INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Summer edition of Delivered. I hope you are all well and looking forward to the warmer season! In this issue of Delivered we are reflecting on the crisis in Ukraine and demonstrating how we as a business have supported the country at this uncertain time. We’re also revealing how the postal world has banded together, and through their actions have collectively shown that they stand in solidarity with Ukraine. We bid a fond farewell, or à bétôt (Goodbye,in Jèrriais), to Tim Brown our CEO. Tim’s strong leadership of the Group has unified the business and driven its diversification strategy, he leaves us primed for the future and we wish him all the best for a wonderful and well-deserved retirement. We also warmly welcome Tim’s successor to the business, our new CEO, Mark Siviter. I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone, when I say we are looking forward to working with Mark and embarking on the future of Jersey Post Group under your leadership. I am excited to share with you the details of the JPGL launch at The World Mail and Express Americas Conference in Miami. The brand launched to the logistics industry in late February, and it was a great opportunity for us to raise brand awareness and build prosperous working relationships for the business. Within this issue we also take an in-depth look at our business’s eco goals and how we plan to reach our zero-carbon emission goals as a Group by 2040. In April, we very much enjoyed our first annual Jersey Post Group conference, the JPG International Summit. It was a wonderfully productive conference, and it was great to gather our colleagues, near and far, to build on our working relationships as well as lay out our plans for the future. We are also proud to share with you the details of three awards that the business has won this year. Tim Brown won the prestigious ‘Industry Leadership Award’ at the World Post and Parcel Awards in Dubai, and at the same event, Jersey Post also won the ‘Philatelic Campaign of the Year’, for our ‘Lockdown birds’ stamp issue; an impressive feat as we were up against tough international competition. Jersey Employment Trust has also bestowed Jersey Post with an Outstanding Employer Award for our efforts on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. I do hope you enjoy reading about the various aspects of the Jersey Post Group in this issue of Delivered, and that it reflects how everyone within the company is connected in a valuable way to the wider Group.

UKRAINE In recent months we have all seen the news coming from Ukraine and our hearts go out to the people caught up in this tragedy. In Jersey, we have tried to support those in need through various appeals and donations. Jersey Post has taken action through various forms of appeals and donations to ensure the Ukraine remains connected to the world, we have helped to provide medical, communication and fundraising support. Several of our postal officers have also kindly donated their time. We stand with the Ukraine and as a business we have grouped together in show of solidarity and will continue to do so.

UKRAINE APPEAL

MEDICAL SUPPORT

COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT

Jersey Post answered an urgent call to help deliver 200 oxygen concentrators, left over from the Covid response in Jersey, to Poland to help with aid efforts in Ukraine.

Jersey Post partnered with Jersey Telecom (JT) to support Islanders who have relatives and friends in Ukraine. JT ensured that from 1 March 2022, all fixed and mobile calls and SMS messages from the Channel Islands to numbers in Ukraine were free, while Jersey Post waived postage charges for mail addressed to Ukraine from the same date.

As a Group we worked with Jersey Overseas Aid to get the equipment to Warsaw, from there it was transported across the border into Ukraine by Crown Agents, Jersey Overseas Aid’s specialist logistics and procurement partner. Ukraine’s Ministry of Health confirmed the oxygen concentrators were desperately needed. Jersey’s Health and Community Services Department made the concentrators available to Jersey Overseas Aid who then approached Jersey Post for help with the logistics of getting them to the Crown Agents’ warehouse in Poland. Crown Agents, which has worked in Ukraine for 25 years, ensured the oxygen concentrators reached medical teams and hospitals inside Ukraine, including in the besieged cities where they are needed most to treat civilians being indiscriminately shelled by Russia. Jersey Post’s offer to get these to the Crown Agents’ warehouse will literally save lives. Tim Brown, Chief Executive of Jersey Post said, “We stand with the people of Ukraine and had no hesitation in offering our expertise and logistics network to get this critical medical equipment to where it needs to be, as quickly as possible.” Carolyn Labey, Jersey’s Minister for International Development and Chair of the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission, said at the time: “This collaboration between Jersey Post, the Health and Community Services Department and Jersey Overseas Aid is Jersey at its best. Like the public’s extraordinary donations of goods and now money to the Bailiff’s Appeal, we see the Island pulling together to help the innocent civilians caught up in Russia’s barbaric war.” The ‘Nuvo Lite 5’ is a compact and transportable oxygen concentrator that can provide medical grade continuous flow oxygen from 0.125 to 5 Litres Per Minute (5LPM) using standard PSA technology.

Pip Carpenter, Head of Consumer Market at JT, said at the time: “We have all seen the deeply disturbing images and news coming from Ukraine and our hearts go out to the people caught up in this tragedy. We want to do what we can to help and, working with Jersey Post and others, we hope by making phone calls free will support those who are trying to contact and stay in touch with friends and loved ones.” David McGrath, Group Marketing Director from Jersey Post, said: “As both JT and ourselves, are in a position to help, we started working on how to make this happen over the weekend. Keeping in touch with people at moments like this are vital, and we will do all we can to help those caught up in these tragic events.” For those Islanders who wished to send mail to the Ukraine they had to hand-deliver to Broad Street Post Office or Rue des Pres Post Office for processing.

We stand with the people of Ukraine and had no hesitation in offering our expertise and logistics network.

BAILIFF’S APPEAL On Tuesday 1 March, the Government of Jersey started a fundraising appeal to help support the innocent people of the Ukraine. The Government also kickstarted the fund by donating £1 million to the appeal, to which Islanders were encouraged to donate in order to help provide humanitarian aid to civilians in Ukraine. To help with this appeal, Jersey Post franked all local mail (free of charge) with a postmark encouraging Islanders to donate, and which directed the public to the sidebyside.je website to make their donations.

A DISPLAY OF SOLIDARITY As many around the world have done, we embraced the colours of the Ukrainian flag in tribute to the people of Ukraine, and painted the post box outside Postal Headquarters at Rue des Pres blue and yellow, whilst our iconic Jersey Post chevron turned blue and yellow across all of our digital channels. We also changed all of our computer screen laptops to the Ukraine Flag with the statement ‘We stand with Ukraine’.

