On August 31, 1920, Gonzella Alexander Willams was born to her proud parents, Richard and Cornelius Alexander.
Gonzella accepted Christ at an early age at the historic New Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church. She was a past President of the choir and instrumental in many other auxiliaries.
On April 6, 1941, she became the proud wife to her late husband, Reverend Leo Williams, Sr. They were married for 67 incredible years until his demise in 2008.
Gonzella displayed her ability to lead in all things she did. She was a past President of the PTA and a President of the Band Booster’s Club at TW Patterson High School. She was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star. Gonzella also worked for the Memphis Police Department as a School Crossing Guard at several schools in the White Station Community. Her hobbies included cooking, cleaning her home, rummage sales, grocery shopping, and spending quality time with her family. The love of God and reading the Bible was her all-time favorite. She enjoyed listening to Beverly Crawford’s “He’s Done Enough.” Despite life’s ups and downs, she understood that her Heavenly Father was involved in all things.
On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at 2:57 P.M. Gonzella Alexander Williams completed her earthly mission, after 99 beautiful years of life, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her only son, Reverend Leo H. Williams, Jr. (Debra). Her memories will be cherished by her children; Cornellius W. Bolden, Mamie L. Williams, Josephine Williams Boddie (Sherman) and Gloria A. Williams-McGhee (John), one sister, Vera (Velma) Barnes, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
