio of 1:8. They can swim any camp day spent in-house or on trips with early returns (2 pm). Gibborim campers may go off in small groups for some field trips with parent/guardian approval. We have regular check-in times throughout the day to help ensure safety and facilitate responsible independence.

We understand most of our teen campers have phones, however, camp should be spent socializing in person with friends and having fun. We will have dedicated electronic use times designated on the schedule (typically 30 minutes per day), however outside of that specified time, the expectation is that electronics are away.

Our goal for this group is to facilitate healthy relationships that teach proper social skills heading into the most formative years of a teenager's life. Campers have considerable input on their daily schedule when in the building and will have plenty of opportunities to plan programs around their own interests. Day at Camp

Camp Information Camp Hours General camp hours are 9 AM - 4 PM. Drop-off will begin at 8:45AM. Pick-up will begin at 3:30 PM and end at 4 PM. Extended care is available beginning at 7:30 AM and ending at 6 PM. We do not offer only AM or only PM extended care. Extended care is an additional $125/week

Food Policies Campers are required to bring their own lunch to camp every day. We do not provide refrigerators or microwaves, so please plan accordingly. Send your camper with necessary utensils. We are a nut-free camp. Do not send your camper with food containing tree nuts or peanuts. We will ask your camper to put it away.

Medical Policies All campers are required to have up-to-date vaccinations on file with camp before they are able to attend.

We will have a few “pre-camp” orientation days where parents/guardians can drop the records off. If none of those dates work, you can stop by anytime to drop off a copy. Failure to provide records will result in a forfeiture of the camp spot. If you would like to request a waiver, please reach out to Brandon Murray (bmurray@alpertjcc.org), however there is no guarantee of exemption.

Financial Aid Camp Komaroff provides need-based financial aid up to 50% of camp dues. Financial aid does not apply to the registration fee. Financial aid, in combination with other discounts, will never go above 50% of camp fees. To request a financial aid application, please contact Brandon Murray (bmurray@alpertjcc.org).

Camp Information

Billing (Please Read Carefully!)

Weeks 1 - 5 of camp will be billed on June 1, 2024. Weeks 6 - 9 of camp will be billed on July 1, 2024. Once a camp fee is charged, there are no refunds. If you would like to cancel a week of camp, send an email to the youth email (youth@alpertjcc.org). Be sure to include your child’s name and the week number. Substitutions may be available based on availability. Payments made using ACH will receive a 3% discount.

To set up camp payments on ACH, go through registration as usual. On the checkout page at the very end, Daxko will ask you for a payment method. Select “Bank Draft” and fill out the necessary information.

Select your newly added bank account as your preferred method of payment and you are all set! If you have any issues adding a new payment method, we can assist over the phone.

Changes to Camp Status All changes to camp attendance are subject to availability. We can not guarantee that the desired week or option is available, especially with limited capacity for some of our specialty or sports camps. If you would like to request a change, email our youth email (youth@alpertjcc.org) outlining which weeks you would like to add/drop. Additional camp fees may apply if the desired options are more expensive than those already registered for. If a substitute is requested for a cheaper camp option after billing has occurred, there will not be a refund for the difference.

Sibling Discounts Pay for one child at full price and get a 10% discount on all the other siblings! Discount won’t be reflected at checkout, however we will apply the discount after registration.

How to Register Register Online!

Camp registration is entirely online through Daxko. If you have registered for any other program at the AJCC before, you likely have an account already with us. If you do not, you will need to create one. This can be done by selecting your age group below, then clicking "Sign Up" in the upper righthand corner. You will need to add information about your camper to your Daxko profile before you can register them.

Camp FAQs

Do campers swim everyday?

Campers will have the option to swim nearly everyday at camp. Some exceptions apply if your camper is out on a field trip or in a specialty camp that conflicts with swim time. We do typically offer swim earlier in the day for campers in PM specialty camps. Campers that opt to not swim often spend additional time either in the gym or at playground.

What do I need to pack for my camper each day?

Campers will need a lunch, swim stuff (don’t forget the sunscreen!), close-toed shoes, and a water bottle. We recommend packing an extra snack as we are pretty active throughout the day.

PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING YOU SEND WITH YOUR CAMPER. Does camp have naptime?

Camp does not have naptime. In the extreme circumstance a camper needs a nap, we can often accommodate one in the camp office, however it should not be a regular occurrence.

Can my child bring toys or electronics?

Camp should be free of electronics and toys from home. There will be plenty of time after camp for those things and we would rather spend the time at camp together. Camp Komaroff is not responsible for the theft or damage of personal property.

Is my child responsible for carrying their own belongings with them all day?

We try to have designated homerooms where each camp group can leave their belongings to minimize the amount of stuff your camper has to carry. We will often have them bring all of their belongings to the locker rooms before swim time, however the remainder of the day they typically only have their water bottle with them.