UKRAINE APPEAL

FUNDRAISING AROUND THE BUSINESS In the first week of March, donation drop off points were made available to all Jersey based employees to donate much needed clothes, toiletries, blankets and toys to the thousands in need as a result of the war. The donations were then amalgamated and taken to De La Salle College on 5 March, who then passed them onto the central collection areas on-island for sending. We also held a group-wide dress down day on Friday 4 March whereby all employees were invited to wear blue and yellow to raise money for those in need in Ukraine. We asked for a minimum donation of £2 to take part. The money raised was donated to the Choose Love Ukraine Crisis Fundraiser. You can read more about this cause at donate.chooselove.org/campaigns/ukraine-appeal/ Well done everyone for your generous donations! Big thanks to our postie John (dressed in Ukraine colours for our dress down day!) who dropped off all of Jersey Post’s donations to the Ukraine appeal! We would also like to say a huge thank you to Keith Davis! Whilst several staff members were helping with the Ukraine appeal, Keith arrived in an Evie van (a rentable electric vehicle) on his day off. When asked what he was doing, he said, ‘Well I don’t have a car but I heard that they needed help collecting donations from the Parish Hall so I’ve hired this electric van for the day to support’. We really appreciate Keith’s generosity in donating his time to the Jersey community.

AID OF UKRAINE

T

he world went into a state of shock when the war in Ukraine started. Just as we were starting to ease out of the Covid-19 pandemic, this tragedy began. The world of postal and logistics stepped up and started to take action, understanding the importance of keeping Ukraine connected to the rest of the world. Several postal authorities put appeals and free postage in place to aid the country. Delivered is looking at some of the ways the postal world has provided aid to a country at war.

UNITED KINGDOM Post Office Limited in the UK, in conjunction with Disasters Emergency Committee, launched an appeal for donations to aid those in the Ukraine. Donations could be given at any of their 11,500 post office branches and furthermore, any donations would be matched by the UK government in a sum up to £25 million. On 4 May 2022, donations taken through British post offices had reached £1,727,310.75 and the contributions continue to come in.

IRELAND On 30 April 2022, An Post handed over their social media accounts for the day to UNICEF Ireland, so that they could tell the stories of Ukrainians living through war, and show how UNICEF is making a difference on the ground. An Post also provided assistance to those people coming from Ukraine into Ireland. A social media video in Ukrainian guided individuals on the various services An Post could help them with. The services available to Ukranian nationals included collection of benefits payments from their post offices in Ireland, Address Point, a secure, free delivery location service for those without a confirmed residential address, and free postage on standard letters and parcels to Ukraine. An Post also waived all charges on transferring money to and from Ukraine. An Post also helped support communication. Ukrainian nationals who have recently arrived in the country are entitled to a free SIM card with three months free usage so that they can contact family still in Ukraine.

10

GUERNSEY Guernsey Post waived charges for all mail posted to Ukraine and in conjunction with Polish based organisation, Help Ukraine, they are offering free postage for humanitarian aid packages sent to the country.

The world went into a state of shock when the war in Ukraine started. FINLAND In conjunction with the Ukrainian association, PostNord Finland agreed that postal services in Finland will provide assistance with transport of humanitarian shipments and offer PostNord storage facilities free of charge for storage of relief supplies.

NORWAY PostNord Norway is allowing residents to send emergency aid packages to the people of Ukraine for free, drop off points are available from 22 of their locations in Norway. The parcels are then sent to a collection point in Poland where the Ukrainian postal service picks up and distributes the goods further into Ukraine to the places in the country where the need is greatest.

CZECH REPUBLIC Czech Post waived fees for shipping packages to Ukraine from 1 March 2022. Concerned locals are able to send their own standard sized aid packages free of charge from the Czech Republic to Ukraine. Czech Post also joined Czech Railways in facilitating humanitarian aid from the Czech Republic following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

GIBRALTAR From 2 March 2022, with support from HM Government of Gibraltar, the Royal Gibraltar Post Office waived postage charges for mail addressed to Ukraine. In addition to this they also offer free postage for humanitarian aid parcels under 5kgs.

LUXEMBOURG In order to facilitate and support refugees arriving from Ukraine in the Grand Duchy, Post Luxembourg is committed to providing assistance to those individuals. With the support of Post Luxembourg, Ukrainian nationals are entitled to a free mobile phone subscription, as well as the provision of a bank account and a payment card free of charge. Both actions are implemented in conjunction with the “Office national de l’accueil” (ONA). Post Luxembourg is also making a number of facilities and accommodation available to ONA for housing refugees.

A Fond Farewell

I

t’s the end of an era at Jersey Post as our enigmatic CEO Tim Brown retires from the business on 30 June 2022. Tim joined the business in 2014 with a vision to transform Jersey Post from a small island postal operator to an end-to-end global logistics provider, and he now happily leaves the business knowing he has successfully accomplished this goal, with Jersey Post Group now operating across four continents.

As a Group we would like to say thank you and bid a fond farewell to Tim for all his hard work and dedication to the business over the years; we can safely say Jersey Post would not be where it is today without him. When Tim took over as Chief Executive of Jersey Post in 2014, it was a dying business. In the last eight years, Tim has re-energised the team, re-focused the organisation and laid the foundations for a business that will be better equipped to meet the challenges that lie ahead with a growth of £34m to £80m during his tenure. As our CEO prepares to celebrate his retirement, we look back at some of Tim’s most memorable and impactful moments from his tenure at Jersey Post, both in growing the business and some unforgettable highlights. »

NEWS BITE

Ship2Me launches new website! Our new Ship2Me website went live at the beginning of April. The new website has a modern, fresh feel and provides a more user-friendly journey for customers. In preparation for the new site, we gathered customer feedback and liaised with key stakeholders around the business to identify any Ship2me opportunities and recommended improvements. Working with our creative agency TPA, we have delivered a new and improved service. We believe we have created a website that not only benefits the customer, but our teams at Jersey Post and at Woodside Logistics in the UK, who work hard to give our customers the best service. Customers can now create orders through the Ship2me website via a more simplified process. We have also provided added sizing examples to make it easier to find the correct sized parcel to suit their order, as well as added ordering options, full order tracking and new features that enable customers to view and manage their order history.

20

In addition to the new front end of the website, a new admin site has been created for the Customer Care team and the Operations team at Woodside Logistics to work with. More automated processes and user-friendly admin screens, mean that the teams can easily see how many items they’re expecting that day, book items into the depot and notify customers on the arrival status of their item. They can also manage any order issues within this site, upload manifests and dispatch all the orders at the end of the day to the correct island for final mile delivery. We are working on continuous service improvements, new features and wider product offerings which will be released over the coming months. Any ideas or feedback is always welcomed, please get in touch with Jane or Sarah in the Product Management team. Remember that all Jersey Post Group employees benefit from 25% off their overall order. To find out more about this discount , please visit the benefits and discounts page on RedNet. sland communities are often pioneers for sustainability. Perhaps it’s the fact that we are so closely connected to the ocean that surrounds us, or our compelling sense of community.

