Life’s Reflections

Bobbye

J. George, age 64, left our world on June 8, 2025, but her spirit and love will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Bobbye was a beacon of support and wisdom, always ready with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a hug that could lift anyone’s spirits. Her laughter and resilience brightened the lives of many, and she leaves behind a profound legacy of kindness and strength that will continue to inspire us all.

Born on July 4, 1960, in Clarksdale, MS, Bobbye was the cherished daughter of Elmira Johnson and JB Eley Sr., both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Oakhaven High School in Memphis, TN, and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. Bobbye was an integral part of the Eureka Missionary Baptist Church community, where she served as an usher for over 30 years, a beloved choir director, and a dedicated member of the kitchen ministry, always eager to lend a helping hand.

An avid softball player, Bobbye shone brightly on the field as a star catcher for the Oakhaven Hawks, Tennessee Outlaws, and “Bad Attitudes.” Her passion for the game was a testament to her spirited nature and determination.

Bobbye will be profoundly missed by her children: Latosha Hill (James, preceded in death), Alexis Griggs (Lemmie Griggs), Charles Taylor Jr., and Lapamela Overstreet. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Reco Hamor (Ashley), Kedra Johnson (preceded in death), Keeley Williams Jr., Kurt Fleming Jr., Kelvin Johnson, Lashundra Overstreet, Briana Dunbar, Cameron Johnson, Coby Taylor, and Chase Taylor. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Keeley Williams III, Karlmelo Williams, Raelyn Williams, and Khali Williams.

On her mother’s side, she is lovingly remembered by Annie Pearl Walker, Gertrude Washington (CL), Chester “Dean” Johnson, Jessie Johnson, William “Will” Johnson (deceased), Willie “Wimp” Johnson (deceased), Anthony “Tonio” Johnson (deceased), and Bobby Joe Johnson (deceased). From her father’s side, she leaves cherished memories with David Ealy, JB Ealy Jr. (deceased), Robert Wilson, Delphine Wilson, Sylvester Wilson, Queen Wilson, Grace Myles, and Jerline Harris.

Bobbye’s loving spirit also touched the lives of a host of cousins, family members, and countless friends. She shared a special bond with her dear friend, Eric Johnson, whom she loved deeply. Bobbye was truly remarkable, and her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone she encountered.

“For those who never knew her, I’m sorry for your loss.”

Recessional

Just close your eyes and you will see

All the memories that you have of me

Just sit and relax and you will find I’m really still there inside your mind

Don’t cry for me now I’m gone

For I am in the land of song

There is no pain, there is no fear

So dry away that silent tear

Don’t think of me in the dark and cold

For here I am, no longer old

I’m in that place that’s filled with love

Known to you all, as “UP ABOVE”.

Grandma

You fed me well, you made me strong.

You taught me to know right from wrong.

You made me feel that I belong.

You showed me the value of a song.

You gave me life; you gave me love.

You always knew the way I felt.

You used the words you thought might heal.

You convinced me it was no big deal.

Your advice would keep it real.

You gave me life; you gave me love.

Broken hearts you liked to mend. It was not in your nature to offend.

Birthday cards you’d always send.

You knew the value of family and friends.

You give me life; you give me love.

You left me now; you’ve gone away. I’m left behind; I have to stay.

So I’ll just have to pray.

I’ll meet you again another day.

You always had that ‘special touch’. I loved you so very, very much.

You gave me life; you gave me love.

Please watch over me from above.

From Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren

God saw you were getting tired, And a cure was not to be, So he put his arms around you, And whispered, “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes, we watched you, And saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us that He only takes the best.
