Movie Night on the Course was a Huge Success!

Susie Cavanagh and Caroline Farber meet for the fourth time in five years for the Women's Club Championship.

Caroline Farber Captures Her Third Women's Club Championship

Sunday's Women's Club Championship Result We are blessed to have two of the finest amateur women players in New England right here at Agawam. It is only natural that they will meet in our Women’s Club Championship final for the foreseeable future. This morning they met for the fourth time in five years and like the previous three meetings the golf was great and the match was close. As they have traded titles since this the start of this trend, it was Susie that was defending champion and Caroline looking to reclaim her title last held from 2013-2014. Caroline took an early 2up lead but Susie took the match back to even by the turn. When Caroline holed a ten-footer on the twelve for her fifth birdie of the day, she covered Susie’s third birdie and kept the match at even. Caroline then made a great up-and-down par on the 13th to grab a 1up lead that she held through the 18th for a 1up win and her third Women’s Club Championship. I am very proud to have two great people represent our club throughout the country. I congratulate both of them as they leave us next week for college. I wish them luck in their academics and their college golf aspirations as Caroline enters Bowdoin College as a freshman, and Susie heads off to Oregon State as a junior.

Men’s Club Championship First Round from Sunday Doctor John Parziale eliminated Greg Benik today in the first round of the Men’s Club Championship by a 3&2 margin. Fourteen of the sixteen first round matches are complete with two remaining. Below is the other results before today’s Parziale match.

Agawam Golf Shop Weekly Update and Forecast – Beginning Sunday, August 28th to Monday, September 5th Saturday, August 27, 2016 After a relatively quiet week, Labor Day is just over a week away but the sizzling summer temperatures continue to emphasizebeach season. The greens aerification process went well and the greens are rolling pretty well already. By this coming weekend most of the evidence of the process will be a distant memory. Below is a summary of a light week of results and the forecast for the next week or so of member and outside golf activity. Also included are some photos of Thursday night’s Drive-In-Movie night. More than 50 members and their children took in some mini-golf and then 90 minutes of the Minions. THE AGAWAM GOLF LEADERBOARD Men’s Results The season long match play tournaments continue, and below is a summary of the single and team matches that have been decided in the last few weeks. President’s Cup Oliver Bennett eliminated Peter Brown Sr. to advance to the semi-final round. He will be joined by Max Buerman who won a close 1up match with Winn Major. The upper bracket is 50% complete as Ed Thomsen won a close 1up match with Mike Russell. Ed faces Mike Costello today to determine the lower bracket finalist. FUN MINI-GOLF and DRIVE-IN MOVIE NIGHT This Thursday the family activity for the club will be a kid’s mini-golf followed by a drive in movie next to the putting green. MiniGolf starts around 6:30pm with the movie starting around 8:00pm. Jen will be providing more details in a club-wide email in the next day or so. JUNIOR GOLF The Junior Club Championship has been advancing this past week. Brendan Lacasse has won two matches to advance to the finals. He will meet the winner of the match between Dan Cavanagh and either Jules Ivory or Paul Shannon III who play on Sunday. UPCOMING MEMBER GOLF ACTIVITIES MIXED GOLF On Monday, September 5th (Labor Day) we will run our annual Labor Day Mixed String Tournament. This is a couple’s format with 8:30am shotgun with coffee and donuts before in the golf lounge. The format is Better Ball with each player receiving three feet of string to advance their ball with three times. There are gross and net prizes and the clubhouse will have the annual Labor Day cookout after golf. Email or call the golf shop to be entered. | MENS GOLF There is less than a month before the start of our 2016 Men’s Member-Member Championship. The tournament opens with an optional Long Drive and Putting Championship on Friday, September 16th. The formal tournament begins on Saturday morning, September 17th with an 8:30am shotgun and 18 holes of Chapman Scotch followed by 11 holes of Twosome Scramble. Play resumes Sunday morning with an 8:45am shotgun and the popular Better Ball format. The tournament concludes with a three-hole playoff for the top teams in each flight and one wild card team with the highest point total not winning a flight. All scoring is Net Stableford versus Par. The sign-up sheet has now been posted. Any member needing a partner can email or call the golf shop to be paired with another member. This is a great weekend for newer members to meet the core of Agawam’s golf community. WOMENS GOLF The Ladies of the Links weekly will pick up with the fall LOTL campaign on Thursday, September 1st. But before doing so, we will be holding the annual LOTL Putting Party on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. The putting begins at5pm with cocktails no later than 6pm. This is always one of the more fun LOTL activities. You can email, call or sign-up in person outside the golf shop. OUTSIDE GOLF EVENTS This coming week we have a quiet outside event schedule with only a small 20 player group on Thursday afternoon. Please refer to the list below that outlines the next ten days of outside activity and member events. Email or call the golf shop if any of these dates are a conflict for you with a previously planned golf round to be played at Agawam. I may be able to work with you on some options to accommodate your golf plans.
