Downgrade Firmware on printers that use HP 905 & 955 series inkjet cartridges

HP 905 & 955 DOWNGRADE

Solution to lower chip rejection on HP 905 & 955 series printers while we wait on new chips to be released.

V6 chips for 955XL developed and about to ship V6 chips for 905XL still in development.

Links can’t be used for the printers manufactured after May ,2019 !

Example: This printer was made on the 9th May 2014

Examples: CN949 = April 2019 OK to run downgrade CN959 = May 2019 Don’t bother to run downgrade

Step 1. Before starting the Firmware Downgrade process.

Ensure you turn off “Automatically Update Check� function before runing the downgrade. See previous alert. How to turn off Auto updates.

Note: Some downgrades will not work if your printer firmware is already updated to newer version than listed below.

Step 2. Choose your printer and downgrade version.

Please choose the indicated software to downgrade the firmware according to your printer model and current firmware version

Step 3. Downgrade.

Make sure your printer is connected to the computer with USB cable, open the suitable firmware downgrade software..

After detection, the HP update notice splash screen will be shown as per the image below. ( HP 8710 as an example)

Choose the printer that needs to be downgraded and click “Update”

As the printer is downgrading, notices are shown on the computer screen and the printer’s control panel

Click “OK� after the downgrade is finished

The firmware version after downgrade will be shown as below

Restart or check the printer. The cartridges that were being rejected should now register and you can continue to print and save money.