David McGrath, Group Marketing Director, provides insight on Jersey Post Group’s road to carbon neutrality and playing a part in Jersey’s sustainable future.»

Our fleet is 70% electric and boasts 75 electric vans, 34 electric bikes and 27 bicycles. As many of you know, Jersey Posts’ sustainability journey began back in 2016 when we started to electrify our 120-strong vehicle fleet, by introducing 15 Nissan e-NV200 electric vehicles - each van reducing their carbon emissions by 95%. Jersey Post was one of the first large businesses in Jersey to make this commitment, earning us the Green Fleet Award for the Private Sector Fleet of the Year in 2016. As a postal business we have the ongoing challenge of delivering approximately 90,000 items daily, which equates to our vans travelling approximately 675,000 miles per annum. We understand the role we play in protecting our Island and its people and ultimately, we aim to keep our carbon emissions as low as possible. Jersey Post’s investment in zero and low-emission vehicles is an ongoing programme. Today, our fleet is 70% electric and boasts 75 electric vans, 34 electric bikes and 27 bicycles. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Jersey Post delivered three million parcels by electric fleet. The rest of our vehicles only now use Biofuel, which is scientifically proven to be a carbon reducer, helping Jersey Post towards its overall goal to be carbon neutral on-island by 2030. Over the last year, Jersey Post has continued to look at replacement technology, including the adoption of electric bikes to complete mail rounds and the company has also switched to energy efficient LED lighting across their premises.

PEOPLE POWER

Having the right data at your fingertips is crucial for achieving carbon footprint reductions. With this in mind, in 2021, the group employed the services of Sheena Brockie, a local business consultant, to audit our carbon footprint and help initiate the correct environmental strategies for the business.

Stakeholders, in the form of employees, board members, management teams, suppliers and customers are all drivers to creating a successful Sustainability Strategy.

In Jersey, the majority of everything islanders need for day-to-day living is imported. 95% of food is imported, electricity is imported from France and petrol, diesel, oil and gas are also imported. Additionally, although water is processed on the island, there are limited reserves. We recognise that in order to be more sustainable we need to look at the resources we use, how we use them and follow a rapid decarbonisation away from fossil fuels. The carbon audits will enable Jersey Post to measure direct greenhouse gas emissions that are owned and controlled by us as group, as well as indirect greenhouse gas emissions from purchased energy sources. The final phase of the audit records the bigger picture emissions from a variety of scopes, including supply and treatment of water, staff commute, mail travel and materials. Protecting and enhancing our island and the special qualities that make it home are major drivers for human actions. We want our customers to know that we too care for our island and take responsibility for our part in protecting it, our people and the planet.

People are our greatest asset, and we need to be engaged and drive the initiative together. Protecting our environment is not a trend, and we must ensure our approach to sustainability lives and breathes throughout our organisation. In 2020, Jersey Post set up an in-house Eco Team to play their part in protecting the environment, build an awareness and help drive changes. The aim of the team is to help staff to feel empowered to take the necessary actions to effect real change – both within the business and in the home too. The voluntary team consists of people from across the business with a passion for all things eco. They help to both drive and communicate Jersey Post’s environmental vision and teach others across the business about sustainable development, including ways to help the environment at work through programs, initiatives and educational experiences. Reka Wilson, Vaiie Digital Product Development Executive, and part of the Eco team, provides insight to her motivations to be part of the initiative. ‘’Working in technology, it didn’t always seem straightforward getting involved with sustainability initiatives. Still, through my previous work with a wildlife conservation trust, I have learned that we can do something to protect our world, no matter what our industry or role is. So, when the opportunity arose to join the Eco Team at JPG, I didn’t think twice. It is a great honour to be involved, and there is so much the team has achieved. I am excited for the year ahead and support innovation in green technology helping both our island and our world.’’

F E AT U R E

Breaking bad habits, whether at home, travelling, shopping, or the workplace, is a topic of much discussion within our Jersey Post Group. We are seeing an increased focus from everyone across the business on the importance of changing our environmental behaviours. A sense of pride and passion for what we are achieving and a collective push to reduce our impact on the natural environment is becoming the norm. Within the business we have also taken many environmentally conscious steps, including the reduction of printed marketing materials, introducing the use of biodegradable elastic bands, removal of single use plastics from our canteen, and we continue to offer accessible recycling bins and battery recycling facilities. As part of Jersey Post’s environmental strategies, we encourage the wider community to take part in our climate saving initiative to reduce ‘miles travelled’ for missed deliveries. We offer, and have frequently advertised, our alternative delivery services which help to negate unnecessary travel within Jersey. In 2021, 50% of Jersey households are recorded as using Jersey Post’s SecureDrop service while the remaining residents frequently used our 24/7 parcel locker service, offering over 500 parcel lockers across six locations. Each service plays a vital role in taking us closer to our commitment of being carbon neutral on-island by 2030.

The pandemic has played a big role in encouraging more companies to examine how they are operating. Our Environmental Consultant Sheena explains: “The two main positives that seem to have come out of living through a pandemic is the sense of community and a re-connection to nature. When we were forced to slow down and take stock, the effect of our actions on our living planet became clear. There was no going back to ‘normal’ – it was time for a new type of normal.” Throughout 2021, Jersey Post engaged staff in various strategies to become more energy efficient and reduce its reliance on natural resources. Hybrid working was initiated, and this reduced employee miles travelled. The company also eliminated non-essential business travel with a Microsoft Teams call first approach. In addition Jersey Post continued with its ongoing initiatives including a ‘school bus’ transporting staff to and from work and a cycle to work. Our Group’s efforts are not limited to the island. With 40% of our business not even touching Jersey, we are also conscious that we need to look at our carbon neutral plans on a global scale. As such our target is to be net-zero carbon emissions globally by 2040. We continually work to optimise transport across the Jersey Post Group, to ensure it is as efficient as possible throughout our global network. At Jersey Post, we also hope to use the Eco Team’s sphere of influence to encourage our customers and suppliers on their own sustainability journey. To start, we want to encourage suppliers to work towards environmental sustainability accreditation. In the longer term, we aim to establish a procurement policy that includes sustainability as part of the decision-making process.

