Awoman of undeniable faith, Cheryl Yvonne McDaniel was born March 29, 1961, to Joseph and Katherine McDaniel. She loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a child. Cheryl loved life, was strong and inquisitive, and showed early on that she would not be denied anything once she set her mind to it. And so, it was with her two older brothers. She proved that she could hang with them and their friends but often reminded them to never forget that she was their parents’ baby girl!
Cheryl graduated from Hamilton High School, attended Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, and the University of Memphis, and earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Paralegal Studies from Christian Brothers. Cheryl’s deep trust in God enabled her to be resilient and courageous. She was a critical thinker and a strategist: skills that would become more evident in her 30+ year career as a paralegal.
Cheryl spent most of her life as an active member of Saint Andrew AME Church with her mother, Katherine. Her voice was rhythmic, and her laugh was musical. She loved to sing and was a member of The Elmer Martin Singers, LeChorale, and Voices of The Saint (VOTS) until health challenges prevented her from singing with the choir, but never from critiquing the choir’s ministry on Sundays. She was ever-present in her ‘usual spot’ in the congregation, praising God, standing strong in faith, even in challenging circumstances, and acting with grace and love, reflecting God’s character in her actions and interactions with others.
Gerald’s and Cheryl’s friendship began after choir rehearsal one evening. Cheryl’s uncle, O D Adams, introduced them by saying, “Do you know my niece? This is Kat’s daughter.” This chance introduction sparked an amazing, exhilarating, and awesome dating relationship that lasted nearly 20 years. The only real test of their relationship came early. Cheryl was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. Gerald had disavowed the NFL since their strike. He was a diehard Memphis State University Tigers fan. Cheryl was not. Eventually, and because he really cared for her, Gerald converted to Cowboyism! The rest is history. On October 29, 2022, the couple wed before approximately three hundred witnesses at Saint Andrew.
Cheryl fiercely LOVED the Lord, her Momma, Gerald, and her goddaughter, Adalynn. She was amazingly kind and generous to her family, friends, and the less fortunate.
On February 21, 2026, in the stillness of the afternoon, Cheryl Yvonne McDaniel Greene slipped quietly, sweetly, peacefully, into God’s arms, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her mother, Katherine Adams McDaniel; bonus children, Mareo Chavez (LeNore) Greene, DeMia Chanyse Greene, and Rev. Lettie Clark; goddaughter, Adalynn “Beans” Clark; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Greene; brothers, Kevin McDaniel and Joseph McDaniel, II; and father, Joseph McDaniel, Sr.
