aylor Lewis, Jr. was born on February 2, 1932, in Red Banks, Mississippi to the late Taylor Lewis, Sr. and Susie Lewis Neely. Taylor, who was affectionately known as “Uncle Paul” professed a hope in Christ at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church under the leadership of Reverend A. Y. Crutcher. As a young child, he attended Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Red Banks, Mississippi and Byhalia Rosenwald High School.

In “Uncle Paul’s” early adulthood, he sang in a gospel group at St. Paul M.B. Church in Byhalia, Mississippi. After becoming a young adult, he moved to Memphis where he drove a cab and worked factory jobs to provide for his mother and younger sibilings. Upon “Uncle Paul’s” arrival to Memphis, he united with Greater New Shiloh M. B. Church under the leadership of Dr. Fred C. Lofton.
Soon after, “Uncle Paul” relocated to Chicago, Illinois and purchased a cab along with securing a job with Vulcan until his retirement. After forty plus years and becoming ill, he returned to Memphis where he lived with his brother, Robert James. After the passing of his brother, he moved with his niece, Mary Tunstall-Snow, who cared for him faithfully along with his loving caregiver, great-great-niece Jasmin Dennis and greatnephew Lamonte Woods who assisted. His siblings and relatives visited him frequently.
“Uncle Paul” fought a good fight, he finished his course, and he answered the call to lay down his earthly tabernacle and enter eternal rest on Saturday, December 30, 2017.
Preceding him in death were siblings, Roosevelt Lewis, Arthur Lee Lewis, Bernice Lewis-Tunstall, Samuel Lewis and Robert James Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his many memories, siblings; Charles E. Lewis (June), Leon Neely, Sr. (Melva), Jessie Neely (Effie), Christine Neely-Kelly and Alfred Neely, Sr. (ArLinda). “Uncle Paul” was affectionately called “Daddy” by Linda Nelson (Kenneth) whom he raised and loved unconditionally along with her three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He also helped raise seven children in Chicago who called him, “Grand-Dad” and he loved them as they sincerely loved him. He was also a dear friend to Ms. Gertrude Roswell.

A Tree will be planted in a National Forest as a Living Memorial to Tarylor Lewis, Jr. This service is offered by Harrison’s Memorial Chapel, Inc. through Batesville Casket Company, the United States Forest Service and Ontario Canada’s Grand Valley Conservation Foundation.
