cairn six for solo piano

2 cairn six for solo piano Performance Notes Pedaling The sustain pedal should be held down for the entirety of the first movement (as indicated in the score). All other pedal markings and instructions should be followed within the second movement. Fermatas and Breath Marks Each normal-length fermata should equal approximately one whole note value in the tempo indicated by the metronome value. Beyond this, any and all short and long fermatas should be determined in relation to the regular fermata. Breath marks (indicated by commas) should be of lesser duration than the short fermata. Octave Transpositions Almost all octave transpositions within the score will be indicated by the clefs (usually) at the beginnings of systems. Take care to observe any of these changes, as they are used throughout much of the work. Accidentals Sharps and flats apply to all repeated notes immediately following the sharpened/flattened pitch. Some repeated sharps and flats may be notationally reiterated within the score for the sake of clarity. Notation Crossed noteheads signify either a strumming/plucking of the piano strings OR the striking of a circular opening in the soundboard. Cluster notation signifies the slamming of the strings with one or more hands. Diamond noteheads signify any action involving moving the hands up or down a string or set of strings. An upwards arrow above said diamond notehead signifies a hand movement away from the keyboard up the string/strings; a downward arrow signifies a hand motion towards the keyboard on the string/strings. Rhythm staves (or staves with only one-to-two lines) signify the use of the crossbeams. The diagram below explains the location of each crossbeam, demarcated with a roman numeral above or below the noteheads; roman numerals apply to all repeated notes immediately following the notehead with the roman numeral. An "up bow" sign means to slam the strings with the palm and immediately release; a "down bow" means to slam the strings and not release immediately, so as to partially mute the strings after the attack.
