Babies, Toddlers & Preschoolers David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center The David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center (ECC) provides a safe, welcoming, child-centered educational setting infused with Judaic values for children 3 months through pre-kindergarten (4 years old by 9/1).

Our students explore their world and create their own experiences through a combination of teacher- and student-directed opportunities to allow for individual development. We offer a balance of free choice, socialization, science, math, literacy, creative arts, social studies, motor skills, and more. All children are welcome regardless of their religious and cultural backgrounds or their physical, social/emotional, and cognitive abilities.

The ECC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), BrightStars (Rhode Island’s tiered quality and rating service), and the Department of Children,Youth, and Families (DCYF).

We have a nurse on-site, and our entire staff is trained in first aid and CPR. Daily kosher vegetarian snacks and meals are included in the cost of tuition and are created in-house by our lead and assistant chefs.

Babysitting | Ages: 6 months – 6 years The Dwares JCC is offering babysitting from September 9 to December 22 in coordination with some of our fitness classes. This drop-in childcare service, supervised by our caring, experienced, and CPR/First Aid-certified staff, allows parents to exercise or take classes. Children may attend babysitting for up to two hours per day, on a first-come, first-served basis. Strict adult-to-child ratios are followed, so space is limited. A 24-hour advance reservation is strongly recommended to secure your child’s spot. Parent/guardian must remain on the Dwares JCC campus at all times. Our babysitting staff is not expected to change diapers or do feedings. Contact the Welcome Desk at 401.421.4111 ext. 152 to set up babysitting for your child. Price: $30 for a 10-stamp card. One stamp per family per visit.

PJ Library is a Jewish literacy and outreach program for families with young children ages 6 months through 8 years. Created by our partners at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) and supported through the Jewish Alliance Annual Campaign, PJ Library reaches out to Jewish families to foster curiosity about their heritage while exploring their Jewish identity. Every month in the mail, each participating child receives a free, high-quality Jewish book or CD representing an array of Jewish themes along with a guide to help families. Babies, Toddlers & Preschoolers Preschool Pottery Ages: 4 - 5 Children will explore their creativity by making unique clay projects while developing fine motor skills in our art studio.

Each week pottery participants will learn different techniques.

The skills taught are repeated session to session to help with mastery, but the project ideas are individualized. Children also have an opportunity to paint their pottery and then take it home. All clay and glazes are food safe. *Children who attend the ECC will be escorted to and from pottery.

Kids’ Night Out: Toddler/Preschool Edition Ages: 2 - 5

Calling all parents!

Kids’ Night Out is a chance for children to spend the evening with their friends in a fun and safe environment… and a great opportunity for parents to have a night out, “kid free!” Kids’ Night Out runs once a month on Saturday evenings. Each month children will be entertained with a variety of themed activities including sports, crafts, and more.

A pizza dinner and snacks will be served, and the evening will end with a movie.

Be sure to send your child with PJs as we end each evening with a movie. Don’t worry if your little one is sleepy; we have cozy cots where they can relax.

OM Kids Yoga: Downward Facing Puppies Ages: strong walkers - 3 Parents partner with their toddlers in this imaginative and FUN class. Creative movement, age appropriate yoga poses, songs, stories, props, and the OM Kids Puppet Family make this class a huge hit with the three and under crowd. Parents will love it, too, as they get in on the fun and stretching, and learn great tips and techniques to use at home. Caregivers are welcome.

Non-walking babies are allowed on our mats at no additional charge. Class is 45 minutes long.

Youth Karate Workshop Grades: 1 - 5 This workshop will focus on basic karate movements, discipline, honesty, respect, courage, and self-control. Large motor skills, such as kicking and punching, will be the basis for improvements in coordination and balance. Transition Care Grades: K - 5 Transition Care is a flexible after school option to complement enrichment classes offered at the Dwares JCC that are not included in our J-Space program. Children travel to the JCC with other children attending J-Space and then enjoy a healthy snack and free time before being escorted to their classes. Parents are expected to pick up their children from their enrichment class. Transition Care is not available on days when classes do not meet.

Snow Days Whenever possible, programming at the Dwares JCC will be offered on days when schools are closed due to weather or other circumstances. Hours will be based on operations of the Dwares JCC facility, which is usually 10:00am - 4:00pm. Prices are the same as a regular day of J-Cation Camp. Early Arrival is not available, and Extended Day/JSpace will run if the weather permits. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited spaces available. Students will make all sorts of goodies, from cookies to salsa.

They will practice knife skills and decorating techniques, and learn the science behind many recipes.

