Acknowledgements
~ ~ During this time, we are reminded of how deeply our family and friends mean to us. Your kindness, sympathy, and friendship have brought comfort and strength, and they will always remain in our hearts. We sincerely thank you for your many prayers, calls, visits, flowers, cards, food, and every thoughtful expression of love and support. We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the V.A. Hospital, Hope Hospice and Palliative Team, Chaplain R.C. Rayborn, Jr., Antionette (Day Nurse), and Katrina (Night Nurse) for their care and support.
From the Nine of Us In the back of your mind you knew it was always there ~ But out front… …you never saw it coming ~ We believe, you’re not ever really prepared for it… …not totally ~ Even…when you’ve prepared for it ~ We’ve taken things for granted and with this we’ve asked God to forgive us ~ When God eased away your last breath, we cried out to Him, “no, not yet!” “we want to keep our nine!” But He let us know in His own loving way, “it’s time my children, ‘til you meet again someday.”

Life’s Reflections
Jerome Whitaker, 61, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away at home on August 18, 2026. He was born on August 23, 1964, in the historic district of Orange Mound Community. Jerome dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age and, despite life’s challenges, remained steadfast in his faith. After graduating from East High School, Jerome proudly served in the United States Navy. He later worked in construction and enjoyed fishing, grilling, and listening to blues music. Known to many as “D.J. Jr.,” he had a passion for music and found great joy in bringing people together and making others smile. Jerome was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Whitaker Sr.; his mother, Bertha R. Guy; and his brother, Rev. James Stanback. He leaves to cherish his memory his nine siblings: William Stanback, Charline (Thomas) Hullom, Melvin (Roberta) Stanback, Ken Stanback, Mariah Catron, Willie Stanback, Charlie Whitaker Jr., Vickie (Randy) Watson, and LaShonda Stanback; two uncles, Ellis (Betty) Wilson and Hershell Wilson Jr.; one great aunt, Maudeva Wilson; a special friend, Jacqueline McLemore; close friends, Edward Redd and Samantha Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
