Creative Assets Presentation

There are two main sources for NHM Creative Assets.

Image Bank

Our Image Bank contains a wealth of visual assets that have been selected as the most commercial from the Museum’s archives, spanning multiple categories such as dinosaurs, botanicals and insects. These are raw assets that vary in format and size ranging from photography to historic illustrations. There are over 9,000 images to choose from. Licensees are free to adopt and manipulate these assets for use on products.

Style Guides / Trend Packs

We also provide bespoke style guides for a targeted markets. These are toolkits of flexible graphics that focus on a variety of subjects including exploration, dinosaurs, the Museum architecture and natural science for kids. These are ‘ready to go’ graphics that have been developed alongside trend data to ensure relevance at retail and have been purposely created for product application.

NHM Dinosaurs Illustrations

Dinosaurs

Our collection of dinosaur illustrations features 17 different species to choose from with multiple poses, including skeletons, for the most popular species such as Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops and Stegosaurus. All graphics have a vector based keyline and feature a beautifully detailed Photoshop render. These illustrations were developed alongside Museum palaeontologists to ensure absolute accuracy. Landscapes also included representing all three time periods of the Mesozoic Era.

NHM Dinosaurs in London Trend Pack

Our latest dinosaur trend pack is a celebration of the Museum’s undeniable status as ‘the home of dinosaurs’ in London! A trend pack with a nod to travel, this new guide asks the question what if dinosaurs roamed around modern-day London? Utilising our dinosaur illustrations in multiple different styles, this guide has a contemporary palette and features many icons of London alongside the Museum’s fantastic array of dinosaurs.

NHM Blast from the Past Trend Pack

Our Blast from the past trend pack is a fun set of vector assets that demonstrates how to make great use of our dinosaur illustrations in a trend-driven and commercial way. This asset pack includes a mixture of compositions, badges and patterns featuring all the most popular dinosaur species from Tyrannosaurus and Spinosaurus to Deinonychus and Patagotitan, all perfect for creating engaging products for dinosaur lovers everywhere.

The NHM Dinosaur trend pack is a set of assets that show how to make use of our dinosaur illustrations in a trend-driven way. This toolkit features compositions and patterns that contain subtle educational elements whilst still be fun and engaging. Plant icons that existed during the Mesozoic Era are also included to allow for easy scene building. This guide can be used for both children and adult orientated products.

Night Creatures is a brand-new trend guide that delves into the secret world of nocturnal animals. For most of us, night-time is for sleeping, but for much of the animal kingdom, the night is when they come to life! From badgers and dormice to bats and owls, this new guide explores the mysterious lives of these incredible creatures that we so rarely get the chance to see in real life.

Adopting the same art style, this guide perfectly complements the existing Minibeasts style guide, providing further creative assets depicting British wildlife at its best

NHM Alphabet Composition Pack

The NHM Alphabet composition pack is a beautifully illustrated set of assets that together create an alphabet of natural history. From A-Z this pack contains some of the most recognisable species and elements from nature, whether a dodo, rhinoceros, jellyfish or quartz.

Delivered as both Photoshop textured files and flat colour vector files, all illustrations are flexible for use across both hard and soft goods.

NHM Children’s Style Guide

Children

The NHM Children’s style guide focused on a theme of exploration within four specific categories: explore the tropics, the plains, the oceans and the wilderness. This guide includes bears, eagles, insects, tropical birds, whales, penguins, dinosaur fossils and much more, providing a great sub-section of our Museum collections, all illustrated in a way perfect for children’s product ranges.

NHM Love Our Planet Trend Pack

Our Love Our Planet trend guide delivers positive messaging around sustainability, encouraging a love and respect for our natural world. Split across three different demographics, each design direction offers a unique stance on how we can all become advocates for the planet. Featuring empowering slogans, and with a little help from Hope the blue whale (our very own symbol of hope), this trend guide seeks to encourage everyone to take action to make a positive difference to the global future.

NHM Adult Style Guide

Our NHM Adult style guide is a book of patterns and compositions inspired by and created using a wide range of our historical visual assets. Spanning multiple categories including flora, insects, fossils and more, each graphic utilises our back catalogue of assets in a new and inspired way to create contemporary prints that reflect the Museum’s vast collection of specimens.

NHM Botanicals Guide

The NHM Botanicals Guide is a celebration of just some of the beautiful botanical artworks that are held within the Museum’s vast collection. This guide seeks to place a spotlight on these historically significant artworks with a fresh, contemporary context. Hidden within each design, you’ll find creatures from across the globe, highlighting the wonderful diversity of the natural world.

NHM Cathedral to Nature Style Guide

The NHM Cathedral To Nature style guide celebrates the architectural detailing that makes the Natural History Museum such a unique building. Each of the five creative routes magnifies different aspects; the geometric patterning, the ornate creatures, the terracotta palette, the intricate detailing and the cathedral-like grandeur. This iconic structure embodies our knowledge of natural history through its collections but also within its structure, providing a perfect canvas for developing product inspired by nature.

NHM Werner’s Nomenclature of Colour Guide

The NHM Werner’s Nomenclature of Colours style guide is a celebration of the indispensable taxonomic guide that was first published in 1814 and has been cherished by naturalists for over two centuries. Every colour in this guide evokes a vision of the natural world and uses elegant descriptions from the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms to provide a practical guide to colour. This book inspired our award-winning paint collection with Farrow & Ball.

In addition to our style guides, we have also developed trend drops whereby a limited number of designs focused on a specific theme are created for use on products. For this batch, the theme is centred on the early computer graphic look known as 8-Bit and applying this to our most iconic dinosaurs.

Trend Drops

In addition to our style guides, we have also developed trend drops whereby a limited number of designs focused on a specific theme are created for use on products. For this batch, the theme centres on the enormous Patagotitan mayorum, the epic dinosaur on display as part of the Museum’s exhibition Titanosaur: Life as the Biggest Dinosaur.

In addition to our style guides, we have also developed trend drops whereby a limited number of designs focused on a specific theme are created for use on products. For this batch, the theme centred on pollinators including the bumblebee, beetle, moth and butterfly to highlight just how important and precious these incredible species are.
