Dear Friend, Our 2016 Campaign theme was “the POWER to make a DIFFERENCE,” and that very ideal was demonstrated by the generosity of our Jewish community. Donors like you are changing lives each and every day, year after year. Thanks to your support, we influence the future here in Rhode Island, in Israel, and around the world. But it is not only about how many dollars we’ve raised—it’s about the lives we touch. We’re connecting young families to each other and to the community, inspiring them to explore opportunities to participate in Jewish life through Jewish camping, PJ Library, and other networking opportunities. Through our Living on the Edge Initiative, we continue to create a community-wide safety net for the economically vulnerable, seniors, and many others who need support. We address today’s pressing needs, and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges, both locally and globally. We are shaping our future and creating a Jewish community filled with joy and meaning, purpose and engagement, philanthropy and activism—a community that will provide a strong Jewish identity for our children and grandchildren. Living on the Edge The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, with the support of Alan Hassenfeld, commissioned Brandeis University’s Steinhardt Social Research Institute to put together a report entitled Living on the Edge: Economic Insecurity among Jewish Households in Greater Rhode Island. The research showed that half of the Jewish households in communities served by the Alliance face economic difficulties. Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial Plans for the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial had been underway for more than ten years. Now, with input from Rhode Island’s remaining Holocaust survivors, the Memorial has been built in downtown Providence near the World War I and II Memorials as a place of learning, reflection, and remembrance. It honors the dead and celebrates the living —building a bridge from the past for young people and for all who seek insight, peace, and solace.
