Life’s Reflections

Ms. Deborah Kay Benson was born on April 28, 1962, to Willie and Louise Benson in Orange Mound, Tennessee. She went on to her forever home on February 4, 2026. She was a talented basketball player, competing for Melrose High School from 1978 to 1982, Northwest Mississippi Community College from 1982 to 1983, and the University of North Alabama from 1984 to 1985, earning numerous accolades throughout her athletic career.

Ms. Benson served for over 30 years at McDonald’s and was a longtime member of Jordan River Ministries. She enjoyed traveling with family, watching movies, and savoring her favorite foods.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Al, and her sister Cheri. She is survived by her sister Eva Cox-Jones of Atlantic City, New Jersey; her brother Sgt. Major Wilbur Benson of Daegu, South Korea; her sister-in-law Seongnam Benson of Seoul, South Korea; three nieces-De’Anna Benson, Dominique Benson, and Shay Benson-and three nephews-Baron Jefferys, Cortland Benson, and Wilbur Benson Jr.-all of Tennessee, along with numerous cousins, friends, and fellow athletes.

Ms. Benson will be remembered for her generous spirit, her joyful presence, and the lasting impact she made on her community.