There was no going back to ‘normal’ – it was time for a new type of normal.

26

GREENING THE ISLAND

SECTOR SUPPORT This shift to more sustainable operations is being seen across the sector, driven by environmental targets set by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), UPU and Post Europ. The logistics industry as a whole is now looking towards utilising sustainable fuels across air, ocean and road freight by adopting clean fuel and looking at technological solutions as the way forward in truly eliminating emissions from transport and logistics businesses. The only way forward is working in collaboration. We do not want to work alone to achieve our goals and part of the strategy going forward for Jersey Post is to build relationships with other businesses, communities and individuals, and in this way we can utilise technology and innovation to meet our zero-carbon emission target. However, we recognise we have a long way to go.

The only way forward is working in collaboration.

ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT AND WANT TO CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE? If so contact David McGrath to join the Eco Team, so you can help to shape the Eco culture at Jersey Post!

The Jubilee marks seven decades of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and plans to commemorate this momentous and unprecedented occasion extend far beyond the shores of the British Isles, with celebrations taking place as far as Australia and the Cayman Islands. Throughout the spring of this, the Jubilee year, members of the Royal Family undertook royal tours of commonwealth countries. From its earlier beginnings, football developed as a sport in 1863 when representatives of 11 clubs from the London area gathered to form what would become the Football Association. The formation of the Football Association Challenge Cup became key to the development of modern football, as teams entering the competition had to abide by the uniformity of FA rules. The FA Cup has developed into the unique event it is today, a knockout competition between teams from the top 10 levels of the English Football league system - over 700 clubs. As teams are not seeded, the possibility of ‘drawing a big club’ and ‘giant killing’ escapades have become an essential part of the excitement and attraction of each round. As it reaches its 150th anniversary, winning the FA Cup represents the pinnacle of domestic club cup achievement. The stamps in this issue, illustrated by Roy of the Rovers artist David Sque, feature some great moments from the competition over the years, with the miniature sheet illustrating a scene from the very first final. A prestige booklet is also available. For further information or to purchase the stamps, visit www.jerseystamps.com

Common themes for us to consider: 1. COST There were several references to increased costs and price comparisons with the UK. Customers wanted to know why postage in the UK via Royal Mail is often cheaper than the price of postage from Jersey to the UK. 2. PARCELS Customers gave considerable praise for managing the dramatic increase in parcels and the challenges that this must bring to the business. Many mentioned SecureDrop and what a great help it is, especially with the bar code to enable signature items to be left. 3. POSTBOXES AND COLLECTIONS There were several comments asking about the possibility of increasing the number of postboxes and also if the collection times could be increased or made later in the day, as a lot of postboxes now have a once a day collection at 10am. 4. MISDELIVERY There were several customers who reported receiving misdelivered letters for properties with similar addresses, e.g., Albert Street versus Albert Place etc.

WHO GOT A MENTION? Paige, Robin, Martin, Grouville Delivery Team, Gorey Delivery Team, Paul McQuarrie (massive fan club out there for Paul!), CJ, Michelle, Pete, Alan, Sara, Jason, Scott Kean, Nick Benest, Taylor in Customer Services, and the team on town round 11.

The aim of the WMX conference 2022, was to explore the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the post and parcel industry, with a focus on the continuous challenges presented by crossing borders, and how we can work together to build a sustainable future. As premium sponsors of the event JPGL were at the forefront hosting the opening event and led several discussions throughout the conference. »

INNOVATION IN THE LAST MILE David McGrath, Group Marketing Director, led a discussion on innovation in last mile delivery, exploring the increasing demand for faster deliveries, low-cost operations, shifting customer behaviours and how the industry is reacting to the ever-increasing demands. With the rise in eCommerce, crowdsourcing apps and sameday delivery, the last-mile sector has taken on various pressures and challenges, making it an industry primed for disruption.

THE CROSS-BORDER CHALLENGE Our Group Chief Executive Officer, Tim Brown, conducted a discussion focussed on the challenges of cross-border logistics and how it continues to grow almost as rapidly as eCommerce. Online sales have skyrocketed due to the lack of physical presence, as well as shops and warehouses closing down. With the new normal, the eCommerce economy is believed to rise by 22% by 2023 and it will require advanced cross-border solutions to cope with customers’ demands. The WMX conference provides a valuable platform to build JPGL into a robust, interconnected network across the globe to ensure that we can continue to meet the changing demands of our local and international customers. It was the perfect place to introduce the business on a global scale, and open connections for future business opportunities.

t’s no secret that eCommerce has been one of the few winners in the pandemic, and cross-border purchases have enjoyed a similar surge. According to crossborder eCommerce enabler, Global-e, cross-border eCommerce sales grew 21% in 2020 compared to 2019. From luxuries to everyday basics, consumers are increasingly buying online, and from abroad. For merchants and payment processors alike, this has increased the need for seamless, reliable systems to support cross-border payments. In 2021, Worldpay found that 55% of online shoppers made a cross-border purchase. The majority of shoppers who shifted online amid the pandemic are expected to stay even after normality returns, making eCommerce increasingly likely to become the dominant form of purchase type for many products. Of these purchases, a growing percentage – according to multiple projections – will be cross-border.

Geographically, shoppers in the UAE (53%), China (50%) and India (41%) reported the highest rates of purchase frequency levels at 11 or more. Whilst 37% of millennial shoppers made more than 11 online cross-border purchases in 2021. With eCommerce becoming ever-more dominant, and cross-border purchases set to become a more commonplace part of consumers’ lives, there are several challenges that merchants will need to tackle if they are to thrive over the next decade. Delivery is still the biggest concern of cross-border shoppers; they want to ensure their delivery is low-cost and quick! JPGL is striving to tackle these challenges and set the standard in cross-border delivery.

Drivers for cross-border growth: • The unavailability of products domestically; • Affordable costs and convenience; • Consumer-focused targeting like Amazon, eBay, Alibaba Group, Wish, etc; • Technology and the rising usage of smartphones and tablets by millennials.

In 2022, over a fifth of online shopping sales will be generated internationally.

Large weight means increased costs, extra charges and customs delays. Technology strives to solve reverse logistics challenges D

igital advancements have been vital for logistics to meet the demands of a growing eCommerce market. One of the biggest drains on the eCommerce market is the returns process, the traditional reverse supply chain can be long and complicated, with goods traveling from consumer to retailer, then back into stock for resale or to the vendor, wholesaler or a secondary buyer. It is also a very expensive process. Reverse logistics can cost a business up to 60% of an item’s original sales price. With the increased use of shopping online, technology has stepped up in a big way to aid businesses in minimising returns expenses.»

