Letter from the Editor

H

ello fellow Key Club members! I hope that the first week of school had gone well for you all! Unfortunately, I could not attend  freshmen orientation, so I wasn't able to advertise for Key Club then, but I was there in spirit! In actuality, the other officers were well off without me and apparently we had a big turn out of students interested in Key! Knowing this information makes me excited to greet and welcome fresh faces and returning members into the club! With the new board and incoming members, my intuition is telling me that this will be a prosperous year of volunteering and change! See you all at the first meeting, don't procrastinate on home work, and take care of yourselves!!

Yours in Service, Jennifer Finley

President's Note Hey members, As the school year now rolls by, we have officially planned our first meeting for the 2018-2019 school year. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 12th in the downstairs LGI. At the meeting, we will hand out membership applications as well as club rep applications, introduce this year’s officer board, and play some ice breakers to get to know each other. We encourage that each former member bring some friends and get them interested in Key Club. We are very very excited to announce that this year, we’ve added a new member to the Key Club family. Along with Mrs.Wilson (former Ms.Wendt), we’ve added a new sponsor for Key Club. Come to the first meeting to meet and get to know her! Hope to see everyone at the first meeting! Email jerseyvillagekeyclub@gmail.com if you have any suggestions on events you would like to volunteer at!

Yours in Service, Arianna Garza & Patrick Tran

Meet the Treasurer Edition:

How would you describe Key Club to new members? Key Club is an organization based on serving our community. It is an international organization that exists worldwide and in many high schools. Volunteering and giving back to our communities is the core principle of what we do.

What were your thoughts before and after your officer interview? Before my officer interview, all I could really think about was how I was going to do an interview in tennis shorts and a dri-fit shirt. Afterwards though, I felt pretty confident in myself. Though, looking back at a point during the interview, I thought to myself, "Why did I say that I wanted a falcon as a spirit animal? Why are you like this?"

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be? Being the perfect son.

Officer!

Nitish Mohan

What's the strangest dream you've ever had? I had a dream where I was in bed and that my little brother was right next to me trying to hit on the wall of our bedroom at 1 o' clock in the morning. Then I woke up to find out that he actually WAS doing that, but outside.

What is one of your favorite memories? My favorite memory in Key was the banquet. It was a lot of fun and I got to see our new officer board for the next year. My favorite memory in general was me becoming a champ in tennis because I had wanted to become a champ for a very long time.

Do you have any bad habits? Getting mad really quickly, or having a short temper and yeah that's just about it.

Substitute

Badges

August 1st, 2018 " During this event I helped to hand out updated badges to new and returning substitute teachers. Since I coincidentally sat at a table with very few names, I wasn't very busy. Thus, most of my time was spent answering questions for anybody near by. At one point, I even had a conservation with one of the subs. All in all, it was a simple and easygoing event to attend. "

August 17th, 2018

" That day at the Houston Food Bank we helped arrange school supplies at the teachers aid center to prepare for a Back to Shop donation center. The purpose of the center is to provide the proper tools and instruments for students of teachers with no funds. In such a limited amount of time it was shocking, but gratifying to see how many items such as pencils, erasers, and binders we had organized. Overall, I felt extremely joyous and accomplished at our work done that day, for many students around the Houston area would now be learning at their fullest potential, due to our volunteer effort."

END OF SUMMER POOL SOCIAL AUGUST 24TH, 2018

" The social started off rather slow with mainly everyone still within their respective groups, but eventually we all warmed up to each other. The booming music, games of sharks and minnows, and pizza bought by Benny Dang (a graduated senior, bless him), led the social's atmosphere to become very vivacious. In the end, the social was a nice way to conclude the summer and mark the beginning of school." - ELIZABETH FINLEY, 11TH

" A social to savor the last moments of freedom and to celebrate the end of a great summer  "

Due to the constant accessibility of indoor plumbing and clean drinking water at our convenience, many of us may forget that not everyone also has these luxuries.

In fact, the shocking reality is, 663 million people on our planet lack access to safe, clean drinking water!

That's why The Thirst Project works toward eliminating shortages of water by building a socially-conscious generation of young people. And by educating students about it and encouraging them to help the clean water cause, we can build real water projects all over the world.

Clean water means: LESS DISEASE, FURTHER EDUCATED STUDENTS, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, and overall a BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE.
