Life’s Reflections

Gordon

Russell Taylor, Sr., affectionately known as “Russell,” was born on November 9, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Georgia A. Taylor and Chester A. Evans. From an early age, Russell exhibited a gentle spirit and a love for music and craftsmanship that would remain with him throughout his life.

Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. His time in the service allowed him to explore the world, meet people from all walks of life, and develop a greater apprecation for duty and honor. His military service was a defining chapter of his life, one he carried with pride.

Beyond his military, Russell was a master carpenter whose brought visions to life. He built not only structures but a reputation of excellence and trust. In addition, he was a natural-born entrepreneur, always thinking creatively and working hard to support and uplift those heard it.

A gifted musician, Russell found peace and joy in playing his guitar. Whether playing for family or with various bands, his music spoke to his soul and brought comfort and happiness to those who heard it.

Gordon found great joy and peace when he became a member of Faith Tabernacle International Ministry..Under the leadership of Elder Jerome Ross. The church members quickly became like family to him, offering love, support, and fellowship that meant the world to him. Gordon was a faithful and consistent member. He built lasting relationships within the congregation and was known for his kind nature and sincere faith. Gordon was a dependable member who took his role in the church seriously, always showing up with a smile and a servant’s heart.

A talented guitarist, Gordon used his musical gift to worship and bring encouragement to others. Whether playing during service or quietly practicing, his passion for music and ministry never went unnoticed. His commitment to his faith and his church community will be remembered fondly by all who worshipped beside him.

Russell’s proudest legacy wasn’t found his craftsmanship or achievements - ot was in the lives of his children. He belived in raising them with vaules of hard work, respect, and love. As a father, he was steady and strong, yet tender in his affection. He celebrated their milestones and stood by them through every season of life. His love for his children was the thread that wove his life together.

For him, fatherhood was more than a resposibity it was a divine calling. He saw each of his children as a blessing and honored that gift with his time, wisdom, and love.

Russell leaves behind a legacy of love and strength througth his three sons, Antonio Bailey (ShaRonda), Gordon R. Taylor, Jr., and Marcus C. Taylor. His four daughters; Stacy Taylor, Tracy Taylor-Benson (Michael Ray) Carmen Taylor (Ricky), and Erica Taylor-Hodges (Kenny) to carry his legacy forward with grace and resilence.

He also embraced and helped raise three bonus sons who held a special place in his heart; Montae Collins (Tracy), Anthony McGowan (Michelle), and Herb Kneeland, Jr. Russell’s love knew no boundaries, and his guidance left a lasting impact on all of his children.

Russell is survived by 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of loving cousins, family, and friends. His warm smile, wise words, and giving spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Family Tree

A limb has fallen from the family tree I hear a voice that whispers, “Grieve not for me”

Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs

The good I lived while I was strong

Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you

Keep on smiling, the sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest

Remembering all...how I was truly blessed

Continue traditions, no matter how small

Go om with your lives, don’t stare at the wall I miss you all dearly so keep up your chin