44

LOGISTICS CHALLENGES

45

F E AT U R E

The system a retailer chooses will vary depending on their business requirements. Many retailers tend to accept the high cost of returns as inevitable, but technology is changing this perception. There are various options available now in the form of returns management solution platforms. A number of new businesses have popped up in recent years, taking advantage of finding a solution to an expensive problem. For example, one startup partners with retailers and manufacturers looking to resell returned items as well as excess, unsold merchandise. Software is provided to retailers to manage and redirect their extra inventory and returned products for sale on sites such as eBay, Amazon and others. With the revenue pitfall that is reverse logistics, Jersey Post in recent years has increased the returns options for both overseas businesses and on-island consumers, by entering into partnerships with several online returns management platforms including ZigZag, Metapack and ReBOUND. This effectively minimises costs enabling easier delivery to, and returns from, the Channel Islands and makes it significantly easier for eCommerce retailers, as well as the end customer living locally.

46

LOGISTICS CHALLENGES

The perceived cost and complexity of delivering to the Channel Islands can prevent online retailers from offering services to Channel Island customers. However, service developments like these open up online shopping options for Channel Island residents. For example, ZigZag is a software solution to help eCommerce retailers manage returns domestically and globally. The ZigZag platform connects major retailers to a global network of over 220 warehouses to over 450+ carrier services in over 130 countries. ZigZag’s clients include boohoo group, Selfridges, GAP, Superdry, DHL, The Hut Group and many more. Through work recently undertaken by Jersey Post, any online retailers that are currently using ZigZag will now have immediate access to Jersey Post delivery service options. This service enhancement will help eCommerce providers to overcome the costly and time-consuming task of sourcing appropriate carrier and freight options and having to develop and integrate their own software, therefore enabling them to start shipping to the Channel Islands more quickly and easily. Technology is continually finding ways to link up supply chains for seamless returns processes, which is effectively plugging the revenue hole in reverse logistics for the eCommerce industry.

I proactively manage the logistics aspects of Jersey-based businesses who sell goods – mostly on eCommerce platforms (this could be Amazon, eBay or their own websites). This includes an array of responsibilities – answering any queries or questions, promoting and selling our full range of products, liaising with Operations, Finance and IT to ensure overall client satisfaction. HOW WOULD YOU SUM UP THE LOGISTICS INDUSTRY? First and foremost – Logistics must add value for the customer. This means retail companies should not view logistics as a cost factor, but rather as a source of added value. Logistics is an element of the overall supply chain. As such we have our strengths and weaknesses, and we must be adaptable to the ever (and fast) changing landscape we work in daily. Behind the Products WITH ADAM BROWN

D

elivered is going behind the products and delving into the hard-working employees that are part of the Jersey Post Group. For this edition we sat down with Adam Brown, Programme Manager at Vaiie.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? I’m Adam, I’m 41, I joined the Jersey Post Group in July 2021, and I am the Vaiie Programme Manager, responsible for delivery of our technology solutions to the market. I’m originally from Yorkshire but I moved to Jersey in 2002 when a three-year contract with a bank turned into five and then ten, then kids came along and I’m still here. Jersey is home. What led you to follow a career in a digital environment and can you tell us a bit about what you have done previously? Maybe I’m not your usual Jersey Post employee, my background is in projects and strategy with a specialism in financial services and technology. Having completed banking, I spent five years at Jersey Finance (who promote Jersey’s finance sector at home and abroad). My role was focused on Fintech and how technology can solve problems faced by Jersey’s financial services sector. During this time, I worked with Jersey’s Government, the Jersey Financial Services Commission, and Digital Jersey to align and strengthen the Island’s Fintech proposition to help grow the local economy. I was fortunate to collaborate with numerous local Fintechs and interesting industry players which is how I got to know Vaiie. What appealed to you about working for Vaiie? Quite simply it’s the chance to be part of something unique, the innovative way in which the group is seeking to transform itself was compelling. To move from talking about problems at a strategic level into building products that solve them was another major draw. At Vaiie, we have the best of both worlds, a start-up feel, but with the benefits of being part of a wider group. Having worked at a bank during the financial crisis, trust, credibility and how the outside world view your organisation is important to me, Jersey Post is one of, if not the Island’s most trusted organisation. »

52

BEHIND THE PRODUCTS

At Vaiie, we have the best of both worlds, a startup feel, but with the benefits of being part of a wider group.

53

F E AT U R E

Fast paced and variable, but with the backing to make informed decisions. What has your first year at Vaiie been like? Fast paced and variable, but with the backing to make informed decisions. Financial services firms are charged with protecting clients’ money, they have to safeguard their clients but this means that at times they can be cautious and slow to adapt, so the change is refreshing.

What do you like to do in your spare time? With two small children I’m kept fairly busy, they are quite creative, so we normally have crafternoons. I’m quite practical so I enjoy DIY and the satisfaction of a job well done. I’m into football and motorsport, watching rather than participating!

Vaiie’s latest version of its Identify product will be available soon. For those of us who aren’t from a digital background, could you tell us about it? If we take things back a step, there are groups such as terrorists and organised crime that seek to abuse the financial ecosystem. The fight against financial crime is continual, firms across many sectors are required to undertake checks to prevent bad actors succeeding. Vaiie’s solutions help firms in this fight.

Outside of work I’m part of the local branch of the Association for Project Management where we seek to raise awareness of the project profession across the Channel Islands. As a career, project management has been really rewarding so giving back to the profession is important to me, in recognition of this I have been awarded Fellowship of the APM.

Vaiie Identify is an identity verification tool, individuals are prompted to safely and securely scan their passport which we cross-reference against over 9,000 document templates so we have a greater level assurance that the document is genuine. Identify also uses motion detection technology to help prove the liveness of an individual. Of course, I have oversimplified things and there are a lot more intelligent features of the product but put simply we can help assure that the person is who they claim to be. What is your favourite holiday destination and why? I’ve been fortunate to spend time in Peru, completing the Inca Trail and then spending time on an eco-lodge in the Peruvian rainforest was an unforgettable experience. I work closely with a team in Albania, visiting Tirana is next on my wishlist. From Tirana, a drive along the Montenegrin coast to visit an old Jersey friend, who grows figs in the mountains; he has a farm that has a resident bear, which he assures me is tame!

