All campers should bring swim gear, sunscreen, a water bottle, and hat. A change of clothes is also recommended. All J-Camp programs are co-ed with age or grade requirements listed by each camp. Campers are divided into groups based on the grade they will enter in September 2015, or their age as of 6/1/15.

DEAR J-CAMP FAMILIES: We are so pleased that you are considering J-Camp for your child this summer! The variety of J-Camp programs we offer provide an excellent opportunity for children ages 2 to 15 to make the most of their summer vacation. Following the success of last year’s new J-Camp format, we are excited to share this year’s wonderful offerings with you and your family! Each of our J-Camp programs, Camp K’Ton (ages 2-3), Camp Yeladim (ages 3-5), Camp Haverim (grades K-6) and Counselors-in-Training (grades 7-10), provide your child with a wide range of opportunities to help them discover their perfect niche. All J-Camp programs feature age-appropriate activities led by experienced and knowledgeable staff who take great pride in providing your child with a warm and caring environment that fosters self-confidence, teamwork, and respect. J-Camp activities range from outdoor play, swimming, art projects, gymnastics, drama, cooking, field trips, and more. J-Camp will embrace a new holistic wellness curriculum for children called Discover CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Children’s Health). The program focuses on the importance of physical activity, health education, gardening, and healthy eating behaviors. As such, we will now provide healthy lunch and snacks for all campers on a daily basis! This summer, all J-Camp programs will feature weekly coordinated Judaic themes which will focus on universal human values. This new synchronized approach will allow campers to connect with each other while feeling like they are part of something bigger. Our camp staff is certified in CPR and First Aid and all J-Camp programs offer excellent staff-to-camper ratios with an emphasis on health and safety. As always, we are eager to provide your child with the highest standard of care while helping to create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Camp K’Ton at the David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center is for children ages 2 - 3 years. Camp begins Monday, June 29 and ends on Friday, August 21, 2015. Camp K’Ton runs in four 2-week sessions (8 weeks total). Children will engage in a wide variety of activities including arts & crafts, swim, sports, story time, cooking, gardening and more. Camp K’Ton is offered in two convenient time frames; half-day from 9:00am - 12:30pm, or full-day from 9:00am - 4:00pm, with added options for early arrival and extended day.

Camp Yeladim at the David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center offers children the opportunity to engage in recreational and educational summer programming. Our trained and qualified staff is nurturing, caring, and understands the development of young children. Camp Yeladim encourages children’s natural creativity and curiosity as they explore and learn throughout the summer. Every week, campers will engage in a variety of activities including swimming and water play, cooking, movement, sports, Shabbat, and arts & crafts. Educational field trips, community visitors, and Jewish values will be integrated into the daily schedule. “Down-time” is also a part of the daily routine. Camp Yeladim offers a variety of scheduling options for both working and non-working parents as it is offered Monday through Friday from as early as 8:00am to as late as 6:00pm. Our exciting Camp Haverim will not disappoint! Each week, campers will enjoy participating in a variety of activities focused around specific Judiac and secular themes. Campers are split into groups by age allowing their days to be filled with exciting age-appropriate activities and challenging opportunities to discover new interests, develop different skills, and explore their surroundings. There will also be times when all campers are together as a group to help build community. We will start the day outside on the field with a morning huddle to hear the day’s news and activities. Campers will also have the opportunity to gather together during snack, lunch, and special programs planned throughout the summer. Weekly schedules allow children to rotate through a variety of activities, including the specialties many have grown to love. There are electives each day allowing campers to focus on their specific interests. Campers will also have daily swim lessons and the opportunity to choose free-swim as one of their electives. We’ve also lined up exciting special visitors who will conduct lessons and activities based on the weekly themes. In addition to weekly field trips, every Friday campers will make challah for Shabbat and will bring home a parents’ letter outlining all the fun they had, including a glimpse into the following week. Counselor-In-Training (CITs): grades 7 - 10

ARE YOU A TEEN LOOKING TO DEVELOP YOUR LEADERSHIP SKILLS? DO YOU WANT TO EXPLORE WORKING WITH CHILDREN IN A CREATIVE, SUPPORTIVE, AND FUN ENVIRONMENT? BECOME A CIT!

