"Flowers will always be magical to me. The more I paint them, the more I want to paint: revealing their hidden secrets, understanding their transient beauty. I love them all – from the sensuous ruffles of the peony to the fragrant, classic charm of roses.
My love of the garden was predestined. My grandfather converted his entire lawned backyard into a productive garden of vegetables and companion flowers to attract the pollinators. I remember walking down a row of towering sunflowers imagining I was Alice in Wonderland.
Flowers always featured inside our home too. Mum arranged them, Ikebana style, combining them with an arching flax leaf, or a starburst like papyrus head. Dad cultivated cactus, and while I didn’t share his passion for the spikes, I looked forward to the nights we would wait until dark to see the Queen of the Night flowers open. It felt like nature was sharing a magical secret meant for the two of us." – Jenny Fusca
