Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work, to play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My Life’s been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch,

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.

Reflections of Life

ora Mae Chatman was born August 7, 1936, in Leflore County, Mississippi, to the Late Mattie Kuykendoll and Ruth Morgan.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was Baptized at Jacob’s Chapel, by the late Rev. Robertson. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Willie Chatman on July 6, 1959.

She moved to Memphis, TN. in December 1965 and joined Greater New Salem M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. G.B. Brown. Later she joined New Antioch M.B. Church under the late Robert L. Mitchell; later renamed to Fellowship of Believers in Christ under Pastor Joseph T. Jackson. She was an active member on the Usher Board, until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by (1) sister – Dorothy Strong, (3) brothers- Ruth Morgan, Harvey Martin, and Robert Johnson.

Dora leaves to cherish her memories with her (7) childrenJames L. Martin (Verna), Dorothy Isom (Melvin), Mary Moore (Charles), Willie Chatman, Jr. (Lisa) of Chicago, Illinois, Archie Chatman, Albert Chatman, and Paul Chatman. (2) sisters- Ruby Johnson and Rosie Mae Carter of Joliet, Illinois. (1) brotherChandler Johnson, III. (1) sister-in-law - Betty Morgan of Flint, Michigan, (18) grandchildren, (20) great-grandchildren, and (1) great-great-grand, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