54

What is the best novel you have ever read? I don’t know if I have a favourite, I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction and it depends on where I am and what I’m doing. I read a lot to my kids to develop their imagination and vocabulary. I recently read them George’s Marvellous Medicine which led to an awkward conversation with my partner on where her Clarins went. My rule is that they get twice as much money to spend on books than toys. What is your favourite app? My phone tells me its Twitter, which I tend to use as a source of news. This is closely followed by Podcasts which consume a lot of my time when I’m on the go - my listening habits vary but sport, comedy, fintech, true crime, and cyber security are all weekly listens. I listen to these on 1.5 speed to help me get through more shows and this has helped me listen to, and process information faster in day-to-day life, quite the unintended but welcome consequence.

Forging Ahead IN THE AFTERMATH OF COVID-19

T

he last two years have had a tremendous impact on the world of logistics, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the business priorities for organisations across the globe.

During the pandemic, many people were confined to their homes, with more and more people turning to online shopping. Logistics businesses kept the world connected, and while some businesses struggled, others thrived, with final mile delivery the big winner of the pandemic, supporting eCommerce sellers like Amazon and Alibaba.

56

FORGING AHEAD

If Covid-19 has taught logistics businesses anything, it is that it is vital to maintain a proactive and optimistic approach, and being willing to diversify. PEOPLE FIRST

S U P P LY C H A I N

As the logistics industry comes out of Covid-19, more companies are reshaping their business strategies, to focus on people and assets as a first priority. Having a readily available workforce has been a key component in keeping businesses going over the past two years and the shortage of HGV drivers brought this into focus in a big way. The ongoing, upward trend of eCommerce means that demand for increased workforce continues as jobs will increase to cover the growing freight volumes.

During the pandemic, many companies came to the realisation that they were reliant on supply chains, which are dependent on suppliers and are highly susceptible in times of crisis, like the pandemic. Going forward, businesses will have a greater chance of success if they can strive to maintain full control of the supply chain. By having an automated and interconnected system, processes will be automated and possible errors in freight efficiency will be avoided. JPGL is a prime example of a business getting ahead of the game in this respect and putting us in a prominent position in the market as a result. We can offer pick-up to delivery around the other side of the world with the unique combination of our freight forwarding, Customs, postal integrators and cross-border eCommerce services.

E M B R A C I N G D I G I TA L Technological assets have also proved to be a prime future focus as they have been incremental in increasing efficiencies for supply chain routes, as well as alleviating pressures at base level with parcel sorting and calculating storage capacity. Both AI and warehouse machinery will still be a major upward trend as businesses try to stay on top of the ever-booming eCommerce trend. As cost pressures increase, technology will assist in increasing reliability and dependency to maintain a highly efficient service to customers despite increased demand. Investing in these technologies also make businesses more resilient, providing the ability to track supply chains, introduce digital inventory forecasting and dispatch and implement comprehensive capacity planning.

If Covid-19 has taught logistics businesses anything, it is that it is vital to maintain a proactive and optimistic approach, and being willing to diversify.

57

F E AT U R E

N I A L L M CC LU R E Managing Director Postal and Logistics

Niall McClure, Managing Director of Postal and Logistics for Jersey Post, provided insight from a regional perspective, as the business moves out of the pandemic. During Covid, we saw a growth of 30% of inbound parcels and a decline in letter mail, as we emerge from Covid, have these trends remained? In 2020, parcel volumes did indeed grow by 30% compared to 2019 and letter volumes declined by 20%. In 2021, parcel volumes grew by a further 5% and letter volumes increased by 2.5% recovering some of the prior year decline. In part, this was helped by taking on the Jersey Evening Post newspaper deliveries and by re-starting our commercial Direct2Home services. So far this year we have seen letter volumes remain static whilst parcel volumes have softened by about 7%. We are starting to see some signs of growth in parcel numbers but it remains to be seen what effect the general cost of living pressures will have.

A lot of post and logistics businesses seem to be experiencing an increased demand for workforce as a result of the ongoing upward trend of eCommerce. Is this something that Jersey Post are seeing or are we already in a prime position in this respect as a result of the challenges we faced during Covid-19? Jersey Post is constantly seeking new staff to replace those that are retiring or moving on to new adventures. Our employment package is really quite attractive when you consider things like bonus, healthcare, pension, subsidies, opportunities for overtime, sick pay and other benefits. We are finding that our brand and reputation stand us in good stead in the employment marketplace.

What would you say are the biggest challenges the business is facing now that we are slowly moving out of the pandemic? I think our challenges are broadly as they always were. We need to look after our staff and we need to provide our customers with great solutions to their requirements. If our staff and our customers are happy then I believe the business will continue to prosper.

Are there any aspects of the business that you feel have changed since the pandemic and if so, are these changes positive? In many ways the increase in parcel volumes during the pandemic coincided with our strategy to be a parcels focussed business. So that has been a positive change. The now famous ‘Programme 51’ has introduced a whole series of incremental changes that have also had a positive effect. For example, the ‘Northern Hub’ we established during Christmas peak last year was such a success it has encouraged us to invest in the Commercial Street building. This is creating additional sorting space that will allow us to move letter sorting frames out of Rue des Pres meaning there will be more space for the parcel operation. The pandemic also accelerated positive enhancements to our technology. Improvements to how our parcel sorter reads barcodes has both increased our sorting capacity but has also reduced the number of mis-sorts and rejects. Similarly, enhancements to our hand-held terminals have aided our Delivery Officers as they perform their duties.

58

Would you say that any opportunities have arisen from these challenges? Many people refer to the postal and logistics business as ‘the declining core’ due to the continued reduction in traditional letter volumes. As the business has responded to that challenge, and with the growth in parcel volumes, our revenue has moved from £32m in 2018 to £41m last year. Some decline!

Has the pandemic changed our business strategy going forward? No. In many ways the pandemic has confirmed that our strategy of becoming a parcel-centric business is the correct approach. Of course, there will be headwinds and bumps in the road along the way, but Jersey Post is well placed to take these in its stride as it continues to adapt and evolve.

FORGING AHEAD

We need to look after our staff and we need to provide our customers with great solutions to their requirements.

Andrea joined Jersey Post in 2009 as Finance Officer and transitioned to Human Resources in 2016, where she has been a friendly, welcoming face to many employees over the years. Thank you to Andrea for all her hard work and dedication to HR. We wish you all the best for the future!

