Life’s Reflections
Eddie Mae Maggit, affectionately known to many as “Mama Cookie,” was the fourth of fifteen children born to the late Ed and Bertha Maggit. She was born on December 22, 1943, in Claremont, Mississippi.
At an early age, Eddie Mae confessed Christ and was baptized at Adams Chapel Baptist Church, where she faithfully served. She sang in the church choir and was the lead singer of The Maggit Sisters, a gospel group formed with her sisters, Augusta and Lillie. Music and faith remained a meaningful part of her life.
Eddie Mae received her early education at Madison Elementary Church School through the sixth grade. She then attended Dublin Elementary/Middle School, where she completed the eighth grade. She later enrolled at Coahoma Agricultural High School and graduated in 1964.
After high school, Eddie Mae moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. During this time, she became the proud mother of two children, Derrick Haney and Freddie Denise Robinson. After many years in Chicago, she moved back to Memphis, Tennessee, where she married James Jackson, and one child, Jonathan Jackson, was born to this union.
In her later years, Eddie Mae was a devoted member of House of Prayer Church in Memphis, Tennessee, under the leadership of Bishop David Cooper, where she faithfully served on the Mother Board, sang with the Anointed Voices, and served with the Pearls of Wisdom until her passing. She was deeply loved and cherished by her church family, who will forever remember her faithfulness, kindness, and loving spirit.
Eddie Mae transitioned from labor to reward on December 20, 2025. She was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Maggit, her beloved sons, Derrick Haney and Jonathan Jackson, and her grandson, Jarvis Jackson. She would have celebrated her 82nd birthday on December 22, 2025.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughter Freddie Denise Robinson (Ivory) (TN); her granddaughter, Kherrio Jackson (TN) a daughter-n-law Donna Jackson(TN) two stepchildren LaShon Hearns- Gurrella(IL) and Derrick “Bobo” Hearns(IL) one adopted son Tavias Ford(TN) two brothers, Grady Brown (FL) and Robert Maggit (IL); five sisters, Augusta Baggett (OH), Lillie Gladney (MI), Lottie Maggit (IL), Bertha Nelson (TN), and Lucy Maggit (KY); a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; She also leaves her beloved friends and church family who will forever hold her memory dear.

Recessional
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
