DESIGN CONCEPT
OUR GOAL IN THIS PROJECT IS TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE WE HAVE LEARNED DURING OUR FIRST SEMESTER IN ORDER TO APPLY DIFFERENT APPROACHES AND THE USE OF SPACE IN PLANNING FLOOR LAYOUTS. WE WERE FREE TO DESIGN LANDSCAPE ACCORDING TO HOW WE WANTED OUR MODEL TO APPEAR. THUS, I CHOSE A SLOPING DRIVEWAY TO THE GARAGE AND CONTINUOUS WATERFALLS TO DEMONSTRATE THAT THIS MODEL IS INTENDED TO BE RELAXING. INTERIOR DESIGN GOES FOR A WARM AND WELCOMING FEELING FOR RESIDENTS AND USE ALL SPACES OF THE CONTAINERS FOR GOOD PURPOSE. THE SPACES ARE PLANNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH RESIDENTS’ DAY TO DAY LIFE NEEDS.

THE OLD SHORELINE YOGA STUDIO IS LOCATED IN TOLLKEEPERS PARK, TORONTO ALONG DAVENPORT ROAD. THE BUILDING IS 815 SQ. FT. IN AREA AND HAS NINE ROOMS. THIS PROJECT PROPOSES A LAYOUT FOR A SUSTAINABLE AND BARRIER-FREE BUILDING. ALL LAYOUTS MUST BE APPROVED AND COMPLY WITH ONTARIO BUILDING CODE ZONING BYLAWS. THIS IS A GRAPHICAL PRESENTATION OF THE FLOOR PLANS FOR A BARRIER-FREE AND SUSTAINABLE BUILDING. THE MATERIALS WERE CAREFULLY SELECTED TO MAINTAIN THE CONCEPT DESIGN WITHOUT IMPINGING ON THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE BUILDING.

THE OLD SHORELINE MEDITATION AND YOGA STUDIO IS DESIGNED TO MAXIMIZE SUNLIGHT AND TO APPLY SUSTAINABLE DESIGNS TO MINIMIZE WATER AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION. WINDOWS ARE INSTALLED SO THAT CLIENTS CAN VIEW THE LANDSCAPE AND FEEL CONNECTED TO THE NATURE EVENTUALLY DOING YOGA.
THERE IS A WATER COLLECTOR LOCATED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING LOCATED NEXT TO THE WASHROOMS FOR EASY PIPING. SOLAR PANELS FACING THE SOUTH DIRECTION FOR BETTER SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE WHICH ARE INSTALLED ON THE ROOF. THESE SOLAR PANELS ARE EXPECTED TO OPERATE IN THEIR PURPOSE EVEN ON CLOUDY DAYS AND DURING THE WINTER SEASON. AN ELECTRIC RADIANT FLOOR HEATING SYSTEM IS ALSO INSTALLED
TO KEEP THE ROOM TEMPERATURE CONSISTENTLY WARM. EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR WALLS ARE PAINTED WITH ZERO VOC INTERIOR ODORLESS AND ECOFRIENDLY PAINT.

WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO PROVIDE PRESENTATION BOARDS OF THE SHOWROOM AND SECOND FLOOR OFFICE AREA. THE MAXIMUM AREA TO PROPOSED MUST BE 670 SQ. M. MAX FOR THE SHOWROOM AND OUR TEAM MUST PROVIDE FLOOR PLANS FOR ROOMS GIVEN TO US. AS PART OF THE PROJECT, WE HAVE DESIGNED 45 PARKING SPACES THAT COMPLY WITH VAUGHAN ZONING BYLAW AND 20 COVERED CHARGING STATIONS NEAR THE ENTRANCE/EXIT OF THE FACILITY WHICH WAS REQUESTED BY THE CLIENT. THIS PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO MAXIMIZE THE USE OF NATURAL LIGHT, ALONG WITH THE CONNECTION OF THE INTERIOR DESIGN TO THE EXTERIOR/LANDSCAPE DESIGN. BUILDING’S EXTERIOR IS COMPOSED OF CUSTOMIZED LOUVERS, CUSTOMIZED CLADDING, AND BRICKS, 80% OF THE BUILDING IS COVERED WITH CUSTOM LOUVERS. IT IS MADE OF PERFORATED AND ANODIZED ALUMINUM SHEETS WITH HEXAGONAL HONEYCOMB HOLES. IT MAY ALSO ATTRACT PEOPLE TO THE BUILDING DUE TO ITS UNIQUE DESIGN AND THE DIFFERENT APPROACH ANYONE GETS WHEN APPROACHING IT.
DURING THE DAY, THE BUILDING HAS OPENINGS THAT PROVIDE A BETTER VIEW OF THE SHOWROOM’S INTERIOR DESIGN FROM OUTSIDE AND ALLOW NATURAL LIGHT TO ENTER EASILY. THROUGHOUT THE SERVICE AREAS, WE USED ACRYLIC SOLID SMOOTH PANELS FOR A DIFFERENT APPROACH AND A DIFFERENT MATERIAL THAN USING ONE TYPE OF EXTERIOR FINISH. IN ROOMS WITHOUT OPENINGS, THE OVERHEAD DOORS WILL HAVE A MIXTURE OF GLASS AND ALLOY FINISH TO ALLOW NATURAL LIGHT TO PASS THROUGH.

THIS PROJECT IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE A COMFORTABLE, LARGE SPACE WITH A SOURCE OF NATURAL LIGHT AND A MODERN FINISH. THE AIM OF THE LAYOUT OF THIS RESIDENTIAL PROJECT IS TO USE THE MAXIMUM LOT AREA WHILE COMPLYING WITH THE ZONING BYLAW OF THE ONTARIO BUILDING CODE. THE DESIGN IS INSPIRED BY MODERN INDUSTRIAL HOUSE. THERE IS A STRONG AND COHESIVE FEEL TO THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN OF THE HOUSE. THE MATERIALS USED FOR THIS PROJECT WERE CAREFULLY SELECTED TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF THE MATERIALS WOULD BLEND WELL TOGETHER. THE LIGHTING OF THE HOUSE ADDS AN AMERING FEEL TO THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN OF THE HOUSE SO THAT MATERIALS WILL STAND OUT.

THE SITE HAS 55 PARKING SPACES, INCLUDING THE FOUR BARRIER-FREE PARKING SPACES THAT COMPLIY WITH THE ZONING DESTINATION OF CITY OF VAUGHAN BYLAW-188. THERE IS 270 SQ. M. (5%) OF THE SITE THAT WILL BE DEDICATED SOLELY FOR SNOW STORAGE.
