Did you know? The Dwares JCC is a division of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island... What is the Jewish Alliance? Today’s Alliance serves to enrich the quality of life for Jews in Rhode Island, in Israel, and around the world. The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island meets this goal through philanthropy, planning, education and wellness opportunities, community relations, and volunteer recruitment and training. The Alliance convenes agencies, synagogues, and organizations to address issues of common concern. Together, we transform Jewish tradition and values into action. Whether caring for people in need or nurturing and sustaining Jewish identity for future generations, this is where our community comes together as one; where we, as a community, develop innovative responses to critical, often life-threatening issues; where anyone who needs help can get it; where an energized Jewish community grows and celebrates; and where everyone, including you, can make a difference right now. The Jewish Alliance Annual Campaign raises money to support Jewish life in Rhode Island, in Israel, and across the globe. Honoring the Jewish values of compassion, generosity, and responsibility, our donors make it possible for us to fund more than 300 programs and services worldwide. To keep our community strong, we sustain the people who make it great – through every stage of life. Together, we give our children an excellent education that is built on a solid foundation of Jewish identity. We share Jewish culture so that who we are as a people will remain valued and relevant. We take care of the most vulnerable among us, including our seniors, by providing meals and emergency funding. We continue to fight anti-Semitism across the globe and assist Jewish communities, such as those in the Ukraine and Cuba, facing turbulence and upheaval. In addition to the Annual Campaign, which sustains our community from year to year, our Philanthropy Department also raise funds for major endeavors. One of those projects is Living on the Edge, our poverty initiative that helps those who are struggling to pay their bills and support their families. We are also in the midst of a capital campaign to renovate and modernize the Dwares JCC in order to continue serving the community. In all of these ways, and more, we are making a difference in the world. Learn more at jewishallianceri.org.

Aquatics
HEATED INDOOR POOL Immerse yourself in a variety of pool activities in our newly renovated, heated indoor pool, one of the few available to the public on the East Side of Providence. We have a variety of open swim times, as well as adult and gender-specific times. In late October, we will offer swim classes for all ages and swim levels through The Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy (see page 28). Swimming provides a different exercise format compared to more traditional forms of fitness activities. Water activities provide weightlessness and do not pull one down the same way a regular workout would. Water aerobics are easy on the joints and can even increase muscle strength and endurance due to the water's built-in resistance. Check the pool schedule to see our variety of water fitness classes in both shallow and deep water. Use of our pool during regularly scheduled swim times is FREE for members. Not a member? Dropin fee is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 13 years old. View our pool schedule and classes online at jewishallianceri.org or call the Aquatics office at 401.421.4111 ext. 153.

Coming to the Dwares JCC October 2015!
The Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy offers a learn-to-swim program for children of all ages. Started in 2005 by four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Lenny Krayzelburg, its "core purpose is to teach and inspire children to be water safe." Since its inception, they have taught thousands of children water safety and the importance of knowing how to swim. Using the SwimRight® Method, they utilize the swim-float-swim technique as a foundation and focus on providing children with the knowledge of confidence and safety in and around the water. Students progress from the beginning stages of swimming to learning all four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Starting as young as three months old, children learn to swim at their own pace. After a free evaluation, swimmers are assigned to a particular swim level. Students are then taught using the SwimRight® Method, which focuses on correct body positioning and alignment from the very beginning. Progress is recorded in a personal swim journal with the use of positive reinforcement and fun exercises. As each swimmer advances, he/she participates in safety tests to demonstrate his/her proficiency in their ability and technique. Using an exceptional education system designed around swimming fundamentals and emphasizing water safety, three types of lessons are offered: • Parent/Toddler Lessons (maximum enrollment: 8 per class) | 25 minutes • Group Lessons (maximum enrollment: 4 – 8 per class based on level) | 25 minutes • Private Lessons | 15 minutes We strongly suggest that students take at least one class per week, year-round. Consistency is one of the most important factors towards becoming proficient and gaining confidence in the water. Every swimmer must register for a free initial level evaluation. All of our instructors are certified in the SwimRight® Method. Academy Hours Sundays 10:00am – 12:00pm Mondays 4:00 – 7:00pm | Girls Only 7:00 – 8:00pm Tuesdays 1:00 – 7:00pm | Boys Only 7:00 – 8:00pm Wednesdays 4:00 – 7:00pm | Girls Only 7:00 – 8:00pm Thursdays 4:00 – 8:00pm | Boys Only Saturdays 10:30am – 12:00pm For information about the Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy at the Dwares JCC, contact London Blake, Aquatics Director, at 401.421.4111 ext. 153 or lblake@jewishallianceri.org.
