We are back and excited to launch our Jeneration Network Magazine, DENVER EDITION and thrilled to be working with such wonderful clients again! Moving on from the pause of the pandemic, life is different now. It's been a time for change, regeneration and reflection. For many, life has been tragic and the burdens heavy. We do not forget, we move on with faith and hope, love and compassion... if not, we should be. I look forward to life without masks and enjoying the company of others without mandates. I am also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue to create, inspire and share beauty. We appreciate all of our advertisers and contributors. I look forward to many more publications! We sat down with Denver Colorado based visual artist, Julie Anna Lewis. Her unique paintings embrace other artistic expressions such as music, literature & theatre and has been labeled as “contemporary painting, collage, mixed media and op art (optical art), that is classical in theme”. You use words and music in your art that appears as though it’s contoured on the person’s skin. How did you come up with that?
Juliet
40”x30” mixed media on canvas
I developed the idea of contouring words (and later music) into art when I assisted in a mixed-collage project with my oldest daughter Vanessa, 20+ years ago when she was 10. We used some text that I had made to look curved on the computer and printed it out on the paper. When we assembled the piece of art in which the subject was Madonna and Christ Child, the curve of the text unintentionally fit down the virgin’s cheek and nose. I had often contemplated over the years, “Is there a way that I can make a lot of text look like it’s flowing over the person’s entire face?” I spent a few years exploring, testing and researching how I might be able to make that work. I even tried 3-dimensional software which had unpleasant, unrealistic results. I eventually discovered a method that made it look as though the words were going further away or around the curve of the head or came in closer on the round of the cheek and the tip of the nose. It’s an optical illusion really. Is any other visual artist doing this type of art?
Photo by Richard Hamilton, model Courtney Taylor
No, not for the 10 years I’ve been doing it. I am the only one and I consider it my biggest accomplishment as an artist. When I finish a piece, I officially register each one with the US copyright office. The closest I’ve seen someone come to my style of art is when photographers project words or images on their model’s skin. It is visually similar, yet my art is very complex in comparison.
How did your art go from the canvas to silk scarves? It was all very unexpected. My art captured the attention of the Santa Fe Opera. They made a suggestion to print my art on silk scarves as commemorative souvenirs for their 2018 Madame Butterfly production they sold out of in their boutique. The design was a luxurious 72”x20” silk wrap of butterflies I made of music sheets on a black background. From there the Met Opera in New York asked for an exclusive silk wrap design for their ongoing La Boheme productions. I have continued with this creative branch to my art with now over 10 different silk scarf designs that I sell in the United States and Italy. It has been a fun side-adventure!

Where do find your models? Mainly I use the female form in my works. Initially, my 3 grown daughters were used in my art because they were available and willing. And then their friends and some of my nieces. Yet now I use professional models. Courtney Stahl being a favorite! She is such a unique beauty and delightful to work with. Jennifer Costello from Jeneration Network has been especially helpful with coordinating photoshoots, styling and photographers for my needs.
Who are some of your favorite authors and composers? There are so many! Mozart, Edgar Allan Poe, Puccini, Jane Austen, Vivaldi, Charlotte Perkins Browning, Bizet, Emily Dickenson, Beethoven, Abraham Lincoln and on and on! It would be impossible for me to name them all.
Do you do commissions? I do both my art and scarves, but it must fit my art style. Regarding my art; I can provide abstract or figurative commissions in the subject, color palette and dimensions of my collector’s choosing. Depending on my schedule, I can usually complete a commission within a month or so. Many commissions from my collectors have been centered by their wedding song music sheet which made a meaningful wedding or anniversary gift. Custom scarf designs take longer but I am happy to be hired for those too.

FIREPLACE
When your fireplace doesn't ignite, it can be costly just to get it looked at. Before and after winter care is important for your fireplace's longevity.
CLEANING CARE Before spending hundreds of dollars, vacuum and wipe all surfaces of the fireplace. Take a picture of the logs. Soak the coals in mild soap, rinse and dry. After dust and dirt is removed, return the coals and logs (refer to the picture) to their original position.
DRAIN THE GAS LINE Always make sure the gas line is cleared of air before lighting. Refer to manual .
GETTING TO KNOW OUR CLIENTS Author Jesseca Newton
“I loved him from the minute I saw him,” smiles well-known Colorado real estate agent, Monica Hernandez. Married for nearly 23 years, Monica and Daniel make quite a team. They’ve weathered life’s storms, supported each other through extraordinary health challenges, and continue to overcome obstacles with positivity and courage. Together they founded Team Hernandez Real Estate in 2005. Surely a worldwide pandemic during their 19th year of serving the housing needs of their friends and neighbors didn’t appear on their mental horizon at that time. However, Monica maintains a sense of peace and confidence in times of trial, and the unexpectedness of 2020 is merely another blip on her list. Growing up in different states and without wealth, food and resource scarcity colored the early part of Monica and Daniel’s lives. As a result, they learned the value of hard work and taking care of themselves, long before they ever met. Both became parents at a young age and understand the complexities of fractured family relationships. Although reconciliation from some deep hurts took nearly two decades, Monica is incredibly thankful for the people in her life today. Some of those special people include Daniel’s son and his family and Monica’s four grown children and their families. Counting noses, the Hernandez's claim a total of 11 grandchildren to love. “All of my kids live nearby,” Monica shares happily about her Colorado crew. “I’m very close to them.” This closeness in both proximity and relationship makes special occasions, holidays, and get-togethers that much more fun. These two know from experience how precious time is and celebrate the good things in life as often as possible. Looking back, Monica recognizes sometimes, the good things seemed few and far between.
