SUSTAINABILITY IN BEAUTY COP26 has been the main focus for the world over the past few weeks and there is no doubt sustainability and environmental concerns impact our sector as much, if not more, than some other industries.

While the impact will undoubtedly fall largely on the manufacturing sector, it is still very clear that it is up to each and every one of us to do our bit and no longer an option to leave it up to big industry.

Our CEO Lesley Blair represents BABTAC on the Advisory Body of the Sustainable Beauty Coalition (SBC), set up by the British Beauty Council – who were present at COP26 and hosted a side event in Glasgow with an informative Planet Positive Webinar. If you missed this you can still view it on

UK NIGHTCLUB URGES BUSINESSES TO ROLL OUT MENOPAUSE POLICY The Night Owl, a Birmingham and London-based independent nightclub renowned for its soul and retro music, is urging businesses across the UK to join its pledge in tackling stigma and prejudice in the workplace surrounding the menopause.

A

lthough there is no legal requirement to protect employees experiencing menopause symptoms*, The Night Owl is ensuring it provides an inclusive and supportive working environment for all staff members.

Patricia Colden, HR specialist from Burley Law who provides services for The Night Owl, said:

“The menopause is a natural part of every woman’s life. It isn’t always an easy transition and can be a significant issue in the workplace for those affected.

Each symptom has the potential to affect an employee’s comfort and performance at work.

“We know that implementation of this policy is the right thing to do for The Night Owl’s current and future team members.”

While symptoms related to menopause vary greatly, they commonly include hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety, dizziness, fatigue, memory loss, depression, mood swings, panic attacks, insomnia, headaches, reduced concentration, and heavy periods.

Colden continues: “Without these types of policies in place, businesses risk losing valuable employees whose maturity and experience are key to their teams and departments.

Handling patient data in a professional way is still something that is regulated by law and complying to this is essential for aesthetic businesses.

Brands are taking notice of consumers looking to be more ethical in their wider lives – 82% of new vegan products that were launched in 2020 were beauty products.

Caffeine Caffeine has been used for years in skincare and beauty products. It’s renowned for its ability to tighten up skin, meaning it’s a great ingredient for eye creams as well as body moisturisers. You can also find caffeine in newer beauty items like gradual tan lotions, where it offers tightening benefits alongside a golden tan.

Vegan beauty swaps Some of our favourite beauty ingredients aren’t vegan.

But you don’t need to worry – there are plenty of swaps you can make to incorporate vegan-friendly ingredients into your beauty routines.

Swap retinol for bakuchiol Retinol, and its variations, is regarded as one of the most effective skincare ingredients out there. The vitamin A derivative encourages cell turnover in skin, which means churning out healthy, plump, new skin and reducing signs of premature ageing. But it’s a form of vitamin A that can only be found in animals, so it’s not vegan-friendly.

Bakuchiol, a plant-derived alternative, is soaring in popularity thanks to promising studies that show it could have the same effects as retinol. So if you’re obsessed with the results you get from your retinol, give bakuchiol a go.

Swap squalane for…squalane Squalane is an underrated ingredient in skincare and beauty. It mimics our skin’s natural oils, making it an amazing option for dry skin babes because their skin doesn’t produce enough oil. Its similarities to our skin’s oils mean it won’t overwhelm oily skin either.

Squalane has traditionally come from shark liver, but now plant-based formulas have been developed so you can reap the benefits of this nourishing ingredient without harming any sea life. Other popular hydrating ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, now also have vegan versions thanks to a surge in demand for vegan beauty.

Since becoming involved in F45 when they opened their first studios in Australia, Jordan has had the best experience he could have imagined, with HQ providing him with the essential training on how to provide exceptional service to F45 members.

His life has changed dramatically throughout his time as an F45 Franchisee, and his day-to-day is never the same. He works across 4 different countries and multiple time zones, which means that his schedule is jam-packed and unpredictable.

Even with all the travel, Jordan ensures that he trains every day, no matter where he is, whilst making the most of having an incredibly strong team who helps him keep the business thriving.

Jordan hopes that his success as a franchisee will continue to grow throughout Australia, the US, Canada, and the UK. He is proud to be focussed on bringing exceptional workouts to communities across the globe and helping people change their lives.
