Life’s Reflections
Frankie Louise Williams was the only child born of Addie Felton and Frank Fields in Oakville, TN, on March 4, 1928. Due to the death of her parents at an early age, she was raised by her Aunt Mozella Ruby Jackson Franklin (First Director of Orange Mound Day Care).
She graduated Salutatorian from Geeter High School in 1948. Soon after graduating, she joined Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully. Frankie met her sweetheart, Eddie Lee Williams, and they were the proud parents of son Michael Darrell and two daughters, Greta Joy and Sharon Elaine. She treasured her family and enjoyed making their house a loving home for her children and their friends. Frankie was a talented seamstress and was known for the beautiful Easter dresses and clothes made for Greta and Sharon. Once the children were older, she furthered her education, became an Operating Room Technician and worked dutifully at Baptist Memorial Hospital Central for 27 years.
Frankie and Eddie Lee were proud homeowners in Orange Mound, and she was featured in the documentary film about the historical community. Her vivid recall of families and events of the community was so detailed; you envisioned being there. Frankie had the gift of remembering everything, and she often shared stories about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as if it happened yesterday. If you had the pleasure of knowing her, you know that she never met a stranger. Her sweet smile and kind spirit greeted everyone who crossed her path, and if you talked to her long enough, she probably knew someone you were related to. Outside of family life and her career, she was very active in the William Davis Memorial Sunday School class, The Deborah Circle Missionary Society, the B.R. Danner Club, as well as the Veterans Hospital Chorus. Frankie served loyally with the Stewardess Board, Gospel Choir, and the Pisgah Performers. One of her greatest joys was participating as a member of the Memphis & Shelby County Unit of Church Women United. Their annual drive to collect Easter outfits for children held a special place in her heart.
Frankie was blessed to live a full and joyful life and doted on four generations of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Eddie Lee Williams; loving daughter, Greta Joy Williams and son-in-law Larry Jackson. Her memory will be deeply cherished and missed by her children Sheila Grant (daughter), son Michael Williams (Barbara), and daughter Sharon Jackson. Her grandchildren Brian Williams-Norris, who assisted and stood by her side daily, Marquita Williams (Rick), LTC Christopher Williams (Angel), Apryl Gibson (Jeffrey), Larry Jackson, Jr. (Nevonda), Jessica Jackson, Nakia Coleman (Alecia), Wakeela Simmons (Amiya) and Osmana Abbal-Khallaq who all lingered onto the many stories about her life and the history of Memphis. Her pearls of wisdom will be held close by 11 great-grandchildren and a host of loving cousins, friends, devoted church members, and individuals who loved her as their Mom.
