Nurturing Women’s Dreams Through Love, Learning, and Spirit
Annual Report 2024
“The Future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
-Eleanore Roosevelt
Caroline Center serves as a pivotal gateway for women, guiding them through their career paths, educational journeys, and towards a brighter future. Over 4,000 women have passed through our doors, marking the beginning of their healthcare education and immersing themselves in new knowledge, hope, and determination. Even after graduation, they invest further in their growth by pursuing additional educational opportunities. Guided by the principles of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND), we remain committed to their values and the belief that empowering women through education fosters meaningful and lasting change. Your generous support profoundly impacts these women as they envision a brighter future for themselves and their families. Our Academic and Career Advancement (ACA) scholarships enable our graduates to extend their education beyond the initial 15-week programs and open doors to future possibilities. With our new BuildHer: Women in Construction Training Initiative, women are offered a chance to explore careers in trade industry. With the continued support of our donors, contributors, and readers like you, we will keep nurturing their dreams of educational ambition.
Our Mission
Caroline Center’s mission is to empower each woman to reach the fullness of her potential so that she can create a future of hope for herself and her family.
From Our Board & Executive Director
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As we reflect on the past year, we are filled with immense pride and gratitude for the strides we have made together. It is with great pleasure that we present to you our annual report for the year, themed “Nurturing Women’s Dreams Through “Love, Learning, and Spirit.” This theme embodies our unwavering commitment to empowering women and fostering their growth in every aspect of their lives.
Love has been the cornerstone of our work. It is through the genuine care and encouragement from our community—whether it be our staff, volunteers, or supporters—that we have been able to create a nurturing environment where women feel valued and supported. In alignment with SSND’s belief that educating a woman transforms the world, this love fosters confidence and resilience, empowering each individual to pursue her dreams with courage, hope, and the conviction that she can effect lasting change in her community and beyond.
Learning represents the transformative educational opportunities we provide. By equipping women with the skills and knowledge they need, we empower them to overcome barriers and seize new opportunities. Our programs are designed to be both impactful and accessible, ensuring that every woman has the tools she needs to succeed in her personal and professional life.
Spirit captures the essence of the perseverance and inner strength that we celebrate in the women we serve. It is the spirit of determination and optimism that drives our mission forward and inspires us daily. This spirit is reflected in the stories of triumph and progress that fill the pages of this report, showcasing the resilience and potential that are at the heart of our work.
The pages of this report will take you through our achievements, the lives we have touched, and the impact of your support. Each story shared reflects the essence of our theme—showcasing how love, learning, and spirit have been central to the journeys of the women we serve. We are proud to share their stories with you, as they are a testament to the transformative power of our collective work.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible staff, volunteers, partners, and donors. Your unwavering support and dedication have been the bedrock of our success. It is your belief in our mission that fuels our drive and passion to make a difference.
As we look to the future, we are excited about the new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We remain committed to our vision of nurturing dreams and fostering growth, and we are confident that, with your continued support, we will achieve even greater milestones.
Thank you for being an integral part of this journey. Together, we are making a profound difference in the lives of countless women, and for that, we are profoundly grateful.

Caroline Center is proud to honor our cherished friend and former colleague, the late Jackie Buedel. Jackie played a pivotal role in initiating and nurturing our Academic & Career Advancement (ACA) Program over a decade ago. Her dedication has enabled our ACA scholarships to provide essential financial support for graduates pursuing advanced certifications and degrees, fostering career growth and upward mobility in healthcare.
Jackie’s unwavering commitment to Caroline Center’s mission and the women we serve is evident through her work, and her legacy continues through the ACA program she established. By supporting our ACA scholarship program, you will help women each year achieve advanced certifications and degrees, enhancing their lives and those of their families.
We have numerous scholarships to which you can donate that will contribute to our graduates’ educational futures including:
The Moving Forward Nursing School Scholarship is designed to support Caroline Center alumni pursuing advanced education in nursing. This scholarship is intended to help cover tuition and related expenses for women who have completed their initial training at Caroline Center and are seeking to advance their medical careers. It aims to provide financial assistance to those who have demonstrated commitment and potential in their field.
Patience Laryea, a Caroline Center alum who completed her CNA training, is now a recipient of the Moving Forward Nursing School Scholarship, funded by a group of anonymous donors to support Caroline Center graduates in pursuing a college-based nursing degree in Maryland. Now that she has finished her summer classes, Patience is making significant strides toward her nursing career. Currently she’s enrolled in several fall courses, including Psychology and Biology, and is committed to receiving her degree in Nursing. Her evident dedication and recent achievements showcase her remarkable perseverance and passion for her career.

A Generous Year of Giving Highlights
As we reflect on this past year, our hearts are filled with deep gratitude for the love, support, and spirit that have nurtured our mission and empowered us to create lasting change in the lives of women . The generosity of our community has been a powerful testament to how learning, dedication, and belief in women’s dreams can shape brighter futures. Here are some of the highlights from this remarkable year:
On June 13, 2024, we gathered at the Mansion at Valley Country Club for our annual fundraiser, “Scrubs on a Mission.” With 186 friends of Caroline Center by our side, we united in Planting Seeds for Women’s Education . Together, we grossed over $103,000— funds that will go directly toward nurturing the dreams of the women we serve in Baltimore City.
Throughout the year, Caroline Center partnered with local businesses to host a series of “friendraisers,” where friends came together to enjoy evenings at Gertrude’s, Union Craft Brewing, Verde Pizza, and more. These community gatherings grossed over $2,800 and reminded us of the power of shared spirit in lifting up our mission to empower women.
We are profoundly grateful to our 303 active benefactors and the 83 new supporters who invested with love and generosity in the dreams of our students this year.
On Giving Tuesday, November 28th, we raised $4,980 through the outpouring of donations from our caring community.
In January 2024, with a $174,000 grant from the Daughters of Charity Ministries, Inc., we launched “BuildHer,” a pre-apprenticeship training program. In partnership with the Baltimore-Washington Buildings and Trades Council and the Maryland Center for Construction Education & Innovation (MCCEI), we prepared women for promising careers in the trades. The program includes four weeks of Essential Skills and Math for Construction training, followed by pre-apprenticeship training at a union location.
None of this could be achieved without the boundless love, dedication, and support of our donors, volunteers, staff, sponsors, and partners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for believing in our mission and nurturing the dreams of the women we serve.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to deepening our impact, expanding our reach, and continuing to build a brighter tomorrow. Together, through love, learning, and spirit, we will nurture the dreams of women and create a future filled with hope and opportunity.
Thank you for contributing to the success of this year’s Scrubs on a Mission fundraising event! We deeply appreciate the dedication of our event sponsors, board of trustees, special events committee, and the many staff and community volunteers who helped make the event so enjoyable. Thanks to the combined proceeds from Scrubs on a Mission 2024 and other event-related income, your generous support helped us raise over $103,000 for Caroline Center programs.