HAIR-R AISING FUNDS! In February, Liam Burgess from Jersey Post’s IT department had a hair chop in aid of the Little Princess Trust. It was a true Jersey Post collaboration, as fellow employee, Sue Manning, Key Account Relationship Manager, was the one chopping it all off on the sorting floor, we think she did a great job! Liam’s been growing his locks for nearly four years and Sue has been training hard on a local barber’s course since last September, what a dream team!

New Postage Portal. With new UPU and customs regulations in place for electronic pre-advice data, and our recent shift to booking all services and producing labels from our own shipping platform Atlas, the Product and IT teams have been hard at work making changes to our Postage Portal. The website has been redesigned to better capture and process the required electronic postal data. The overall customer journey has also been improved to enable customers to easily transition to completing their customs data online, which will be timesaving for both customers and staff versus completing the declarations at the post office counters. As part of this project, the newest version of Altas, V6.5, was successfully deployed, another group milestone, as it is the first deployment of Atlas into a purely Jersey Post environment. There are ongoing improvements and features being rolled out to further improve the online portal user experience.

The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. A very well done to Liam and Sue for helping a great charity!

PRICE RISE & EAD REQUIREMENTS SHOUTOUT

TO OUR NEW RETURNS PARTNERS! Our returns service for Jersey residents continues to grow. We have now teamed up with Dryrobe, Boden, River Island and Spoke, enabling Islanders to shop more widely online and enjoy seamless returns.

Fetch Partners with Jersey Business At the beginning of the 2022, Lucie Sicard, Fetch Operations Manager and David McGrath, Group Marketing Director met with Jersey Business to join forces and with the aim of helping local businesses to sell their goods and services online. Following this successful meeting, a new partnership has been born between both parties. Jersey Business, which provides support to local businesses, will recommend local businesses to join Fetch.je. This will help each business to develop their online presence and enjoy the extra marketing exposure that Fetch provides, as well as the competitive next day delivery service. Over the summer, Fetch will be meeting with the team at Jersey Business to create a Fetch Workshop and Masterclass to offer to local businesses. These classes will be held at Jersey Business offices throughout 2022 and will be led by the Fetch team. This is a great opportunity to grow the current Fetch merchant offering and provide support to local businesses, helping them to compete with their online competitors. A win-win!

PRICE RISE 2022 Jersey Post made changes to its postal rates in April 2022. Whilst certain prices increased, changes were below inflation, with a two-pence increase for local letters and an eightpence increase on the price of sending to the UK, Isle of Man, and other Channel Islands. The changes to key stamp prices are detailed below: Service

2021 Price

2022 Price

Local Letter (100g)

54p

56p

UK, IOM and other CI Letter (100g)

74p

82p

European letter (100g)

£1.00

£1.20

Rest of World letter (100g)

£1.30

£1.75

The price changes are in light of increased costs as we continue to face significant challenges within the industry. CHANGES TO EAD REQUIREMENTS In addition in April 2022, new Electronic Pre-Advice Data (EAD) requirements came into place for sending items off-island. Parcel items containing goods and/or merchandise being sent off-island to the UK and internationally now require electronic pre-advice customs information. The changes are the result of regulatory requirements put in place by the Universal Postal Union. These changes also mean the CN22 & CN23 handwritten forms are no longer accepted. Providing electronic pre-advice customs information enables a smoother customs clearance process. This lets the receiving country know electronically and in advance information about the sender, receiver, and contents within the parcel. It also ensures that existing, emerging, and future legislative, security and customs requirements in overseas destinations are met. The upside to completing this information electronically on the Jersey Post website is that customers can reduce processing time in post offices when the information has been completed online. Plus there is a 2% discount on postage rates you purchase is online! For further information please visit: www.jerseypost.com

Fetch Exclusive Discounts for HSBC Customers In March, our Jersey based eCommerce marketplace, Fetch, teamed up with HSBC to provide exclusive merchant offers to HSBC customers. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY On 8 March, at Jersey Post we celebrated International Women’s Day. The global day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, with the aim of raising awareness of the bias that women constantly face and the need to continually strive for equality. To show our support for International Women’s Day our Jersey-based employees celebrated the day with cupcakes, and engaged in conversations on how to #BreakTheBias for gender equality. We asked staff to answer the question “Why is gender equality important?” and we had an array of thoughtful and valuable responses.

…if we do not have equality, it means we have inequality. This assumes one party is greater than the other. This view leads to wars, to enslavement, intolerance, to hatred, poverty, sickness and economic decline. Why would any right-minded human not recognise that equality, starting with a person’s gender identity, is the only way for the betterment of our entire species. It’s hardly rocket science (the maths for which was originally calculated by Barba Canright in 1939). - Sue

Gender equality ensures that people are treated as equals, that people get the dignity and respect they deserve and that their differences are celebrated. - Mary

Ending discrimination towards women and providing equal access to education and opportunities for employment benefits everyone. - David

Creates fairness based on ability across all boards. - Paul

N E W S F E AT U R E

Gender equality is important as at a young age, girls should receive the same education and job opportunities as boys, as it reduces poverty worldwide. It also means that everyone can independently support themselves or their families throughout their life. - Helen

Equality for women is important to ensure equality for all. Women have had just as much if not more impact in history but not been credited accordingly, simply based on the fact they were a woman. We live in an ever-connected world, and segregating people based on biases will do nothing more than hold us back from our full potential. - Taylor

It’s important for women to live in a safe and equal society, have equal access to power, resources and opportunity. Treated with dignity respect and fairness. It makes our community safer and healthier. Ending violence against women begins by addressing gender inequality. It doesn’t just happen in our homes but in the playground, sports, work and social media. For our daughters and sons, it’s time to make a change. Also, early childhood education and schools have an important role to play in breaking down poor attitudes and behaviours towards women and girls, and a strong focus on leadership, workforce participation and financial security to empower women in all stages of their lives. We are all responsible for changes made from the top. - Linda

Gender equality is important for progress. We live in a time when we are more than capable, regardless of gender to respect one another and understand that we are all able to perform jobs and tasks that once were divided by gender. From a woman’s point of view, I think that gender equality is important because it teaches us that we evolved as a society and we are no longer stuck in the old ways, where women were considered inferior to men. More and more women nowadays, are being invested in powerful job roles that can prove they are more than capable to handle things out of their comfort zone. Women can be CEOs, presidents, prime ministers, army commanders, doctors, and so on. - Gabriela

