REPLACING DESPAIR

WITH DIGNITY There may be borders between us and our circumstances may vary. But when a child cries out in hunger – when a family is in financial need – when a community lies in ruin – the differences among us disappear. Our commitment to easing suffering is greater than anything that may seem to separate us from those in need. With your support, the Jewish Alliance is able to reach out in ways no one else can or will. Replacing despair with dignity. Offering hope where horror once reigned. We are doing what must be done to create a safer, more just world for everyone.

How does faith fit into my life? What does being Jewish mean? There are thousands of young people asking important questions – and every one counts. Your gift helps them explore the answers. Through Jewish day schools and camps, Birthright and gap-year trips to Israel, and PJ Library books, the next generation is connecting with their history and with one another‌

POWER & PROMISE

And we’re learning, too; learning how to modernize traditions to keep them relevant, while preserving their meaning. As young people awaken to the power and promise of their Jewish identity, our legacy is strengthened – and our world becomes kinder and more compassionate.

Our work impacts lives in more than 70 countries– strengthening Jewish life in countless ways. We’re powering connections between young people and Israel. Providing relief and respite to those in crisis. Offering comfort and support to the most vulnerable among us.

For Alan Temkin, a member of our community who is visually impaired: The Alliance provides opportunities for vital connections. Through our Living on the Edge initiative, Alan has access to transportation services, which he says is “very helpful.” Alan uses Access: Senior Transportation to attend personal appointments, the Senior Café kosher meal site, special events and High Holy Day services. Alan commented that the transportation service allows him to “be with other people and to have my independence.” And through a coordinated network of services, Alan benefits from our partner agencies, including help with the purchase of groceries and other essentials.

Alan reached out to us because he wanted you to know the impact of your donation.

For Valeriya Kvasha, an engineer and mother of three who fled war-torn Eastern Ukraine: The Alliance, through our core funding of JDC (American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee), afforded her a lifesaving support system. Her family received relocation aid including rental assistance, mental health services and a stocked apartment. This allowed Valeriya to stabilize her life and she now works to help other at-risk Jewish youth and families transition to safety.

For Ben Goodman, a member of Temple Beth-El and recent participant on a five-month gap year program in Israel: The Alliance provided access to courses at Tel Aviv University, including Ulpan and Israeli history and politics. Gap year programs fuse the ancient with the modern, giving participants a global perspective and a stronger understanding of Jewish peoplehood. The trip reconnected Ben to his Israeli family and allowed him to explore the country...

When there wasn’t any food left in the cupboard. When her husband passed away and she needed help returning to the workforce. When bankruptcy was their only option. When childcare was an obstacle to gainful employment. When she stopped showing up to the kosher meal site after surgery. When his father started showing signs of dementia.

Our Jewish traditions and values unite us in standing up against intolerance and protecting those who are vulnerable. Violent and threatening attacks increasingly target Jewish people and institutions — including here in Rhode Island, where we’ve witnessed a rise in anti-Semitic acts. Together, with our partners, we are helping to restore a sense of security in the face of hate.

STANDING UP

AGAINST

INTOLERANCE

The Alliance is sharing expertise and funding to keep our children and community safe. We are working with local law enforcement every day and will be assisting the Jewish community to safeguard their facilities. Together, we will stand up against hatred‌ Because the safety and security of everyone counts.

Sometimes it’s a cup of soup. A warm blanket or vital medicine. Someone to talk to when your world has been shattered. But sometimes it’s more... Sometimes it’s the difference between surviving and thriving. The Jewish Alliance helps strengthen, connect, inspire, empower, comfort, enrich and elevate. We provide for all – regardless of background or tradition – because as our teachings illustrate, everyone counts.