THESE TWO KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE HOW PRECIOUS TIME IS... In 2011, Daniel, a big, strong man who worked very physically demanding jobs throughout his career, noticed increasing pain in his spine. When the forward momentum of the housing market dissipated into thin air, the Hernandezes found themselves in a housing crisis just like many of their clients. Relocating to a new home, Daniel’s discomfort during the move became unbearable. One frightening day, with a rising temperature and discoloration in both of his legs, Monica called an ambulance which rushed Daniel to the hospital. Less than 24 hours later, after an intense surgery, Monica and Daniel heard the terrible news, “Paralyzed for life.” With their world reeling, they learned that a disc in Daniel’s spine bulged dangerously, pinching off and deadening the nerve endings throughout his lower body. By the time doctors operated, it was too late. Or was it? Astonishingly, less than two weeks later, while in a rehabilitation facility, Daniel felt his quad muscle twitch. Slowly, but surely, almost miraculously, his nerves began to heal. The subsequent years were incredibly physically demanding for Monica, as she became her husband’s primary caretaker. Feeding, dressing, bathing, managing medications and appointments, these things and more showed the depth of Monica’s love for Daniel. And would you believe she simultaneously continued to run their top-ofthe-line real estate business? A business, by the way, which she loves—and that makes all the difference. I love real estate, I absolutely adore it! I can do everything from home, so I can be with my family,” Monica shares enthusiastically (adding “everything” with the exception of home showings, which she also loves, and paperwork, which maybe she doesn’t love as much). “I’ve been very blessed that our clients love us, refer others to us, and come back to us. They are a true, true blessing.
Life
is us o i c e Pr
Photographer Jaynie Harrison
”Moving ahead to the year 2014, Daniel scheduled the next of many intricate surgeries to help stabilize his spine. Hoping to help, his family decided to fly in to assist during the recovery process. Monica set out to gather them at the airport as a classic Colorado snowstorm moved across the radar. On the way home, amidst the slippery weather conditions, Monica’s car spun out of control across an overpass. Although no one was seriously injured in the crash, Monica almost immediately noticed increasing, unexplainable lower abdominal pain. Still bruised from the accident, she began consulting specialists, none of whom seemed to have an answer for her. Finally, a general surgeon agreed to perform an exploratory surgery, after a mass was seen in an ultrasound, in hopes of getting some solid answers about Monica’s health. What he discovered was a grapefruit-sized cancerous growth, an aggressive sarcoma already at stage III. Again with emotions reeling, Monica processed the fact that she had cancer, a disease which took her mother’s life all too quickly, just a few years before.
THESE TWO JUST DONT GIVE UP What happens when life throws all these challenges in front of two hard-working, neverquit people? Well, Monica began chemotherapy. She loved her family, looked after her business, and served her clients. The Hernandezes planted a garden in their backyard. They now grow their own food, eat fresh eggs, and take special care of their health. Monica stays active, knowing exercise is not only good for the body, but it is good for mental health, emotional health, outlook and perspective. And the result? Monica made it four years into remission—at year five, a new growth was found. After surgical removal, the doctors plan to watch Monica’s health diligently and will look to new trials for treatment. As for Daniel, he stands, walks, and even helps mow the yard with the support of ankle-to-knee leg braces. These two just don’t give up! “We are positive people. We have been through some things, hard things that not everyone experiences. But, we try to end up with a smile on our faces, praising God.”
There’s one more special piece to this story—a wonderful little girl named Ava. When Monica’s youngest daughter gave birth to her first child, seven years ago, doctors diagnosed Ava with Down syndrome. Having grown up with a sister who had special needs, we knew there would be challenges ahead for her daughter, granddaughter, and Ava’s dad.
“These things could be true setbacks,” Monica points out. “It’s hard. They’re not the normal little things. This is life and death, paralysis and cancer, Down syndrome. We understand when someone is having a hard day. Been there, Are there, We get it.”
Monica admits she’s a shy person, and that surprises people who mostly notice her warm, sunny personality. Perhaps the true reason clients feel welcome and comfortable in Monica’s presence is that she can relate to so many people, so many difficult life circumstances, and so many real situations. “Life isn’t easy for anybody, but life is good,” Monica insists. “We try to stay positive, knowing our days are full of challenges and meeting them.” While some might sink under the weight of these pressures, Monica’s perspective is different. Drawing from the abundance of challenging life situations she’s experienced, Monica likes to look at problems and find creative solutions. In the past five years, Team Hernandez Real Estate received five five-star real estate awards. They’ve helped home seekers and home sellers connect and disconnect from properties at just the right time. Guiding grieving families through the probate process and its frequent complications is another specialty service they offer. Pouring into the community while investing in Colorado’s long-term success, means a lot to Team Hernandez. So, it’s no surprise that in every aspect of life and real estate, they say their goal is to encourage, support, love, and understand. “We praise God every day; we are thankful to be alive. We thank God for the life we live.”