Gender equality in the workplace allows you to hold onto talented and valued employees. - Tracey

I think gender equality is important because it means that everyone is equal no matter their gender. Everyone should be treated the same, be shown the same respect and be treated fairly and consistently in all aspects of their lives. That is what I feel. - Julie

For a safer and healthier society, more perspectives mean wider variety. - Maxine

RE TAIL SUPPLY CHAIN & LOGIS TIC S E XPO 2022 PAUL SCR ATCHLE Y, UK SALES DIR EC TOR, JERSE Y POST GROUP The Retail Supply Chain & Logistics Expo provides a hub to help businesses meet customer expectations and stay ahead in this demanding industry. Customers want faster delivery times and an easier return system. In order to deliver this, retailers need to adapt their supply chain, and have a seamless warehousing and distribution system. This year’s exhibition was held at London’s Excel event centre from Tuesday 1 until Friday 4 March. Unfortunately, it did happen to occur at the same time as TFL announced that the underground would be suspended due to industrial action. London was gridlocked and as a result, proved challenging for stakeholders to get to and from the event. Having said that, Thursday’s footfall was good, attendees braved the morning disruption and battled their way to the event and the JPGL stand, where we were represented by mail, domestic, freight and Customs colleagues who engaged with the steady flow of visitors.

66

We picked up several great leads for our Customs clearance function and two good mail leads that will return the investment on the event. In addition, we managed to speak to a Chinese distributor who works with Alibaba and Wish, importing ‘stuff’ into the UK for decerning consumers seeking a barging. With another strike looming the very next day, we dismantled our stand and left the event with some very good opportunities in our pocket.

JERSEY POST CELEBR ATE

TWO WORLD POST & PARCEL AWARDS

Over the last eight years, Tim has successfully re-focused the Jersey Post Group and laid the foundations for a business that will be better equipped to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

On 11 May 2022, at the World Post and Parcel award ceremony in Dubai, our Chief Executive Officer, Tim Brown, received the Industry Leadership Award. An outstanding achievement for Tim, who has led the transformation of Jersey Post from island postal authority to an end-to-end global logistics provider with operations on four continents. The Industry Leadership Award recognises the exemplary leadership of an individual in advancing the mail, parcels or express industry. This coveted award has been won by some of the most prestigious names in the global delivery industry. Tim has over 30 years’ experience in the post, parcel and distribution industry. He has worked in senior positions in Royal Mail and DHL Express, was CEO of Postcomm, provided advice to government and was vicechair of the European Regulators’ Group for Post.

68

“Naturally I am over the moon to have won the Industry Leadership Award, I’m really quite humbled,” commented Tim. “Whilst I am delighted that my work has been recognised, it’s really important to understand that I wouldn’t have won this award if it wasn’t for the hard work, dedication and commitment from everyone within the Group that has supported our growth strategy and helped to implement change at every level, especially in light of the challenges posed by the last two years.”

N E W S F E AT U R E

At the awards ceremony, it was a night of dual celebration, with Jersey Post also winning the ‘Philatelic Campaign of the Year’, for its innovative ‘Lockdown birds’ stamp issue. The winning stamps, which feature eight colourful ‘lockdown birds’, are the result of a creative collaboration between Jersey Post and Berni Martin, a Jersey resident who set herself a project to paint a bird every day during Jersey’s first Covid-19 lockdown, each bird a reflection of her mood on that particular day. Brought to life by Jersey Post’s philatelic team, the stamps generated a powerful response, and the story was picked up internationally, with articles appearing in Germany, Italy, China and the US.

Our Group Marketing Director, David McGrath said of the win, “We are extremely honoured to receive this award. Every year, Jersey Post endeavours to deliver a quality and innovative stamp programme; we’re extremely proud of the work that we do, and we’re thrilled to be recognised at the World Post and Parcel Awards. For us, the ‘Flockdown’ stamps are a perfect example of the power of philately to connect people. The designs resonated with people around the world, creating a sense of community through our shared experience of the pandemic.”

INTRODUCING JERSEY POST GROUP’S NEW HR DIRECTOR S TE VE SCOT T Born and brought up in Glasgow, Steve initially joined financial services in Glasgow, then moved to Edinburgh into a HR role when he was 21 (and hasn’t managed to escape from HR ever since). He met his wife in Edinburgh, they had a young family and moved to the Border town of Peebles, prior to moving to Jersey in 2008 when Steve joined RBS International as HR Director. He came to Jersey initially on a three-year assignment and never left - lots of reasons for still being here and not just because the summers are better than they are in Scotland! Steve left RBSI in 2018 and spent three and a half years working as an HR Consultant on the Team Jersey programme, working to build a positive workplace culture across the Government of Jersey. RBSI and GOJ gave Steve two amazing and very unique experiences on Jersey, with the third one following on 1 April when he joined Jersey Post as HR Director. Steve says “I can’t thank you all enough for the warm welcome I’ve had from everyone since I arrived, it’s very much appreciated and I’m really looking forward to working with you all”.

I can’t thank you all enough for the warm welcome.

Outside of work, Steve has three children and his wife works as an occupational therapist for JET at Acorn - a cat and a dog complete the Scott family. Weekends will often find them walking the dog on the west of the island, going for a coffee or watching their boys play football for their clubs and the Jersey Bulls…if anyone follows the Bulls look out for Steve’s sons Robbie (goalkeeper) and Harry (midfield).

The award was given at Jersey Employment Trust’s 20th Anniversary conference held at L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa on Tuesday 26 April 2022. The conference was a day for celebration, with ten of the Island’s employers and agencies being presented awards. Each of the award plaques were beautifully handcrafted at JET’s Acorn wood shack, one of their training and development sites. Four workshops also took place at the conference focussing on mental health, accessibility, insights to the work of JET and incentives for employers, with Frank Gardner OBE also present as the keynote speaker for the day. Jersey Post Human Resources Partner, Robin Pestana, attended the conference and accepted the award on the business’s behalf. Robyn stated, “The JET conference was extremely insightful into how JET can support businesses and they provided useful information within their workshops. The atmosphere was amazing and the speakers were very inspirational. It was lovely to see how many businesses worked so closely with them and was great to meet many individuals. Hopefully we will be invited back to attend more in the future! “ Jersey Post prides itself on having a close working relationship with Jersey Employment Trust. The invaluable organisation provides support to clients with a wide range of disabilities, mental health conditions and long-term health conditions and assists over 550 Islanders each year via their Training and Development Service and Employment Services. 71
