Department Updates Strategy and Impact • All committees are wrapping up grant decision processes through the beginning of June. The Community Impact Committee (CIC) met in late April and again in May to finalize Jewish Community Funding for FY27. Overall, 64 agencies were approved for funding for general operating grants: 16 under Caring for Those in Need Locally (3 new), 28 under Securing a Vibrant Jewish Future Locally (7 new), and 20 under Supporting Israel & Global Jewry (12 new). An additional four agencies were approved for funding to support a new mental health capacity-building initiative across Greater Philadelphia. This initiative will help enhance mental health services for Jewish individuals in our region as well as prepare professionals who may encounter minor mental health issues in program clients or participants.

• The Strategy & Impact team is hard at work reviewing all information on hand to prepare award letters for grantees and decline letters to be sent to those not chosen for FY27 funding. Letters are anticipated to go out at the end of June.

• We regret to announce the departure of Director of Strategy & Impact Daria Barkai as of May 26.

She took a position with the Orthodox Union as their Director of Governance & Leadership. We wish her all the best of luck in her future position.

Additionally, Beth Razin officially retired on May 20. She dedicated her entire career to the Jewish community of Greater Philadelphia through her work at both Gratz College and the Jewish Federation. We appreciate all her years of service.

Rothenberg joins us from the Jewish Federation of Detroit as senior director of planning & agency relations, a position he has held since 2017.

Community Leadership Development / Engagement • On June 3, over 160 community members gathered at the Jewish Federation’s Spring Annual Meeting at Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El . The evening offered community members, lay leaders and our partner agencies a chance to come together to vote on our board members for Fiscal Year 2027, honor our Circle of Partners and recognize past leaders. The meeting featured a conversation betweenFoundation for Jewish Camp Board Chair Jeffrey M. Solomon and Jewish Federation Campaign Co-Chair on why Jewish identity matters now more than ever. • The Community Development team is moving forward with the transitioning of the Kehillah program to Federation in your Neighborhood.

Community Engagement Managers are meeting with their Kehillah Leadership teams to discuss how the changes will affect them. Over the summer the transition will be complete and Jewish Federation in Your Neighborhood will formally begin in the fall.

• The Strategy & Impact team is excited to welcome our new Chief Strategy & Impact Officer Brian Rothenberg, who will officially begin on July 2.

JCRC and Government Affairs • The Jewish Federation, through the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and its Center to Combat Antisemitism, is excited to launch a new threeyear partnership with the Shalom Hartman Institute’s Courageous Communities initiative. Over the course of the program, the Jewish Federation will convene three cohorts — including congregational rabbis, participants in JCRC’s community study group, and lay leaders — to engage in deep learning and facilitate dialogue around some of the most pressing questions facing the Jewish community today.

• On June 9, the Jewish Federation brought community members to Harrisburg for our annual Advocacy Day. Participants met directly with state legislators and key policymakers to discuss issues of importance to the Jewish community and broader Commonwealth, including combating antisemitism, strengthening community security, and advancing policies that promote safe and inclusive communities.

• JCRC Chief Jason Holtzman attended the Exodus Leadership Forum–Redstone Family Foundation National Black-Jewish Convening in Miami, joining faith leaders, community organizers, philanthropists, and advocates from across the country. Holtzman and Pastor Carl Day were invited to present on the work of the New Golden Age coalition, sharing lessons learned from Greater Philadelphia’s efforts to strengthen Black-Jewish relations through authentic relationship building, dialogue and collaborative action. Jason was one of three JCRC professionals from around the country in attendance and had the opportunity to engage with leaders from JFNA, JCPA, Crown Philanthropy, the Lubetzky Family Foundation, the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and numerous other national organizations committed to combating hate and strengthening intergroup relations.

Jewish Community Foundation • At the Jewish Federation’s Spring Annual Meeting on June 3, Circle of Partners Chairs, Mary and Nathan Relles, led an acknowledgement and thank you to all Circle of Partners members.

• The Jewish Community Foundation Board met on June 8. The meeting focused on making assignments for Board members to reach out to major donors in order to start having endowment conversations with them.

• Following the Lion of Judah event on May 7, the Foundation staff have continued to follow up with the women who expressed interest in a Lion of Judah Endowment (LOJE) at the event..

Human Resources • We are excited to be rolling out our new Organization’s Internal values. A team of employees led by Chief Human Resources Officer Melissa Gabillon created our values that will guide the organization’s internal processes and programs moving forward, and serve as a daily reminder of how we will work together, interact with each other, collaborate and foster teamwork.

• We welcomed Laura Rock to the team as our new client services manager for the Mitzvah Food Program (MFP).

• We welcomed Brian Rothenberg, chief strategy & impact officer.

• We welcomed Joshua Ciliberti, marketing coordinator.

• We welcomed Justin Glozman, IT intern through the JEVS Franklin C. Ash summer internship program.

• Janae Ferrigno was promoted from EITC coordinator to staff accountant.

• Shira Grundland was promoted from Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) administrative assistant to JCRC programs and operations manager.

• Melissa Goldstein transferred from part-time community engagement manager to full-time Strategy & Impact program associate.

• Roger Pedro (Events) celebrated 24 years on May 6.

• Pat Quarles (Planned Giving) celebrated 19 years on May 14 • Rita Khayt (Finance) celebrated 21 years on May 16 • Sarah Solomon (FRD) celebrated 16 years on May 24.

• Gaya Miskaryan (Finance) celebrated 17 years on May 27.

