A Note from the Editor-in-Chief...
A
common thread in the images found within the pages of this magazine are the photography-
related products (actions, overlays, textures, presets) used by artists in order to fulfill their artistic vision. In a world where some vendors like to advertise that their products "do it all" for photographers, mine are designed to work as a partnership and collaboration among artists. My products are designed to be complete, yet open-ended. They are customizable and tweak-able, so that an artist can use them a little — or a lot. They can be integrated at the beginning of an edit, as a finishing touch or throughout the entire editing process. The choice is yours — and that is intentional. I use my own actions and overlays, not because I can't (or don't also) hand-edit, but because they add a certain something or speed my workflow. Like a bookmark, they help me get to where I want to go a little faster and make it easier for me not to forget what I did to get there in the first place. The same can be said for other images found within the pages of this magazine.

magazine, please know that even though a product may be mentioned, it was just a part in the artist's overall process. Some images use a lot of my products, some use just a little. One thing that every image contains is the artist's vision and their own decisions. In viewing the art, please know that hand edits are always a part of the process and tweaks may have been made by the artists to the products shown.

Lisset Perrier Jessica Drossin: Lisset, I've known you for a long time — you've even attended one of my workshops! One of my favorite things about your work is that you consistently find new ways to share new stories with your art. What inspires you?
Before
Lisset Perrier: My childhood, both my children and nature inspire me. I enjoy making new projects specially for children. I’m not looking for the best-selling images, but for the best themes. The more I work, the more inspired I get. It acts like a kind of loop. It feels like inspiration leads to more inspiration. I always keep my eyes open because inspiration can come from anywhere, and when it does, it comes suddenly. One day you might be watching a movie or just reading a book, and then a spark will go off in your head, saying, “Hey! That would make a great subject for a photo shoot!” I sketch my ideas in a notebook that I always have with me for this kind of thing. I also like I like to read the movie titles and think, “How would I have made that cover differently?” and then I go and do it. We are constantly surrounded by color, light, products, nature, and media, and most of my ideas are formed from my experiences, mood, and interactions with these things.
JD: How do you keep your kids excited and willing to participate in photos? So many photographers' kids get burned out! LP: I grab something they love. My kids love to role play in costume. So, if they aren’t having it when I’m trying to shoot, I’ll have them play out a scene in their costumes. It’s a win-win. They love it, and I get pictures like this one that reminds me of what they were into at the time, and then I let them perform for me to capture genuine emotion and photos that are true to them. JD: What is your favorite season to shoot in? LP: I really don’t have a favorite season. I think my photography goes more with feelings and mode. The connection between weather and mood, seasonal changes in light and temperature can play a major role in how we think, feel, and behave. Probably, I prefer cloudy days if I am inspired, or fall days if I want to feel the wind and breeze, summer if I want to hear the waves of the sea, and spring - it's beautiful for me, especially when I am scouting locations with flowers.

JD: Lisset, I know you have mad photoshop skills with your own hand-editing, so I'm curious, what products are your favorites? LP: I love your products. Specifically, textures like JD Painterly Textures and JD Beautiful World Textures. They are a perfectly fit for fine art portraits and creative edits. If you are in the mood for something different and unique, my pick would be JD Special Effects: Nevermore Raven Overlays & More Macabre Ravens. They are both realistic and magical. I have included many of your products in my work, especially for composites. I also really love JD Leafy Top Overlays and JD Special Effects: Rose Petal Overlays. If photographers and artists want to change the mood of their photography, I always recommend your products — they are the best in the market and super easy to use!

Amy Medina is the reason the Beautiful World Group exists. Years ago, I barely knew Amy. She approached me, asking if I had a Facebook group where users could share their art. I didn't, so she volunteered to help me set one up. She helped me to create and shape the group's values and demeanor, and now, regularly wows us with her sensitive, artistic seascapes. Amy has graciously volunteered to share the editing steps behind some of her favorite images!

1. Lowered highlights and raised shadows in ACR 2. Warm Dimension Soft Sunset and Golden Sky fill to add the color back in that I saw on location. 3. Hand edit dodging and burning painting in curves adjustments 4. A Little Blue Overlay added only to mid-tones to keep it subtle and add dimension.

1. Raised shadows and lowered highlights in Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) 2. Warm Dimension from Foundations. I use this on almost all my landscapes, it's a standard in my workflow. 3. Brood Texture overlay with texture blurred out with a gaussian blur filter. Hand dodging and burning by painting in curves adjustments. 4. Blue Light Special instant overlay for some cool toned lightscaping.

Deirdre Lewis Assistant Editor, Beautiful World Magazine I have been a photographer for the past 12 years professionally, but have always been drawn to photography – my father and grandfather both loved photography, and I guess the bug just passed on to me! I am based in the greater St Louis area, and am a mother of four kids. I enjoy doing both lifestyle photography and fine art photography – it’s hard for me to just settle on one or the other. I leapt at the opportunity when Jessica was looking for help with putting the magazine together because I find her Beautiful World group and the magazine to be so incredibly inspiring; it is easily one of my favorite places to lose track of time and scroll through. I am so grateful to be a part of putting it together! When asked to choose a couple of images to feature in this month’s magazine, I decided to pick two that were on the darker side, since Halloween is coming up and there is usually so much amazing creativity put into dark or spooky images. I find both of these images to be Rolfe and beautifully lit and well composed. You can tell that the artists putDesirée a lot of thought planning into crafting these, and they draw me into the story being told.
