I wish so much you wouldn’t cry, the way you did today, while thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say I know how much you love me, as much as I love you, and each time you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.

Reflections of Life for Mrs. Angie Corrine Griffin Crawford A

ngie Corrine Griffin Crawford was born to Mr. & Mrs. Booker and Tossie Griffin on August 22, 1928, in Batesville, Mississippi. She was a unique child and suffered an illness at a young age that almost ended her life. During this illness, she awoke from a state of non-responsiveness and said, “Mother, just pray, and it will be alright.” Her mother was overwhelmed at this response and prayed. Angie recovered from this illness and lived a life committed to prayer.

She accepted Christ and was converted at Mt. Zion MB Church in Sardis, Mississippi, at an early age. She would walk to church and pray for the soldiers during World War II with the older women of prayer. As a young girl, she would pray that God would save souls during revivals, and God would do exactly that. My mother met every challenge of her life with pray. Mother’s life was grounded upon her faith in Jesus Christ.

Angie Corrine Griffin entered into holy matrimony with Mr. Joseph Clarence Crawford. They were members of Martin Temple CME Church. Three doctors informed the couple that she would never have children. She prayed for children three times, and God blessed her with three children; Joseph Jr., Toni, and Jacqueline. Prayer was common and expected in the Crawford household. She taught and demonstrated prayer to her children and extended family. During home prayer meeting, mother would say, “Tell the Lord, thank you.” “Open your mouth and praise God, she would say.” Our house was a house of prayer.

The bathroom was the place that she would pray in the early hours of the morning and later at night. In the 1960’s in South Memphis, a neighbor told her, “I open my bathroom window to hear you pray before I go to sleep.” In the 1970’s she would go over to her neighbors’ houses and pray with them, and God would bless. She would pray on the phone with other women of prayer. She would pray and anoint us with oil for any and all illnesses.

In Memphis, she eventually united with Holy Temple Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson and later Temple of Deliverance. It was under this ministry that she had an experience with the Holy Ghost that changed her life forever. Her passion for Christ intensified. Mother Crawford would share the testimony of Christ with anyone who would listen.

As life would happen, she later joined Miracle Temple Ministers under the leadership of Apostle Benjamin Lee Smith. It was at this ministry that she accepted the assignment to pray and facilitate noonday prayer. She was faithful in the prayer for approximately eight years. Mother Crawford would pray every day at noon for at least an hour. During this time, she prayed and encouraged others to develop a prayer life. She would be happy when others would come to prayer, but she enjoyed praying alone and sometimes preferred it.

She later started prayer meetings at Bethel Tower Senior, where she lived. The residents enjoyed this fellowship and prayer ministry. This strengthened their walk with the Lord and increased unity in their community. The prayer meeting grew, and non-residents would come and participate in the prayer meetings.

After several health challenges, I could no longer provide care for mother at my home. Mother became a resident of Parkway Nursing Home. As a resident, she continued to inform others that “It was just Jesus!” She participated in the facility church services and bible studies.

On October 31, 2020; Mother responded to the voice of our heavenly Father that her assignment was complete and to come home. She is now in the great cloud of witnesses with other family members and friends. She can now embrace her husband Mr. Joseph Clarence Crawford; daughter, Toni Renee Tate; sister, Vernell Cox; brother, Otis Griffin and her parents.

She leaves a legacy of prayer and two children, Joseph Crawford (Susan), Elder Jacqueline Washington (Clifton), and seven grandchildren, Robert, Stephanie, Natasha, Ebony, Terry, Joshua, and Randal. She has eleven great-grandchildren. Her living siblings are Rosie Lee Lamar, James Griffin, Tyrone Griffin (Paula), Robert Griffin (Charlene), Terry Griffin, Mary Moore, and Rose Sweet.

Finally, my mother was a church mother and spiritual mother to countless individuals and will be missed by many.