Being a Counselor-in-Training is one of the most enjoyable positions available to a young person, but it can also be hard work. It involves dealing with children and your peers on a continual basis. CITs work directly with counselors running programs, creating activities, and learning a variety of teaching techniques. It’s a very rewarding job and gives teens outstanding experience working with others. But the CIT program isn’t all hard work—participants still have the chance to join in fun activities like weekly field trips. And there’s a private CIT lounge where they can unwind without the campers. The best part... If CITs have a particular area of interest such as sports or art, they can choose to spend more time working with campers in those activities. However, they’ll also be exposed to other activities allowing them to strengthen skills beyond their comfort zone. CITs will have time each day to meet as a group for training and team building workshops. Workshops subjects include: • Behavior management and chronic behavior problems • Managing peer pressure • How to handle emergency scenarios • Program development and implementation At the end of each session, CITs will receive a certificate of accomplishment as they show marked growth in their teaching and leadership skills. CITs that earn four certificates throughout the summer will automatically get an interview as a Junior Counselor in J-Camp when they turn 16. Not all certificates have to be collected in a one year period. All CITs will also receive Red Cross CPR and First Aid training, with the opportunity to become certified. Sailing the Oceans Week We live in the Ocean State, but how much do you really know about our oceans? Come explore with us during this week of water as we learn about the ocean environment. Save the Bay will visit camp for a hands-on experience with a variety of ocean critters. Campers will also have the opportunity to learn about ocean life through various projects, games, and water activities. The field trip this week will be to Spring Lake Beach.

Heroes Week Help save the world during this week at camp as we explore all kinds of heroes, including the ones you run into every day, as well as the superheroes we admire. They will also create superhero names and capes, practice using their very own “super-power” and learn to jump over buildings! This week’s field trip will be to RISPCA, the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Under the Big Top Week Come run away to the J-Camp Circus as we transform into a carnival atmosphere. Campers will have the opportunity to create their own carnival booth, cook circus food, and help make carnival-inspired decorations. Our week will end with campers and counselors enjoying the carnival they created as well as a surprise or two! The Big Nazo puppet performers will join us Friday afternoon for a special performance. This week’s field trip will be to the EcoTarium.

Ooey Gooey Science Week Experiment in the “science lab” and create Ooey Gooey surprises. This week is full of substances that are just waiting to foam, ooze, and erupt! Children will explore simple combinations of ordinary household materials that result in goop that bounces, snaps, and crackles. The experiments are designed to allow for natural discovery as children touch, taste, see, and/or smell the coolest science ever. Half-day and full-day options are available.

Find out as we create our very own J-Camp compost this week to see how earthworms help us and help make our lives better. The special guest this week will be animal expert Dave Marchetti, who will be coming with his live snakes, frogs, turtles and even a full grown alligator! This week’s field trip will be to Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Construction Week This week we will focus on constructing objects and games. Activities will include working with rockets, stick structures, ramps, balls, and cup towers that will all be made using recycled materials. The special guest this week will be Linda White who will teach us how we can use our imagination and found items to create anything campers can think of. Activities will be open-ended for creation, exploration, and play. This week’s field trip will be to the Boston Children’s Museum.

Maccabi/Olympics Week This week, campers will participate in a series of athletic competitions. Events will range from those typically found in camp color-wars to those found in the Summer Olympics. We will celebrate the end of our gold-medalwinning week by making our own ice cream sundaes! This week’s field trip will be to Rhode Island Rock Gym in South County.