Q&A L
eenda Nicole is the founder and CEO of CatheXis, a national modeling and talent agency with corporate offices located in Downtown Denver. CatheXis Talent is quickly becoming one of the top Modeling agencies in North America. 1. What made you decide to own and operate a Talent Agency? Modeling on the side throughout college gave me a big variety of unique experiences. It began with booking models for friends as favors and quickly started taking up a lot of my time. I never considered starting an agency until I was reading a book called ‘The Road Less Traveled’. When I was reading about ‘CatheXis’ it all came to me at once. The name, the vision, the business idea. I think sometimes when your heart is in the right place destiny finds you. 2. CatheXis is a great name, how did you decide on the name “CatheXis”? I decided to name the agency CatheXis. Because of my love for poetry, semantics & mental lexicons. CatheXis is the investment of energy in a person, object or idea. We focus on the transmutation of emotional frustrations through definitely planned work. I am an action person and like to empower people to get what they want out of life no matter what hand they are dealt. I always say “The Struggle Is The Way”. The X is for Malcolm, X the venerable human rights activist. In this industry I filter out human trafficking ‘gigs’ almost daily. It’s really important to me to keep my Talent safe, especially kind hearted people who are often targeted by predators. The big Red X is also a symbol used in solidarity against human trafficking. There are more people entrapped by slavery today than at any other point in human history.
“GrOw, Mentor, Thrive” 3. What would you say is one of your strengths as a business owner? My strength as a business owner is my resilience, being neurodiverse, the ability to collect “no’s” and sacrificing what I want today for what I want tomorrow. It’s an all-ornothing attitude for sure. If everyone who ever had something like; let’s say ‘an eating disorder’, took that kind of neurotic dedication and put it into something productive that served society, like a bonafide career goal, they would go very far. That my friends is the transmutation of emotional frustrations through definitely planned work - in action. 4. Since owning your business, what passions have you been able to focus on? Now, I focus on helping others cultivate their passions in a way that cuts learning curves to be efficient with their time. I’ve been getting into films and the production side of things lately along with other philanthropic endeavors. A big passion is yoga, one thing I've always made time for. I think we all need some kind of physical hobbies or practice to stay sane. 5. Leenda, tell us about your volunteer work? We provide opportunities for our Talent to work and volunteer through things like social events & enrichment programs that serve underprivileged youth in our inner cities. I am a huge believer in social responsibility so we encourage everyone to volunteer in a way that serves their community and is personal to them. 6. Do you have a motto for Cathexis? We do, “GrOw, Mentor, Thrive”.
7. What does it take to join your agency? Tenacity. We look for people with drive who are selfmotivated. It doesn't matter where you come from as much as where you are going, and how much effort you are willing to put in to get there. We also look for people that genuinely care about other people, hence the volunteer work; people that support their teammates in real life and on social media. When anyone wins, we all win. 8. Can people really make a living being a model? Absolutely! Most of our talents have a variety of skill-sets. Our big stuff requires more than a pretty face, you need people skills, professional headshots, a slate, a reel and a portfolio of stuff you have done, before you can get paid work. Experience is a must, you have to get out there and take some low paying gigs before we will put you with a big client so that we know you are reliable and professional. Letters of recommendation help too. I have had Talent make over $6k in a day. It’s easy to make a living but you have to do the auditions, collecting your ‘no’s and keep facing rejection every day to get yourself out there.
JD Gonzales- "Working with Leenda was truly a great experience. We at Pendulum Productions LLC were casting for a corporate video that required teleprompter ready actors, and Leenda was able to provide a casting space and filled the hours with casting options. We ended up casting Nicole Conklin, a very talented and professional actor who made our shoot incredibly simple.”
Q&A 9. Where do potential Clients go to book talent with CatheXis? Just go to the website and book your talent with CatheXis online at www.cathexistalent.com it’s that easy! We do everything from Actors for commercials and feature films, to print models, promotional talent, extras, dancers, special performers & celebrity guests. You can also search for talent by specific attributes that are relevant to your commercial shoot, such as; athletic ability, height, experience, age, hair color etc.
We looked at all the great comments people are saying about Cathexis online and it’s fabulous. Clients highly recommend CatheXis!
Austin Logan- "We needed talent on short notice. CatheXis delivered, the talent was professional, and the price was reasonable."
Guillaume Moncenis-Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value "I worked with CatheXis Talent for a swimwear photoshoot. It was a last minute request, and they responded very quickly and were able to organize it for the next day. They are very professional and did a high quality work, they were also able to provide me with the pictures very quickly, and offered fantastic customer service. I will definitely use them in the future and I highly recommend them."