The GoPeer educational team consists of qualified Brown University and RISD students who make learning exciting and inspiring.

GoPeer provides group tutoring and homework help as part of our J-Space After School Program (see page 6 for more information).

Teen Membership Did you know we offer a standalone teen membership to the Dwares JCC? This membership provides access to a variety of special events, classes, fitness activities, and more! Teens who are part of a family membership are automatically included. Day passes are also available.

Teen members can take advantage of all the Dwares JCC has to offer including: Teen Fitness Leading a healthy lifestyle includes being involved in physical activity, and youth and teens are uniquely positioned to develop lifelong habits that can either help or hurt them as they grow.  A teen membership provides access to the following fitness-related activities. Special events are also planned sporadically throughout the year and will be posted on the teen bulletin board. If you would like to see something specific, let us know!

Gymnasium The gymnasium is available for teen members during after school, open gym hours to hang out, get some exercise, and play with friends. Teens must sign in and out at the Welcome Center and in the Teen Lounge upon arrival and departure. Teens may also sign out a basketball for use in the gym.

Fitness Center After completing the Youth and Teen Fitness Certification Program (details below), teen members are able to use the equipment on the fitness floor. Misuse of the equipment will result in revoked privileges and future use only with adult supervision.

Youth and Teen Fitness Certification Program Grades: 6+ This certification program is for teen members who wish to use the fitness center. Participants will learn how to use equipment safely and the principles of cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training. This one-session class is offered to members by appointment only and is approximately 2 hours long. It includes a lecture and discussion, demonstrations, and hands-on experience, and participants will receive a program manual.

One must pass a written test in order to obtain certification.

Tweens & Teens CPR/First Aid Grades: 6+ Sign up for this class and learn the skills taught by the American Red Cross to get certified in CPR and First Aid for Adults, Children, and Infants. You will receive a participant handbook and CPR mask, as well as learn the skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. Pottery & Sculpture 3 Grades: 6+ Students in this class will enhance their ability to hand build and will also practice the basics of throwing clay to create clay bowls, vases, and more. They will also slip cast and can experiment with some glazing techniques. Project choice will be student picked.

Women’s Olympic Weightlifting Club Ages: 18+ Olympic lifts are explosive, fullbody movements involving a combination of speed, balance, and strength. These lifts are the pinnacle of athletic performance.

Fit Forever Classes for Seniors 65+ Classes are a great place for seniors to connect with friends and meet new people. Our diverse instructors will stimulate your passion for exercise. Aquatics HEATED INDOOR POOL Dive into water activities and enjoy one of the few heated indoor pools available on Providence’s East Side. We provide water walking, aqua aerobics, family swim, adult lap swim, as well as adult and gender-specific times.

Our popular and successful learnto-swim program teaches infants through school-age children, as well as adults, confidence and safety in water. Swimmers can also continue on to high-level, competitive stroke improvement.

We offer a variety of water fitness classes in both the shallow and deep ends. Classes run for 45 minutes. Use of our pool during regularly scheduled swim times is FREE for members.

TigerSharks Swim Team Ages: 6 - 18 (Competitive) TigerSharks is entering its 8th season with the RIMA (Rhode Island/Massachusetts) League.

While focusing on stroke technique and endurance, swimmers have the opportunity to grow and succeed in a fun and competitive environment.

Swimmers are divided into two levels based on ability and endurance, which enables them to swim and progress in a positive manner. All participants must already have basic swimming skills.

Monday - Thursday (as many or as few practices as you like)

All children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by a parent in the water, and parents must remain in pool area while children are swimming. One or two lanes are reserved for lap swimming. Children using flotation devices must be directly supervised by an adult in the water.

Learn-to-Swim at the Dwares JCC with our swim program that utilizes an exceptional education system designed around swimming fundamentals and an emphasis on water safety. As young as 3 months, children learn to swim at their own pace. After a free evaluation, swimmers are assigned to a swim level based on the student’s personal needs.

Student lessons, which focus on correct body positioning and alignment, are taught by certified instructors. Improvement is recorded in the student’s progress book along with the use of positive reinforcement and fun exercises. As swimmers advance they participate in safety tests to demonstrate their proficiency in their ability and technique.

Our Learn-to-Swim program is year-round with no sessions; therefore, students may join at any time.

Group lessons are 25 minutes long, and private lessons are 15 minutes long. We strongly suggest that students take at least one class per week, year-round. Consistency is one of the most important factors that lead to becoming proficient and gaining confidence in the water.