Wild Things Week For the final week of camp, we will investigate the difference between a rainforest and an African desert. Campers will use all they learned to help create an African safari at camp. We will end the summer with a goodbye dance party and an extra special Shabbat celebration. This week’s field trip will be to Douglas State Park. or Travel Camp Week (grades 3 - 7: space is limited) Enjoy a different field trip each day! Travel Camp encourages an appreciation of our community and environment, as well as teamwork and responsibility. Field trips may include a waterslide park, beach, state park, bowling and a movie, and an amusement park.

Counselors-In-Training: CIT FUN WEEK! In addition to the regularly scheduled Thursday field trip, all CITs will join Travel Camp on Wednesday, August 19. There will be other special CIT activities planned throughout the week. CIT Fun Week is only available to teens who have participated in our CIT program throughout the summer.

J-CAMP POLICIES & PROCEDURES DISCOUNTS EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT* Register and pay in full by April 24, 2015, and save $10 per week on all camps! Payment plan recipients that provide payment in full by June 12, 2015 will also be considered paid in full for the Early Bird Discount if set up and approved by April 24, 2015. SIBLING DISCOUNT* Sibling Discount applies only when both siblings are registered during the same weeks. Sibling Discount is 10% off and applies to the lowest-priced camp each applicable week. Sibling Discount does not apply to Early Arrival or Extended Day. SUMMER J-CAMP 2015 (ALL CAMPS) POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Registration: Registration is complete when all forms are returned to the Member Services Office and full payment has been made. Registrations will not be accepted unless the registrant’s Dwares JCC account is in good standing with no past due balances. Campers must register for the full camp session as listed, one or two weeks at a time. Once the child’s registration has been received, a packet will be sent to you containing forms that must be filled out prior to the start of camp. These forms are mandatory and no child will be permitted to attend camp if these forms have not been completed. Registration Deadline: Campers should be registered by 4:00pm on the Wednesday before the camp week starts. Families who register after this deadline will be charged the following late fees: • $25 if registration is received by 5:00pm of the Thursday prior to the start of camp. • $50 if registration is received by 12:00pm of the Friday prior to the start of camp. Registration for camp closes at noon of the Friday prior to the camp week. Verbal registrations/changes will not be processed. Registration Fee: A one-time, non-refundable family registration fee is required for each family registered (Fee: $60 | Members: $35). Registrations, including financial aid applicants, will not be accepted without payment of the fee. Member Rates: To receive member rates, the camper must be on a member account, which must be current with no past due balances and remain in effect through the end of the registered camp period. Those with summer memberships and full-time student memberships are eligible for member rates. The camper must be a Dwares JCC member to qualify for member rates. Financial Aid: Scholarships are available on a limited basis for those in need of financial assistance and are awarded at the sole discretion of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island. The scholarship application must be submitted online through FACTS when the camper’s registration and registration fee are submitted. Requests after May 1, 2015 will be considered on a funds-available basis. J-Camp scholarships are available to Dwares JCC members only. Contact the Member Services Office for more information and forms. J-Camp accepts DHS assistance for full-day Camp Yeladim, Camp K’Ton, and Camp Haverim. Additional payment may be required for extended care. Refunds: If there is a need to cancel a camper’s processed registration, tuition less the family registration fee and $75 per camp week will be refunded only if the cancellation is made by June 12, 2015. No credits or refunds of any kind will be made for any cancellations or changes made by the registrant for any reason after June 12, 2015. The Dwares JCC reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment. Registrants will be notified of any cancellation the Wednesday before the camp week begins. If the Dwares JCC cancels a camp week, a credit for the camp will be put on the camper’s Dwares JCC account to use towards future Dwares JCC programming. J-Camp T-Shirts: Each registered camper will receive one J-Camp t-shirt. Campers must wear camp shirts on field trip days. The cost of the t-shirt is included in the registration fee. Additional J-Camp t-shirts are available to purchase for $10 each. *Discounts may not be combined.

