PRE-OWNED PILATUS MARKET: WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW CAN HAUNT YOU

EXPERT INSIGHT
WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW CAN HAUNT YOU October is the season of ghost stories, urban legends, and things that go bump in the night. In the aircraft market, scary stories are everywhere. “Inventory is disappearing.” “Q4 is a seller’s market.” “Everything good trades off-market.” But some market narratives are more trick than trend. Instead of relying on what we’re hearing, let’s look at what we’re seeing. TRICK OR TREND? Inventory is Disappearing At first glance, this one feels true. Inventory did vanish during the summer months. At the end of June, there were 80 PC-12s available. By the end of July, inventory had fallen to just 61 aircraft, creating the appearance of an aggressively tightening market. But when we look beneath the surface, the story becomes much more interesting. The decline wasn’t driven by a sudden surge of new buyers alone. It was fueled by an unusually low number of new listings entering the market. In fact, the number of new listings declined every month from March through August. June saw: • 8 new listings • 15 aircraft sold • Net inventory change: -7 aircraft July was even more dramatic: • 5 new listings • 18 aircraft sold or removed • Net inventory change: -13 aircraft For a brief period, aircraft were leaving the market much faster than new inventory could replace them. But markets change quickly, and August and September brought a reversal–with more aircraft entering the market than leaving it. By the end of September 2026, inventory had climbed back to 74 aircraft. The market isn’t disappearing; it’s reloading. If current trends continue, we expect approximately 40 additional aircraft to be listed before year-end, while roughly 50 aircraft could sell during the same period. Inventory may remain relatively tight, but the

data suggests we’re far from running out of airplanes. Perhaps demand is the culprit? Verdict: Trick. TRICK OR TREND? Q4 Is a Seller’s Market This one may actually have some teeth. Looking at market performance between 2021 and 2025, aircraft sold during the fourth quarter averaged 21 fewer days on market than aircraft sold during the rest of the year. Even more interesting, average sale prices were approximately 2.5% higher in Q4, that’s a cool $100k or more on a $4.5m aircraft! Every September the company CFO comes down the hall and says “Well, we are having a good year, so if we’re going to buy an aircraft, we had better do it now…” Consequently, this translates to not only buyers, but serious buyers–and they’re looking to complete acquisitions before year-end, often move more decisively. Sellers benefit from these motivated buyers, pricing rises, and transactions gain serious momentum heading into December. The strongest seasonal effect is seen in the PC-12 NGX, where aircraft have historically traded at roughly 4% higher values during Q4. That premium helps elevate overall fourth-quarter pricing averages across the market. While every aircraft is unique, the historical data suggests there is legitimate seasonality in the market. The hidden “X” factor secret: low engine time has a premium value in the market today. We could spend an entire article on this sub-topic, but safe to say, if an aircraft has low engine time, the seller is asking a premium+ for it. Verdict: Trend. TRICK OR TREND? Everything Good Trades Off-Market The phrase gets repeated so often that many buyers assume the best aircraft never make it to public listings. This is classic “Brokerville” talk. At JetSwiss, we already have a relationship with both the buyer and the seller in 82% of our projects. AND,
M A R K E T AT A G L A N C E
over 52% of our projects never see the light of ‘retail’ whatsoever. So, yes, “off market” does exist, but in our case it’s because of our high level of specialization in Pilatus. Exceptional aircraft can transact through private networks, referrals, and direct owner relationships. But the notion that every premium aircraft bypasses the public market simply isn’t supported by the data. Great aircraft sell both on-market and off-market. What matters most isn’t whether an aircraft was publicly listed. It’s whether you knew it existed. Hint: sign up for help and you’ll be the first person with a “backstage” pass….
Verdict: More Trick than Treat. WHAT’S LURKING OFF-MARKET? By definition, off-market activity is difficult to see. These transactions leave a ghost trail, and most market participants only get pieces of the story. That’s where information becomes a competitive advantage. Because in aviation, what you don’t know can absolutely haunt you. Fly safe, The JetSwiss Team

YOUR PLACE IN THE PILATUS MARKET The Pilatus Value Ranking (PVR)
ORIGINAL SALE PRICE
DEPRECIATION SCHEDULES EQUIPMENT UPGRADES
During the market boom of 2021 and 2022, each transaction seemed to surpass the last, making it difficult to determine whether an aircraft’s price represented its actual value. So we set out to establish a system that would rank the entire market utilizing components and a weighting system that depicted actual market conditions and behavior, hence the Pilatus Value Ranking (PVR) was born. Our proprietary algorithm weighs factors to show exactly where an aircraft stands against its competition. The #1-ranked aircraft isn’t necessarily the right aircraft for you. It simply represents the best value when looking at the market in a vacuum.

