Life’s Reflections

Evietta

J. Alexander was born August 11, 1942, to the late Andrew Jones, Sr, and Katherine Bradshaw Jones in Memphis, TN. She accepted Christ at New Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church. She departed this life and entered eternal rest at Methodist Germantown Hospital on December 27, 2025.

Evietta graduated from T.W. Patterson High School and pursued higher education at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. She was a devoted teacher in the Memphis City School system until her retirement. After retirement, she continued to support many family members, neighbors, and friends in their pursuit of educational goals.

Evietta developed a passion for teaching at a young age. For over 30 years, she inspired young minds, where she was known for her unwavering belief in every child’s potential. Generations of students remember Evietta not only for the lessons taught in the classroom but also for the encouragement, laughter, and life lessons that shaped their futures. Outside of teaching, she cherished time with her family and was a devoted and faithful member of New Philadelphia until her health declined, serving in various capacities, including Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher. Evietta was affectionately known by her close friends and family as “Rabbit”.

Preceding her in death are two brothers, Andrew Jones Jr, Eddie Lee Jones, and two sisters, Joyce Ann Gilland and Clara Jean Stotts.

Evietta leaves to cherish her memory: her niece Latonya Gilland Willingham (Daagi), two nephews, Keith Andre Jones Sr., and Lorenzo Logan. Three great nephews, DeJuan Ingram (Kayla), Keith Andre Jones Jr., Eric Robinson, one great niece, Tarsha Logan, cousin, Darlene Robinson and a host of great-great nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her friend and longtime caregiver, Betty Kane.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Miss Me But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take And each must go alone. It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss Me But Let me Go!

~ Acknowledgements ~ Words cannot adequately express our gratitude to each of you for your comforting expressions of sympathy. Your many acts of kindness, prayers, and words of encouragement have helped to strengthen us for the journey. It is our prayer the Lord will continue to bless you all real good. ~The Family
