The Life Story of

Mr. Robert Lee Tate, Sr. Mr. Robert Lee Tate Sr. was born August 8, 1933, in Tate County, Mississippi, to the late Robert Ford Tate and Annie Mae Tate (Jamison).

He made his transition into his eternity on Monday, June 14, 2021, at Baptist Hospital.

He had a strong love for family, a keen eye for fashion, with a very affectionate smile.

On May 9, 1949, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Effie Mae Tate. To this union, nine children were born. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 68 years. Of the nine children, three preceded him: Robert Lee Tate, Jr., Herbert Lee Tate, and Doris Bryant Harris. Three sisters preceded him in death: Hattie Bell, Arlillie Taylor, and Thelma McBride.

Affectionately referred to as “Buddy” to some and “Papa Tate” to others spent most of his life as a truck driver and entrepreneur. He was a man of many facets; he created opportunities for him and his family by opening a neighbor grocery, “Tate Sundry.”

Robert ensured that family time was a priority. He confessed his love for Christ at an early age. He had a love for BBQ and music. These values were instilled in him during his development with the help of Ida Belle Tate. he was a man of simplicity.

Reflections

Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory: six children, Janis Faye Tate, Melvin Tate, Effie Williams (Zachary), Calvin Tate, Debra Tate Davis, and Glenda Renae Ingram (Kevin); twenty-one grandchildren; one sister-in-law Idessie West and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