J-CAMP POLICIES & PROCEDURES (continued) Parents’ Manual, Communication, and Additional Forms: The Camp Haverim Office will email information to the parents of the registrant upon receipt of the registration form. Completed Emergency, Health History, and other forms must be returned to the J-Camp Office in order to complete the camper’s registration. No camper will be permitted to attend camp unless all required forms have been completed. All Camp Haverim families will get a parents’ letter the Friday before the camp week with a briefing of the week ahead. All communications, except for emergencies, will be via email. Please let us know if email is not a reliable way to communicate with you. Camp K’Ton and Camp Yeladim will mail forms to parents to be completed and returned to the ECC Office. Jewish/Israeli Programing: The Dwares JCC is a Jewish institution, however we recognize that not all families attending J-Camp are Jewish. Programing at the Dwares JCC focuses on universal human values such as acts of loving kindness, being our personal best, being part of a team, communal and social responsibility, gratitude and humility, guarding the earth, and treating others with respect and kindness. The Jewish Alliance is proud to host a Shaliach (Israeli Emissary who acts as a cultural bridge between Israel and the United States) at Camp Haverim. We believe that it is an important goal for both our campers and staff to learn, teach, and identify with Judaism and the State of Israel. We strive to build bridges between our local community and the Jewish community in Israel. As a result, we find the contribution of the Shaliach to be an invaluable step on the way to achieving that goal. The Shaliach brings many prepared activities to incorporate into the camp program. By simply being at camp and integrating into our community, campers have the opportunity to learn about Israel and her culture; in turn, campers teach our Shaliach about American culture. Shlichim participate in a special volunteer program through the Jewish Agency for Israel and complete a thorough background check and training. If you are interested in hosting our Shaliach during the camp season for two to three weeks at a time, please contact Seth Finkle at sfinkle@jewishallianceri.org to volunteer your home. Swim: Campers enjoy swim at designated times. Swim lessons are taught and monitored by American-Red-Cross-certified lifeguards. Camp counselors will be present during all swim periods. Campers in Camp Haverim will have swim lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and may sign up for free-swim as an elective. Towels will be provided. Field Trips: Thursday is Field Trip Day for Camp Haverim. Camp Havarim, Camp Yeladim, and Camp K’Ton may also plan additional field trips throughout the summer. Parental permission is required, and parents will be given notice in the weekly Parent’s Letter. Food Policy: A Kosher dairy/vegetarian lunch and two snacks will be served to all campers daily. Camp Haverim is not nutfree, but we have nut-free snacks on hand. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies. Camp Yeladim and Camp K’Ton provide a Kosher, dairy, nut-free lunch for all campers. Please do not send your child to camp with nuts or with foods containing nuts. Medication: All medication must be submitted to the camp office with a Permission to Dispense Medication form. Campers will not be permitted to carry their own medication. Medications will be administered by the camp staff, and a record of treatment will be kept. This includes over-the-counter and prescription medications for those under age 18, including volunteers and CITs.

The Dwares JCC offers financial aid on a limited basis to Dwares JCC members who hold annual memberships. All requests for financial aid are processed online though FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment at www.factstuitionaid.com. This process can take up to four weeks, therefore, it is recommended that you visit the FACTS website as soon as possible. Contact the Dwares JCC Member Services Office at 401.421.4111 or memberservices@jewishallianceri.org for further information. The Dwares JCC accepts DHS payments for Camp Yeladim, Camp K'Ton, and Camp Haverim. Additional payments are required for Specialty Camps and Early Arrival/Extended Care.

The Dwares JCC offers payment plans for J-Camp 2015. Payment Plan Forms are available at the Alliance Member Services Office.

If the Dwares JCC cancels any camp program, you will be notified of the cancellation by the Wednesday before the start of the camp. Every effort will be made to move your camper to another J-Camp program for that week. If another J-Camp program is not available, a credit will be issued to your Dwares JCC account.
