*** NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP CORPORATION

*** ACT PERFECT SCORES

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) underwrites the annual prestigious scholarship competition which recognizes some 16,453 Semifinalists, who represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. The NMSC designates Semifinalists on a state representational basis to ensure that outstanding students from across the country are included in the talent pool. The number of Semifinalists named in each state is in proportion to its percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

In 2021, six students earned the highest possible composite score of 36 on the ACT®. Fewer than half of one percent of students who take the ACT® earn a top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2021, only 4,055 out of nearly 1.3 million students who took the ACT® earned a top composite score of 36.

Jesuit’s 25 National Merit Semifinalists represent 11% of Louisiana’s 234 honorees. The qualifying test score for this year was 213. Scores for Blue Jay Semifinalists ranged from 213 to 227. The scores of “Commended” Blue Jays ranged from 207 to 212. In the past 16 years, 478 Blue Jays have been honored as National Merit Semifinalists. Complete information about the competition is on the NMSC’s website: www.nationalmerit.org.

*** COLLEGE BOARD NATIONAL RECOGNITION In Jesuit’s Class of 2022, two seniors were honored as National African American Scholars, and six seniors and two juniors were honored as National Hispanic Scholars. The College Board National Recognition Programs create pathways to college for students from underrepresented communities by awarding them academic honors and connecting them with universities across the country. Complete information about the NHRP is on the College Board’s website: www.collegeboard.org.

Additionally, five students earned a “superscore” of 36 on the ACT®. A superscore is different from the traditional composite score in that it is the average of the student’s best scores from each subject from multiple test attempts. A composite score is the average of the four subject scores from a single ACT® test attempt. Complete information about the ACT® is on the ACT® website: www.act.org.

*** COLLEGE BOARD AP SCHOLARS In 2021, 62 students earned the designation of AP Scholar from the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams. AP tests are scored on a scale of 1-5. The AP Scholar designation recognizes students who earned scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. The AP Scholar with honor designation recognizes students who earned an average of 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams. The AP Scholar with distinction designation recognizes students who earned an average score of 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scored 3 or higher on five or more AP exams. Complete information about AP Scholars is on the College Board’s website: www.collegeboard.org.
