I just want to say how much I’m going to miss my mom. I’m going to miss our morning and daily conversations. I’m going to miss her daily death and hospital reports I would get from her daily, I’m going miss saying ma that’s enough of the death reports can we please talk about something else, I’m going to miss how she would say okay let’s talk about what you want to talk about. I would tell her that I’m out looking at houses and she would say is that all you do son. I’m going to miss the duo calls showing her houses. I’m going to miss telling her mom you need a man and her telling me as long as she has Jesus, she doesn’t need a man, I’m going to miss joking with her about setting her up a Christian mingle profile (in which I did but she never knew) if she had found out my mom would kill. I’m going to miss my mom, my best friend, my personal diary and just my overall comforter that knew exactly what to say to make you feel better. I love you mom and I’m going to miss you dearly.

Life’s Reflections

renda Rene Hudson was born September 5, 1960, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the union of Haywood and Odester Hudson. She was one of nine children.

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.

In life we loved you dearly: in death we do the same It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone For part of us went with you, the day God called you Home You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

Brenda attended Messick High school, Shelby State Community College, and the University of Memphis. She retired from Memphis City Schools.

On January 13, 2022, God smiled on Brenda Rene Hudson and said, servant, well done.

Brenda I am so fortunate that God blessed me to share this journey called life with you it is unfortunate that our journey stops here you have been my prayer partner my friend, my confidante, and my sister I take comfort in knowing that heaven has gained beautiful soul our friendship was genuine and for that I am grateful I always cherish our talks I’m going to miss you calling to say “ I’m not feeling well but I don’t want to make you laugh right quick” during your worst times you wanted to make me laugh that was truly a blessing to me. I would hang up and thank God for you. Your love for the Lord and your sons were beyond measure I will continue to pray for them in your absence as you requested I thank God that during our last few phone calls we left nothing unsaid somebody once said that “the only time goodbye is painful when you know you’ll never be able to say hello again “our story is finished but I’m not ready to close the book I will end this like we end all of our conversation to the last three years simply by saying I love you my sister.

Brenda confessed hope at an early age and united with St. Peter M.B church, where she was baptized under the leadership of Rev. C.S Gaston. She was a member of the choir youth advisor and children’s period instructor that she loved so much. She was a faithful member until her health failed.

Brenda loved her family. She never met a stranger.

Proceeding her in death was her father and mother Haywood Hudson Sr. and Odester Hudson. Her brother, Vernon Downey’s wife, who she loved Eva Downey.

Brenda leaves to cherish her children, Michael Pickens, Jr. (Scarlett) and Darryl Pickens Sr. (Patrice). Scarlett and Patrice “I love like I birthed them into the world.” two daughters; LaKita Coats (Quinton) and Amber Pickens, four brothers; Vernon Downey “my Rock,” Ronnie Bradfield, Haywood Hudson, Jr. (Pamela), and Lonnie Hudson, four sisters; Dorothy Hunter, Dorothy Washington (Leslie), Debra Hill (Thomas), and Gail Douglas (Redonno), two aunts; Erma Jene Owens and Emma Lee Rome, nine grandchildren that she loved from the deep depths of her heart, mind, and soul, Courtney Ross, Kwamae Taylor, Lauren Pickens, Kayla Pickens, Kamari Scott, Darryl Pickens Jr, Paris Pickens, Lance Pickens, Ivory Odester Pickens, Twenty-two nieces, and nephews; twenty great-nieces and nephews; a host of cousins and friends, god-sisters that she loved dearly; Vonda Perry, Pam Merriweather, Dedriene Rogers, Marveeiaa Sanders, Leslie Mack, Cassandra Hendricks, Pamela Lewis, Sharon Phillips, and godbrother; Marlon Alexander and a very dear friend and husband for life Michael Jerome Pickens Sr. that she will always cherish.

Hey Granny, its Lauren. I want to let you know how grateful I am to have you in my life. You are truly a blessing from God. You will be missed very much, and I hate to see you leave so soon but I know that you are in a better place. You have an amazing heart and soul. You made sure that everybody was good even when you were at your lowest. You have always been there for me no matter how little the problem was. If I couldn’t count on anybody else, I could for sure count on you. You gave me everything no questions asked. There’s a saying “people say time heals all wounds that someday the pain will subside” but granny I can tell you I think they must have lied. It truly hurts me so much that you had to leave but God put you in a better place. I love you so much and when I accomplish all my goals, I am going to come visit you and tell you everything and let you know I did. It. Your oldest Granddaughter Lauren Pickens.

You never hung the phone up without saying I love you my brother you never forgot me even when you didn’t feel your best, I’m thankful God saw fit for you to be my sister no matter what you showed me who I was to you for that I am grateful sleep well my sister, sleep well.