FOR BUYERS
The PVR helps identify strong value, uncover opportunities that may otherwise be overlooked, and make better-informed decisions.
FOR SELLERS
The PVR shows how your aircraft competes in the current market, helping inform pricing, positioning, and marketing strategy.

K E E P Y O UR F O R E C A S T FRES H JP calls weather ‘highly perishable.’ Just because you looked at the forecast yesterday, or even an hour ago, doesn’t mean it hasn’t changed. “When you’re in a route, continue to look at that weather and see if any changes are happening while the airplane’s moving,” JP says. The lesson: Safe flying means continually evaluating conditions before departure and throughout the flight and adjusting plans as conditions evolve.
FLIGHT OR FRIGHT 5 Weather Lessons Every Pilot Should Know
Weather is one of aviation’s greatest hazards, but also the most avoidable. We sat down with meteorologist, full-time corporate pilot, flight instructor, and Fox Weather’s aviation contributor, JP Dice, to talk about weather in aviation. From the studio to the cockpit, JP has spent decades studying weather, giving him a unique perspective on how pilots deal with, interpret, and plan for weather. According to JP, there are five lessons every pilot can carry into the cockpit. 9
LEAVE THE NAVIGATING TO US ®
T R US T T HE T O O L S A N D KNOW T HE I R L I M I T S The pilots today have access to an unprecedented amount of information and technology - ADS-B weather, onboard radar, satellite weather, etc. “The situational awareness that you now have in an airplane is unlike it’s ever been before.” JP says. “There is absolutely no reason to launch into something and not know what’s going on.” Although this technology can make things safer, it shouldn’t replace judgement. JP says NEXRAD radar data is delayed, so what you’re seeing with the XM or ADS-B weather, could be 20 minutes old. That’s why relying on one source can create a false sense of security.
T H I S M O N T H ’ S F E AT U R E
The lesson: JP encourages pilots to build both the strategic picture (what the weather is doing across the route) and the tactical picture (what’s happening immediately around the airplane). Extra bit: One tool that JP recommends is the RadarScope app. “It gives you single-site NEXRAD, quarterkilometer resolution, it’s really detailed.”
While thunderstorms can often be seen and navigated around, icing has the potential to develop quickly and can significantly disrupt airflow and reduce lift. Even aircraft equipped with ice protection systems can become overwhelmed. The lesson: Watch out for icing. Just because you have an ice protection system doesn’t mean you can put it on the back burner.
PL A NE F OR B AN D C
F O C US O N F L Y I N G
One of JP’s biggest philosophies is simple: Have a Plan B. Then have a Plan C.
JP says if an unexpected situation occurs, focus on flying the airplane.
The forecast might not always be exactly correct: it could be icier than expected, storms move, winds shift. JP says “You never want to back yourself into a corner.”
“When we get spooked by something, or we have something that really gets our adrenaline going, kind of a fight-or-flight deal, we go into a primal instinct and stop thinking. And that’s when you run into problems.”
Whether it’s carrying additional fuel, identifying alternate airports, or simply delaying a departure by an hour to let a weather system pass, having a Plan B and C in place creates options if or when conditions change. The lesson: Being flight-ready means always leaving yourself an out. Asking yourself questions to plan for your backup plans will help you stay prepared for the worst: 1. 2. 3.
What are my alternate plans? How much extra fuel do I have? If this weather develops faster than expected, what’s my exit?
JP refers to this fight-or-flight reaction as ‘lizard brain’ and says it’s very important to avoid it. Focus on flying the airplane. “Don’t take something that’s a nonemergency and turn it into an emergency.” The lesson: Whether you’re flying a short mission or crossing the country in a PC-12, weather will always be part of your mission. JP’s advice isn’t to fear it, it’s to understand it. JP teaches seminars across the country, writes aviation weather articles, and posts educational videos for pilots. To learn more about safe flying, visit JP’s YouTube channel, Beyond the Briefing, or his aviation articles.
DO N’T UNDEREST I MAT E I CI N G C ONDIT IO N S Lightning strike–concerning. But what’s more concerning than thunderstorms? “Icing scares me more,” he says.
