"From the get-go, I have had a love for art"
My name is Alyssa, owner and founder of Alyssa Marie Gallery alongside my husband, Braden Everly. I am from Littleton, Colorado originally and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in Feb 2017 which is where I currently take residence among the waves and endless greenery. From the get-go, I have had a love for art that I have a difficult time finding words to explain.
Growing up, my parents beautiful kitchen table was covered in scratches and dents from art projects, residue from hot glue and of course, every color of paint I could get my hands on. As I grew, my love for art cultivated as I went on to pursue my BFA in Communication Design with an emphasis on Fine Art at Metropolitan University of Denver, Colorado. Not too long after graduation, Braden and I decided we were due for an adventure so we packed up our two dogs, parrot and chameleon and made the big move to St. Petersburg, Florida!
"I have had a tremendous pull toward the wondrous ocean" I quickly found that color was my passion and as I continue to paint, I explore new meshes of style and technique to constantly push my paintings further with every stroke. I remember one day in 2nd grade, I got in trouble by the teacher in class for doodling palm trees all over my notebook. The funny thing is, I had never been to the ocean to see them in person!

Needless to say, I have had a tremendous pull toward the wondrous ocean and all things nautical for as long as I can remember, which is what made my move to Florida that much sweeter... (or saltier?)You will find quite the mix when it comes to my website, abstract pieces to touches of the beautiful Colorado landscape and of course my favorite subject matter - anything nautical including sea birds and ocean waves.

She uses music sheets and pages of classical literature in her pieces, but that’s not what’s new. Q. 1. What was your career defining moment?
For many years I was an EMT, trying to be a single mother, but the hours and job life were too demanding. This was my defining moment, I want something else. I decided to go back to school and get my cosmetology license. Shortly after I graduated, I started my career immediately. I had a passion for color, high fashion stuff, photos hoots and weddings. I was chosen to be one of the stylists for Denver Fashion Week. The opportunity with Denver Fashion Week led to me to go to Mexico with the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders as a stylist for their calendar shoot. It was exciting and definitely a game changer.

Q. 2.What do you love most about your profession?
In the beauty and fashion world, I’ve done hair and makeup for a lot of weddings, engagement photos, prom, and more. What I found is, I love to make people feel beautiful in their own skin. When my clients smile, I smile.
Tell us about your Profession
"I dream to have Captivated Looks for Hope In every state or in major Hospitals for Oncology" Q 3. What is the most inspirational thing that you have learned over the past year?
While I was working on getting my salon, Captivated Looks, my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was then that I realized, there weren't enough places for cancer patients to go for their beauty needs. A place for them to mourn the loss of their hair without having to watch others fall in love with their new color, cut, extensions, and so forth.I opened up Captivated Looks for Hope, and I offer the first cut/shave on the house. I am there for them during this journey in their lives, whether it is for a cut, wash, scalp treatment, or just to simply talk. I have recently got my certification in micro-blading, and I am able to give these amazing people their eyebrows back if the chemo takes them away for good. Q 4. What example do you set for others while pursuing your passion?
My dream is to one day have my salons known around the country. I dream to have Captivated Looks for Hope In every state or in major Hospitals for Oncology. I want my girls to see their mom not only make it as a business owner but also to teach them "to be go getters and have compassion for others".

Q 5. How has your profession evolved?
It has not been a smooth road for me. Starting a business is hard. Six months after I graduated from beauty school, I was heading to do hair and makeup for a wedding. My ex-partner and I were a block away from the venue when a lady ran a red light, t-boning us and hitting my door at 50 mph. My life changed that day. Since that accident in October of 2017, I have endured ten surgeries, 16 injections, and countless hours in physical therapy. I have a new back, pretty much new jaw, completely reconstructed chest, and fixed up the knee. While I was going through these horrific surgeries, I was still building my salons. I would even take clients a couple of days after a surgery. I work 13 hours for Denver Fashion Week the day after my second spinal surgery. I have always had a positive outlook on life and my dreams for my salons pushed me to heal and do what needed to be done. Sometimes I get frustrated because I feel the salon should be further along and I’m failing, but I remind myself that I survived something I shouldn’t have and that the salons are still growing and they’ve grown a lot since I first started. Q 6. What is your Motto?
"Keep pushing". Put the work in now and don't doubt yourself. "go for your dreams", no matter how unrealistic or hard they seem.

Q 7. What sets your salon apart?
I have certifications in Cut. Color, Waxing and Makeup. I specialize in creating updos and makeup for special occasions or everyday wear, color correction, vivid colors and styles that can be worn every day. I am also certified in permanent makeup and can give you that wake-up and go look. I am proud of my salon for cancer patients. I want them to know, I am here during this phase in their life and even after when their hair is coming back with all the awkward stages. What sets me apart is that I am able to take my empathy, compassion, and patient care from being an EMT into what I am and that has helped me become a better person, mom, business owner, stylist and friend. My advice for young women starting out would be:
Write out your plan to make those dreams come true. You will have rough times and feel like you aren’t going to make it, but pushing through that will not only make you a better person but a better business owner. Fight for your dreams. Take constructive criticism and learn from it. Surround yourself with people who have the same mindset and are making their dreams a reality.

Artist Ruben Chato was a nominee for “San Diego’s Veteran of the Year 2018-19”, by San Diego Veterans and Homeland Magazine, and was also selected as the 2018 California State Capital Native American Day Artist.

Chato”, was born Ruben Chato Hinojosa Jr. He is an enrolled Tribal member of Lipan Apache Tribe Texas #1691 the Tcha”shka o’zahaye (Little Breech-Clout People), are Southern Athabaskan (Apachean). There traditional territory includes presentdayTexas, New Mexico, and Colorado as well as at the Mescalero Reservation. He began creating art early on in his life when he was as a child and is celebrated for his Sculptures, Eagles, Wildlife, Pets and Military Fine Art. Artist Ruben Chato’s majors are Fine Art, Honors Art History, Honors World Music and Foreign language. He attended both Golden West College and Mesa College in California during and after his Honorable military service. He was also the recipient of the prestigious Rosa Parks Music Scholarship in 2001 (American Indian Flutes).
Most recently Ruben was selected to display his art at the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Arts, for Veteran’s Day 2019. In addition to his United States Navy career and as an artist, he has concurrently worked in film and television as a SAG-AFTRA actor since 2001. The Official Awards Artist at the San Diego International Film Festival Awards Sculpture Artist 2013 - 2019. He is an advocate for Veterans and people with disabilities as well as the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (Survivor 2012). Art is an instrument of healing! He served honorably in the United States Navy for almost 10 years in various duties and traveling to over 18 countries. Having served proudly during wartime and peacetime amid experiences in the Naval Amphibious Fleet Task Force, Boat House LPO, Special Warfare community with SBU/SWCC “The Boat Guys”, in addition to Bud/s SEAL training class 207, a non-graduate medical. This Naval adventure encompassed with other military branches has been an educational experience of a lifetime that has engraved a military bond of brotherhood which is irreplaceable. This is one of his quotes for our universe, “Be a peaceful warrior in the path of life, but be a fierce warrior in the path of fight”, and his grandfather Neto was the inspiration for that. When Ruben joined the U.S Navy his grandfather Neto said to him, “Remember that you will be living proof that I existed”! They were the last words they both ever spoke.

I decided to start reading books online for kids all around the world. With everything that is going on in the world, I wanted to brighten someone’s day. I love to read to my baby cousins and the reactions on their faces when reading them books brightens my day. I love reading adventure books.