• Robin Schatz (JCRC) celebrated 22 years with the Jewish Federation on June 1.

FRD/Affinity Women of Vision: • Women of Vision’s Strategic Plan will be finalized at the June Executive Committee Meeting. Their consultant will stay on for another 6-12 months to help guide the implementation process.

• Over 160 Women of Vision members voted on this year’s grant finalists. The Executive Committee will approve the grants and allocate any remaining funds at the June meeting. The top three organizations that were voted on were: • Jewish Family & Children’s Service: Here for You, Greater Philadelphia ($30k requested).

• National Council of Jewish Women: Jews for Abortion Access ($40k requested).

• JAFCO FamilyMatters: Women’s Empowerment Program ($60k requested).

Jewish Federation Real Estate (JFRE): JFRE had a successful slate of spring events and started putting together topic and speaker ideas for Legends and Leaders on Nov. 12. This event will also include the induction of Ron Caplan into the JFRE Hall of Fame.

The Sharon and Joseph Kestenbaum Legacy Philanthropy Program In recognition of our leadership in philanthropic engagement, the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) has invited our Jewish Federation to showcase the Legacy Philanthropy Program as part of a national training series for Jewish Federation professionals. We will highlight our Legacy Philanthropy Program, Family Philanthropy Institute and ongoing alumni engagement efforts.

This distinction underscores Philadelphia’s reputation as a leader in developing innovative approaches to cultivating the next generation of Jewish philanthropists.

NextGen Update: • NextGen honored their four Board Members — Tara Cherwony, Alexa Epstein, Julie Mozes and Tori Rultenberg— who will be rolling off at the end of August, and are in continued conversation navigating their next roles. At the same time, we are working to

fill the open roles, engaging both new members and re-engaging returning members.

• Over the summer, the Ben Gurion Society will celebrate at their Summer Soiree, and NextGen will be recruiting for the fall Couples Mission (Nov. 1-8) to Israel for those who come from different faith backgrounds.

Women’s Philanthropy • Women’s Philanthropy will be transitioning leadership in September, thanking Robin Robbins and Jen Thomas for their amazing service as cochairs and welcoming Allison Goodman and Rachel Steinberg who will begin their terms on Sept. 1. We are filling positions for the 2026-2027 Women’s Philanthropy Executive Board and hosted a potential leadership lunch to empower women we see as leaders. We are very excited for what’s to come.

• Women’s Philanthropy is gearing up for the first ever Community Game Day! We will be gathering at the Jersey shore on July 30 to enjoy Mahjong, canasta and other games while connecting with an incredible community of women.

Wexner Heritage Update: The 20 participants in the fourth cohort of the Wexner Heritage Program will travel to Israel in July as part of their continued leadership development through the Wexner Foundation. Participants have been invited to extend their stay for a visit to the Federation’s Partnership2Gether region of Sdot Negev and Netivot, providing an opportunity to deepen their connection to Israel and experience, firsthand, the impact of Philadelphia’s nearly 30year partnership with the region.

Marketing/Events/PR Annual Report: The marketing team is honored to share the Jewish Federation’s FY25 Annual Report. You can view the report by clicking here.

Strengthening Resilience in Jewish Teens and Families: The Jewish Federation entered a partnership with the Center for Parent and Teen Communication, which aims to equip Jewish teens and families with resilience-building tools rooted in science and Jewish values. The partnership included the launch of a digital resource site to provide teens and families with the tools to strengthen resiliency.

PR: In May, the marketing team secured 53 pieces of coverage, highlighting the Jewish Federation’s JAHM celebration with the mayor’s office, the JFNA security fly-in, and the JCRC response to problematic statements and flyers in the PA primary. These stories included features in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Algemeiner, and Broad + Liberty. Articles featuring the Jewish Federation were exposed to an estimated audience of 106 million people and received an estimated 2 million views, furthering the Jewish Federation’s work to serve as the voice for the local Jewish community. Social Media: May’s social media performance supports some of the conclusions drawn from April’s report. Photo carousels continue to perform stronger than text-heavy graphics across platforms. Additionally, a more intentional strategy around sharing and reposting on X has garnered improvements on the platform. Overall, follower growth has stabilized across platforms with the most growth coming from LinkedIn. It’s worth noting that in February and March, we published viral statements and a CNN clip, respectively. Our metrics seem to be stabilizing. Content effectiveness remains highly platform-specific. Women’s Philanthropy and Women of Vision drive engagement on Facebook and Instagram, while audiences on X and LinkedIn respond to news and leadership-focused content like the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) Fly-in. Most notably, social media engagement in May was driven by people who want to feel like they’re a part of the story – whether that’s about someone’s career success or the charitable work of the Jewish Federation’s lay leadership. Finance/IT/Operations/Real Estate/Donor Services and Data Services • We prepare to implement Ramp, an enterpriseclass accounts payable automation and management system.

• We are rolling out financial statement dashboards to P&L-responsible managers. Along with the rollout we are providing hand-on training.

• We are evaluating another layer of financial fraud protection to confirm vendor banking information prior to submitting payments.

• We are working to develop a consulting agreement with Heller Consulting to build the customization layer in the new CRM. • We have provided significant guidance and support for our colleagues in other Federations that are undergoing the same CRM conversion process.

• We have completed the annual tax returns. The returns are available to board members to securely access and review the returns.

• We are preparing to complete the closing of the sale of Kleinlife.

• We are building a central collection point to monitor where we will focus community security resources to strengthen security at agencies in our community.
