Slab-ume

In collaboration with Jessica Huang

This mixed use building includes a wide range of program, prioritizing two gymnastics halls. Among other athletic needs, this building also includes educational spaces; classrooms, library, and lecture hall, and residential spaces. With a wide range of program comes many user groups and overlapping of program. Our building concept is to allow for the overlapping and mixing of spaces to allow these varying user groups to interact and intertwine, allowing for more opportunity to spectator, learn and succeed.

Casa del Architettura

In collaboration with Emily Yuen

Casa Del Architectura is an architecture school extension to the Villa Rosa (the Syracuse University building in Florence). Inspired by the brick country house plan, the building extends out into the surroundings to bring people into the campus, which is currently walled off. All of the program occurs between the walls or within the thickness of the walls. At the center of the pinwheel is a garden, which is a large part of the campus currently, but is closed off. By having this be the center point it becomes a space for the community and allows students to be immersed in the Italian culture.

Broad Channel Neighborhood

In collaboration with Nitya Charugundla

Broad channel is a small community in Jamaica Bay, Queens, NY that is highly at risk to coastal flooding due to sea level rise and storm surges. Although highly effected by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the community is attached to this place and their current coastal lifestyle. Hoping to preserve this way of life, this compacted community living project is arranged like a fortress where the outer walls are bermed up, protecting from coastal flooding yet allowing for access to the water, while the inside remains proteced and free to host community activities.

Piazza Installation

In collaboration with Emily Yuen

This intervention in Piazza Santo Stefano in Bologna, is a satirical critique of the modern use of piazzas as well as “instagram-designed”spaces. Today, when entering a popular piazza, tourists flood the open space trying to get pictures and selfies with or in front of whatever church or building the piazza supports. This egg shaped “selfie machine” takes over the center of the piazza as a large white wall. Once you enter, the space becomes a colorful scene filled with mirrored columns, making this unintended selfie space a designed space for self absorption.

Willow Tree Farm This willow farm, lab and park is a campus where willow trees are grown, harvested and studied by the students from SUNY ESF. Looking at the surrounding area and infrastructure in the area there are two forms of transportation; roads and waterways. The project is divided into two main programatic groups; public and research. Public program is connected by a winding park system, while the research has more direct circulation for efficiency. The program happens within circular pods where they can be seperate or begin to bleed into each other allowing for public curiosity and education.

Reclaiming Boston Architecture always impacts nature. Architecture also has the ability to control the way in which one perceives nature in similar ways to that of landscape design and painting of the western world. However, this can only be experienced by those of a certain privileged or class. Others experience the much less beautiful, rugged reality in terms of living with nature. In 2020 Boston becomes a series of Islands separated by low lying flooded zones. New forms o transportation must be explored for this new reality. Train stations become portals to a new city that frames the co-existence of architecture and nature in a picturesque way. Whereas those on the outskirts are forced to deal with the reclamation of Boston in a much more real way.
