Student Speakers

Thank you to our 2024-25 head students, Cato Roeterdink and Armaan Al Hussain, who have led the student body this academic year; we are extremely appreciative of the contribution you have made to school life at JESS.

Cato, hailing from the Netherlands, is the last of the four Roeterdink sisters to come through JESS! Her positive, proactive and selfless atttiude meant she was always destined to become Head Girl. Being Head Girl for Cato was never about building her CV, but more about how she could best support her fellow students across the secondary school. In lower school, she often represented her year group in Student Council meetings and was always an advocate for change. Cato excels in academics and has been involved in many service initiatives, including being a member of the successful Period Empowerment Team. Cato embodies the essence of hard work and leaves a lasting impact on her peers, teachers and the school community as a whole.

Armaan joined JESS in Year 7 and has had a significant impact on our community. On top of excelling academically, he has been part of numerous school productions and has delivered various musical performances. He has been a valued member of the IB Theatre Studies group and his theatrical and musical talent will be missed by JESS. As Head Boy, Armaan has often looked out for his fellow students and has always planned and led productive Student Executive meetings. Furthermore, Armaan was a member of the Period Empowerment Team and travelled to Cambodia to support local communities over there. This work demonstrated Armaan’s relentless mission to always help those who are less fortunte than himself.

BTEC Sport

Student Speakers

Farishya is a kind and caring student who is well thought of by all her teachers and fellow students. Having been at JESS since FS1, she leaves us knowing that she has put her all into everything that school has had to offer her. Farishya is a cheerful student who is always smiling, which has had a positive influence on everybody around her. When her peers have found aspects of Sixth Form challenging, Farishya is always a student to offer support. Farishya started Sixth Form as an IB student but then realised that BTEC Sport was more suitable for her pathway. A mature and smart decision to make for someone of her age as she now has some excellent university offers from some prestigious universities in Australia. JESS will miss Farishya’s infectious positivity.

IB Student

Raad joined JESS in Year 7 and has been a valued member of our community ever since. With a kind and likeable character, Raad is a student who just enjoys everything that school has to offer. Teachers often comment that Raad is a friendly person with a great sense of humour. A calm and collected leader, he can often be relied upon. This has been evident in his leadership during team debates, his support for Year 10 students undertaking the Bronze International Award, and his initiative in offering History tutoring to a Year 11 student. Raad has also represented the Blues Football Team this year, scoring one of the goals of the season! Raad will be missed by all stakeholders at JESS and he will undoubtedly be a great ambassador for our school as he enters life at university.
