Here are a few very family-friendly areas to visit.

The trails, open spaces and parks service (TOPS) and the Pikes Peak Library Fountain Creek Regional District have partnered and are offering nature packs designed for 7-13 year olds loaded with everything needed for over 30 Park and Nature Center (see “El Paso County Parks” in Sports & outdoor activities that will have them Recreation section). Ponds and marshes exploring and observing a wide variety of environments in the local parks. Log on to the Parks and Rec webpage allow for lots of turtle and bird viewing including cormorants and great blue herons! at www.coloradosprings.gov North Cheyenne Canon Park (see Regional Parks in Sports and Recreation section). Discovery Center, Botanical Reserve, and a very short "hike" to the Silver Cascade Falls.

There are many miles of trails (maps are available) for easy and moderate hiking. A variety of guided tours for children can be accessed by calling 219-0105. They are very popular and reservations are required. Be sure to ask about the Junior Ranger Program if you’re 7-12 years old.
